NYCFC's MLS Cup debut got off to a slow start as they failed to create a shot in the first 37 minutes against Atlanta United. However, they looked the better side from the beginning, picking up momentum leading into the first half's end and carrying it into the second, where they scored two to earn the win at Yankee Stadium. Taty Castellanos deposited the first, Alex Callens dropped in a rebound for the second and Sean Johnson kept a clean sheet with some big saves late to lift NYCFC to victory and book them a ticket against the top-seeded New England Revolution in the Eastern Conference Finals.
