Game Recap: Penguins vs. Bruins (03.16.21) | A Tough Game
This game started with David Pastrnak scoring a power-play goal for the Bruins, only 3:20 into the opening period. Brandon Tanev answered back later in the period, just getting a puck past the outstretched leg of Bruins goaltender Dan Vladar, who made his NHL debut. During the 2nd period, Brandon Tanev was assessed a major penalty for Boarding and a Game Misconduct. The Penguins proceeded to kill the five-minute man-advantage for Boston. Midway through the 3rd period, Trent Frederic got another puck past Casey DeSmith, and that would be all the lead the Bruins would need in this one. DeSmith stopped 31 of 33 for Pittsburgh. Game Recap: Penguins vs. Flyers (03.04.21) | Three Goals in 71 Seconds
Prior to the drop of the puck, the Penguins had great news: captain Sidney Crosby was activated from the COVID Protocol Related Absence list and would participate in the game. The Penguins started this game really, really hot. Kris Letang, Mark Friedman, and Jared McCann all scored to put Pittsburgh up, 3-0, all within 71 seconds of each other. These three goals within 1:11 are the fastest three goals by any team thus far this season, and are the Penguins’ fastest three tallies in a game since March 8, 2017 (0:57 at WPG). Mark Friedman’s goal was his first in the NHL. Originally drafted by Philadelphia in 2014, Friedman became the 10th player since 2009.10 to score his first career goal against the team that drafted him. The Flyers would begin to creep back into the game during the 2nd period, but the completed comeback would occur in the 3rd period. Zach Aston-Reese finally returned to the lineup and scored a nice goal in his 14:12 of ice time. Bryan Rust shone again against the Islanders, notching 1G-1A—2 pts. Evgeni Malkin ripped home a one-timer to tie the game at 3-3 with only 18 seconds remaining. Sidney Crosby scored the lone goal in the shootout. This game against the Rangers was probably P.O Joseph's best game in the NHL yet. The rookie notched three assists, including one on the game-winning goal. Kasperi Kapanen got on the board again after a nice pass from Evgeni Malkin sprung him on a breakaway. Casey DeSmith was in the net for this contest, and turned aside 30 of 34 shots. Bryan Rust scored on a breakaway after a great pass from Sidney Crosby. Jared McCann proved that no shot is a bad shot, scoring a pretty one from the boards. Jake Guentzel notched his 100th career goal. Tristan Jarry stopped 24 of 26 shots. All things considered, things worked out pretty well!
