The Giannis Antetokounmpo AIRBALL SITUATION...
The Giannis Antetokounmpo AIRBALL SITUATION...

Having the entire crowd rushing you with a sped up 10 second count can be daunting and can cause more problems on top of the existing ones that Giannis already has at the line. However, despite all the shooting woes, and despite all the criticisms, he’s not too worried about it and even laughs it off. What up everybody, my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. Antetokounmpo shot 68.5% on free throws during the season, which is bad in itself, but throughout the playoffs he’s gone down to 55.1% and a bunch of them have been extremely bad misses as you can see. And the whole thing has turned into a debacle with his 4 and a half minute routine at the foul line, which has now culminated with the Nets and now Hawks fans counting before every single free throw. Now that kind of pressure can be demoralizing and extremely frustrating, but part of the reason why I’m making this video is to show you that Giannis is being incredibly cool about it. During a Bucks shootaround before game 2 he was the star of the show making the whole team laugh about his famous free throw line struggles. And honestly, I love the attitude. Take a look. Again, you cannot hate on this. The fact that he takes all of it in stride and has fun with it, plus his accent makes this entire monologue that much funnier. This is one area where the greek freak is a lot different than Ben Simmons. He doesn’t shy away from shooting the ball. Even from outside. And although he’s being criticized for it, Antetokounmpo is adamant that he needs to stay aggressive and try to make a good decision every single possession. Sometimes, as strange as it sounds, the right decision is shooting the three. Anyway, a big reason for why Milwaukee won game 3 is the fact that they do have a good shooter on the team. Did I say good? I meant deadly, lethal. Khris Middleton was so hot that he actually outscored the entire Atlanta Hawks in the 4th quarter. 20-17. Talk about being blazing hot. Look at some of these. This is straight up video game mode. He ended up with 38, 11 and 7 on 58% shooting. A clutch performance by Khris. I found it interesting how deep Giannis got in his postgame interview, talking about his teammate. Check out what he said. So yeah, Milwaukee pulled it off and won a tough game 3, and now have a chance for a commanding 3-1 lead in the series. I feel like the teams know each other well and everything is exposed, so now it all comes down to execution and making shots. And although that’s a big topic of discussion with Giannis, you see that he’s not feeling any pressure, and Bucks fans have to love that winning attitude. That’s it for now, subscribe and talk to you in the next one. Peace out.

THIS IS WHAT Happened To Devin Booker!!
THIS IS WHAT Happened To Devin Booker!!

As the Clippers won game 3, they were able to limit Devin Booker to just 15 points. There’s a reason why he shot just 5 for 16 in game 2 and 5 for 21 in game 3. And it sure coincides with Patrick Beverley’s increased minutes and defense on Book. Let me show you how Pat Bev is making life difficult right now for the Suns superstar. What up everybody my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. Right off the bat, check out this statistic: When Beverley is on the floor this series, Booker is shooting 10/32 which is a horrific 31.3% from the field. He also has 10 turnovers and is -12. I mean, who wouldn’t be when you have a pitbull like this hounding you on every inch of the court. Although Russell Westbrook had that famous comment saying: I completely disagree and you can really see it with your very eyes how much of an impact he has defensively. Look at these 2 shots for example: They both rimmed out and he could have made them of course, but as a defender the most you can do is fight over the screens, try to contest, and try to make things as difficult as possible for an otherwise elite scorer. But then look at this chasedown, staying attached, going around the Ayton screen, and ultimately swiping the ball on the shot. And check out this beautiful angle, the front row seats that we have on this phenomenal play. When you have a guy chasing you like this all over the court, it just makes things uncomfortable and gets you off your flow. You constantly need to think about the fact that he’s right there, he’s pesky, and might snatch the ball away at any moment. And when you have more things to think about and be careful off, the possibility of missing a shot goes up. Even the possessions that were ultimately called a foul, like this right here. Book is now aware that he might got the call this time, but Beverley was right there. And of course not to mention the fact that he’s all up in your face at times excessively, as Devin himself found that out the hard way, on this collision that resulted in 3 stitches and a broken nose, so he’ll likely play out the rest of the playoffs with a mask on. Anyway Ty Lue had high praise for Beverley in the postgame interview. TY LUE INTERVIEW Speaking of the job against Donovan Mitchell, look at this frightening sequence, my goodness, he’s all over him. Incredible. And the passionate reaction afterwards of course. So yeah, Pat Bev also made his presence felt in the last series as well. He was bothering not only Mitchell but all of the Jazz perimeter players with his defense and also forced a bunch of tough shots and turnovers. Getting a must win in game 3, you could definitely see the celebration, and the excitement on the faces of the Clippers. Even Kawhi was beyond exhilarated watching from the stands. Yeah extremely emotional whatever... But look at Pat, keeping that same intensity even after he was subbed out with the game already decided. Maaan, say what you want about him but I always want a guy on my team that I know will always play all out 100% each and every possession. That’s all I would ask for. In fact that’s all that any coach wants from his players. And this is exactly why he’s been one of my favorite players to watch. That’s it for now, subscribe and talk to you in the next one. Peace out.

