Esse Akida was the toast of the country coming of the bench to score the winner as Harambee Starlets came from behind to beat two-time African champions Equatorial Guinea 2-1 in a Africa Women's Cup of Nations second round first leg qualifier. The second leg will be played on Saturday in Malabo with the aggregate winner bagging a ticket to AWCON 2018 in Ghana.

SportPesa Premier League sides Nzoia Sugar and Vihiga United advanced to the round of 32 of this year's SportPesa Shield with huge wins against their opponents from the lower leagues at Moi Stadium in Kisumu. Nzoia beat Dero FC 7-nil while Vihiga thrashed Nyamira AllStars 5-nil. Meanwhile, Division One Side Kisumu Hot Stars also stormed the last 32 after beating Raiply FC 2-1. This as Tusker thrashed Taita Taveta All Stars 7-nil at the Dawson Mwanyumba Stadium in Wundanyi in Saturday's late kick off. The brewers were under the tutelage of assistant coach Charles Okere with Robert Matano indisposed. AFC Leopards are the defending champions of Kenya's domestic cup competition whose winner bags a ticket to represent the country in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Sportpesa Premier League leading goal scorer Elvis Rupia of Nzoia Sugar has been named the KPL player of the Month for April by Kenyan sports journalists under their SJAK banner. Rupia, who has 12 league goals in 16 appearances, beat Zoo FC duo of Michael Madoya and Nicholas Kipkurui to scoop the monthly gong. The Nzoia Sugar striker scored four goals in the month of April as did Madoya and Kipkurui but he was picked ahead of the Zoo duo. With the accolade Rupia took home the April gong, a 49 inch LG TV and 100,000 shillings from Sportpesa.

Leaders from Nandi County led by Governor Stephen Sang and Senator Samson Cheralgei have said that they will keep on supporting Deputy President William Ruto’s ambition of becoming the President of Kenya come 2022. Senator Cheralgei said he hoped the hand shake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga was to bring peace and unity in the country and not a calculated move to stop Ruto from becoming the President of Kenya in 2022. They were speaking at Cherondo Primary School in Tinderet Constituency in Nandi County, where they had gone visit the land slide victims.

Reigning Kenyan Premier League Champions Gor Mahia continued with their imperious form as they came from behind to thrash Thika United 5-2 to go top of the league standings. This despite a road accident that claimed several of the Green Army. Meanwhile, Vihiga United secured their second win of the season with victory over Nzoia Sugar as Ulinzi Stars beat Nakumatt in Machakos.

There are five Kenyan Premier League matches lined up this afternoon with the pick of the action being Sofapaka versus Tusker coming to you on NTV from the Machakos Stadium. Other matches will see the Western Derby featuring AFC Leopards and Kakamega Homeboyz at Machakos from 4.15pm, Ulinzi Stars host Posta Rangers, Sony Sugar welcome Mathare United, and Wazito face Nakumatt. On Saturday Coast side Bandari FC beat Vihiga United by a solitary goal to topple AFC Leopards in second place. ELVIS RUPIA scored twice as Nzoia Sugar collected their second victory of the season in a 2-1 win over Zoo Kericho to move to 12th on six points while Zoo go bottom on four points. Elsewhere, Kariobangi Sharks beat hosts Thika United 1-0 to take Sharks fourth while Thika drop to 16th.
