We knew this would happen eventually, and Chris Wilder's Middlesbrough were tactically and physically superior to Forest for 90% of the match. A woeful own goal by Ryan Yates gave the hosts the lead, and they really should have scored three or four before the break. Forest had a good ten minute spell on the hour, but Philip Zinckernagel and Joe Worrall both missed chances to equalise before Andraz Sporar put the game to bed.
After a long wait, the “new normal” seems oddly like the old one, as Forest couldn’t hold on against Sheffield Wednesday. Rich Ferraro is joined by Steven Toplis to review the Reds’ return to action at Hillsborough. Despite a decent performance, and a good goal by Joe Lolley, some familiar problems re-emerged as Forest struggled to hold onto the ball, and couldn’t defend a stoppage-time corner. Key issues include the old chestnut of team selection, and the effects of fatigue and cramp; despite the extra substitutions available to both managers, some players were clearly struggling, including Tobias Figueiredo and Brice Samba. We also discuss the problems with iFollow and new contracts signed by the gaffer, Michael Dawson and Sammy Ameobi. In a specially extended match report, Rich Ferraro and Baz discuss Forest’s excellent and rather pleasing win over Derby County. In a match notable for perspiration, rather than inspiration, Tiago Silva really caught the eye with arguably his best performance yet for the Reds. As so often happens, Lewis Grabban had one chance and took it, the Forest midfield worked their socks off, and Brice Samba kept us solid at the back. There is a small mention too for the referee, who generally did very well, but there is always a talking point or two…
Some Forest fans will blame the ref for this one, but the Reds’ were the architects of their own downfall. Sloppy defending cost us two goals, and Hull’s excellent wingers showed up their red-shirted counterparts. Unfortunately poor team play, a lack of drive and a poor final ball meant that Forest simply did not do enough to threaten Hull, despite the visitors being reduced to ten men.

It probably won’t last long (and no-one won the league in September anyway), but a hard-fought victory away to Stoke City enabled Forest to sit at the top of the league, if only for one night. In this mini match-report, Rich Ferraro comments on relatively quiet performances from a couple of Forest’s big hitters, once again praises Ben Watson, and has some words for the strength of the squad enabling Sabri’s substitutions.

A dominant performance from the Reds after two early goals from Lolley and Grabban, and a wonderful moment as skipper Michael Dawson scored his first Reds goal in fifteen years. In truth, the Reds could have scored twice as many, with Sow, Ameobi and Grabban all guilty of missing when it looked easier to score. Sabri Lamouchi again showed his ability to pick a team for the occasion, and to use his substitutions well. Match report by Steven Toplis. After a gritty, hard-fought but excellent win over our woolly rivals from down the road, Rich Ferraro is joined by Baz, Steven Toplis and the Maradona Of The Midlands to review the match, the tactics and the Reds’ playoff prospects. There are kind words for the manager, the midfield and the massive pair of beasts at centre-half, not forgetting the mammoth contribution from Forza Garibaldi and the Forest supporters.
