After falling to Philadelphia just one night ago, 7-2, the Penguins went into this contest looking to get back to winning hockey. Marcus Pettersson got things started with a beautiful move less than two minutes into the game, and the Penguins wouldn't look back. Jake Guentzel slid the puck in next on the power play, and Sidney Crosby got on the board for the first time this game after that. The Flyers cut it to 3-2, but Kasperi Kapanen made a great play to lift the stick of a Philadelphia player, which enabled Evgeni Malkin to snatch the puck and feed it low to Jason Zucker, who was alone in front of the net, who managed to turn the puck around and roof it. Konecny scored for the Flyers to pull them within 1 again, but Sidney Crosby got a feed from Bryan Rust, dropped to one knee, and rocketed a shot opposite side, top shelf. Mark Friedman tallied with an empty net, but drew a penalty after the goal, putting the Penguins back on the power play. John Marino scored from a similar spot as Crosby's second tally of the game, and that would be it for the Penguins' goal-scoring parade. Tristan Jarry stopped 30 of 33 shots. The Penguins had a pleasant surprise for tonight's game: Kasperi Kapanen returned to the lineup. Sidney Crosby got the crowd on their feet just 41 seconds into the game, putting the Penguins up 1-0. New Jersey answered midway through the 1st period, but Cody Ceci's shot found twine to give the Penguins a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission. Bryan Rust got on the board with his 19th of the year in the 2nd period, and the returning Kasperi Kapanen notched one 25 seconds after Rust. Teddy Blueger scored a short-handed marker, his third of the season, and the Penguins went into the final period with a 5-1 lead. After a difficult 3rd period last game, the Penguins made no mistake about it this time around: the Devils didn't earn a goal in the final frame. Tristan Jarry stopped 30 of 31 shots on goal. Bryan Rust scored on a breakaway after a great pass from Sidney Crosby. Jared McCann proved that no shot is a bad shot, scoring a pretty one from the boards. Jake Guentzel notched his 100th career goal. Tristan Jarry stopped 24 of 26 shots. All things considered, things worked out pretty well!
