"IT WAS GOALTENDING" Those words were Kelvin Sampson's response to the first question of Saturday night's postgame press conference about the final play in Houston's 83-82 road loss at Alabama. Coach Sampson adds more comments about the play; and, he also comments on two good teams competed in the game. Coach discusses J'Wan Roberts 9 offensive rebounds and refuses to dwell on J'Wan's misses at the free throw line because J'Wan didn't miss them on purpose and J'Wan and his teammates work on free throws every practice. The amount of fouls called on Houston disrupted Houston's ability to be physical on defense -- especially in the first half when Alabama shot 17 for 20 from the line. Bama was 7 for 11 from the line in the 2nd half. Alabama made 26 of 50 fgs and 24 of 31 fts. Marcus Sasser scored a game-high 25 points (8 for 25 fgs - 4 for 14 threes) to lead Houston. Coach Sampson also discusses the family atmosphere of the UH basketball program as well as receiving text messages from former players throughout his coaching career -- going back to his days as head coach at Montana Tech in 1982. Tramon mentions his left shoulder is healing; and, he mentions he's making steady progress on the court returning his game to pre-injury.
