Manchester United vs Everton - 4-0, Premier League, 17.09.2017

Man United vs Everton Premier League 17.09.2017 Old Trafford FT 4-0 Yet another amazing late three goal bonanza has seen Manchester United position themselves alongside bitter rivals City at the head of the Premiership. Both sides have scored 16 goals conceded two and have 13 points from five games. And, as many have predicted, a battle royal to see who lifts the ultimate prize next May is well underway. The Reds couldn't have asked for a better start with Antonio Valencia half-volleying a Nemanja Matic crossfield ball high into the net past a despairing Pickford in the Everton goal with such force it reminded you of Sir Bobby Charlton in his heyday. Romelu Lukaku missed a glorious opportunity to double the lead when he prodded wide from close range but by then that man Wayne Rooney on his return to the stage of so many of his triumphs had lifted the Merseysiders with some superb distribution and had even come close to a dream equaliser as well. Shortly after half-time, he came even closer but the magnificent David de Gea came to the rescue and United were suddenly under pressure as the momentum appeared to swing against them. A worried Jose Mourinho began to ring the changes with Jesse Lingard introduced at the expense of the ineffectual Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial replaced Juan Mata. The warm applause that greeted the departure of Rooney was immediately followed by the opening of the floodgates. A glaring defensive error by Williams, allowed Lukaku to set up Henryk Mkhitaryan for the second and as the game approached its final moments Lukaku finally got his goal after the ball arrived at his feet following a deflection. There was even time for Martial to calmly slot home his third goal of the season from the penalty spot after a handball by Schneiderlin allowing the Reds to share pole position in what could turn out to be a two-horse race with all other rivals dropping points this weekend.
