Brave beat Phoenix to win men's Hundred
Brave beat Phoenix to win men's Hundred

The Hundred Southern Brave beat Birmingham Phoenix to win men's title. Southern Brave were crowned the first men's Hundred champions after beating Birmingham Phoenix by 32 runs in an action-packed Lord's final. Chasing 169, Phoenix's Liam Livingstone thrashed 46 from 19 balls, animating a raucous Lord's crowd with an effortless flow of boundaries, before the game swung in dramatic and unlikely fashion. Tim David, only brought into the Brave's squad earlier this week, ran out Livingstone with a 60m direct hit from the deep - the in-form Livingstone agonisingly inches short. Birmingham still needed another 99 from 55 balls and Brave's impressive bowling attack closed out the game expertly to make the winning margin far greater than looked likely at one stage. Teacher-turned-Hundred star Jake Lintott had Moeen Ali caught for 36 from 30 balls. Ireland international Paul Stirling earlier hit 61 from 36 balls for the Brave before Ross Whiteley's crucial 44 not out from 19 balls lifted them to 168-5. The Oval Invincibles, winners of the women's final earlier in the day, joined the Brave with their trophy at the end of a special day at cricket's historic home. Thirty-three runs looks like a big winning margin, but when Livingstone was flying - the crowd on its feet as he hit sixes at will - Birmingham were ahead of the Brave in their chase. The game turned with a moment of sheer brilliance, however, from the most unlikely Brave hero. David, an all-rounder born in Singapore, who he has played for internationally, only made his debut in Friday's eliminator after coming in as a late replacement for New Zealand international Colin de Grandhomme, who flew home before the final. The big 25-year-old, who earlier took a fine diving catch, swooped on a loose ball after a diving attempt to catch Livingstone had gone down, turned and arrowed a throw directly into the stumps. His Brave team-mates sprinted to meet him in celebration. Livingstone covered his face with his glove, seemingly distraught. "As soon as he [Livingstone] was on his way back, Southern Brave were the champions," said former England captain Michael Vaughan on BBC Two. Source: BBC Sport Please subscribe to my channel. French women beat ROC for handball gold

France beat the Russian Olympic Committee 30-25 in the women's handball gold medal match. France has beaten the Russian Olympic Committee 30-25 for the gold medal in women’s handball. Scores were level at 16-16 midway through the second half before six straight goals for France and a string of saves by goalkeeper Cleopatre Darleux took the game out of the Russians’ reach. France’s Pauletta Foppa and Allison Pineau had seven goals each, and so did Russian player Polina Vedekhina. France also won the men’s tournament in Saturday’s final against Denmark and becomes the first country to win both handball events at the same Olympics since Yugoslavia in 1984. Norway matched its women’s bronze from 2016 with a commanding 36-19 win over Sweden on eight goals each from Nora Mork and Kari Brattset Dale. [Source: AP News] Please subscribe to my channel. GB's French wins modern pentathlon gold
GB's French wins modern pentathlon gold

The 30-year-old should look exhausted as she powers over the line. But she doesn't Think we're all emotionally exhausted. Kate French stormed away from the field with a dominant run in the final event of the modern pentathlon to earn Great Britain's 18th gold of the Tokyo Olympics. The 30-year-old began the laser run - a 3,200-metre run punctuated by four shooting stages - in fifth place but took the lead during the second running section and never looked back. French finished more than 15 seconds ahead of Lithuania's London 2012 champion Laura Asadauskaite, who surged through the field from 13th to take the silver medal. But it was an all-round performance that delivered gold for the Briton after she set a personal best in the 200m freestyle swimming and also starred in equestrian earlier in the day. French's smile is wider than the Seine. She sits on the grass in the Olympic Stadium taking in what she has just achieved. The greatest race of her life Kate French's success also gives Great Britain a boost in the Tokyo 2020 medal table. That's a 18th gold medal for Team GB - lifting them back ahead of Australia and the Russian Olympic Committee - and their 55th podium finish of the Games. When Kate French hits the tournament - she is a superhero. It's difficult as the athletes are constantly having to change and adapt their training with the sport modernising, and that's what Kate has been able to do. She has continued to fight the odds, get stronger, and we knew from the World Cup that she had every chance. You can be strong at all the disciplines but then it is just chance in the show-jumping so can you be the horse-whisperer you need to be? It's where anything can happen. You have to have the ability to calm your horse, even speaking to the horse in the language of the country that they are based "I don't know what to say" a giggling Kate French tells our man Nick Hope in the Tokyo Stadium. The 30-year-old from Bath has a mixture of surprise and sheer delight in her eyes as she reacts to her stunning victory. [Source: BBC Sport] Please subscribe to my channel. Thanks for watching.