He Was THE WORST NBA PLAYER...But Then...
He Was THE WORST NBA PLAYER...But Then...

How do you go from possibly the worst player in the NBA to being a valuable piece on a championship level team? The incredible comeback story of Cameron Payne is unlike any other, and deserves an in depth look. So let’s go from the very beginning all the way to last night when he scored 29 points in the conference finals. What up everybody, my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. Cameron Payne Sophomore Year: 20.2 PPG / 6.0 APG After a strong sophomore year at Murray State, averaging 20 points and 6 assists per game, Payne entered the NBA draft and analysts compared him to Damian Lillard, predicting a bright future for him. The fact that he was selected pretty high at number 14 confirmed all of that. So he was headed to the Oklahoma City Thunder. That rookie year in 2016 OKC were making a big push in the playoffs so watching and kind of rooting for them, I caught a few highlights of Payne as well. Or I should say lowlights. I distinctly remember watching Cameron struggle under the pressure. Even in the limited 4-5 minutes per game that he would get while Westbrook was getting a breather on the bench, Payne would always make his presence felt by having multiple turnovers, or missing open shots. If you take a look at some of the boxscores during that postseason, you would see lines like these: 4 minutes, zeros across the board and 2 turnovers. 7 minutes, 2 of 7 from the field and 2 turnovers of course. And this one from game 4 against golden state: 1:58, 0 for 1 and 1 turnover. Now that’s what I call making your presence felt. In less than 2 minutes, basically everything he did on the court was bad for the team. Dude would get subbed in with a 9 point lead and in just a few possessions, that would instantly melt down to 2 or 3 and Russell would need to get back in the game That playoff run of course he would become more famous for his pre-game dance routines that he did with Westbrook, than his actual play. And shoutout to my friend Gorjan who still laughs to this day about my horror stories from watching Cameron Payne on the Thunder. That was legit stressful. When KD left the team in that off season, OKC tried to retool the roster, and Cam was sent to the Chicago Bulls in a trade package for Taj Gibson. What followed was the most blunt statement that I’ve ever read about a player. Check out this quote from someone within the Bulls organization: We knew the second practice that he couldn’t play at an NBA level. The only reason it took two practices was because we thought maybe it was nerves in the first one… Any Bulls coach who says differently is lying. Wow, this has to be the harshest thing I’ve ever heard about a player by far, and back then it only confirmed my initial impressions about this guy. As I just found out yesterday, JJ Reddick thought the same thing as well. JJ REDDICK PODCAST. So it was pretty much a unanimous opinion that Cameron Payne was not an NBA player. So from a Chicago Bulls team that ended the season 13th in the East, Payne signed 2 10 day contracts the following season with an even worse team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, who ended the year as 14th in the East or second to last of course, with a record of 19 and 63. This is important to know because he wasn’t picked up by anyone after those 10 day contracts, and if you’re not worthy of playing for the worst teams in the league, then you must really be bad at basketball, I don’t know how else to put it. In November of 2019 Payne basically found himself out of the league, and had to sign with a team in China. This is without a doubt the lowest point of his career. Just a few years after getting drafted, being universally seen as a horrible player, and having to go down to an inferior level of competition just to play, that had to have been demoralizing. After a short stint in the Chinese league, Cameron returns to the states and signs with the G-League team Texas Legends. Now this is where things get interesting and where fortune plays a big role in this story. In the G-League at the beginning of 2020, Payne slowly started to get his confidence back, and played well. In 15 games there he averaged 23 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. So when the NBA returned to the bubble, the Suns, led by Monty Williams who was an assistant in OKC when Cam was there needed a player to fill out the roster, and based on that relationship, as well as his recent performances they called Payne. He knew that it’s now or never for him, so this second opportunity that he got, he wasn’t going to waste it. In the bubble, in 23 minutes per game he had a strong outing of 11 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists while shooting 48.5% from the field and 51.7% from downtown.

Next, we have Derrick Rose. From the moment that he was traded to the Knicks midseason, he completely turned this team around. It culminated with them ...

The Phoenix Suns Have An UNSTOPPABLE SYSTEM...
The Phoenix Suns Have An UNSTOPPABLE SYSTEM...

Although the Suns could only facetime Chris Paul for this game, they didn’t miss a beat and showed everyone why they are legit title contenders, and how great their system is. Let me elaborate on that. What up everybody, my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. First thing is the ball movement. With or without Chris Paul, look at how the ball is flying around the perimeter, especially after Booker gets double teamed. Right here we got an example of that, and as soon as Devin gets rid of it, phenomenal recognition by Cam Johnson as he already sees ahead what’s about to happen. So as Morris needs to cover up top, Johnson sets a screen for Crowder to come out and opens up in the corner, the extra pass, the open shot and the three. Again, late in the shot clock, the Clippers throw another blitz at him, but we got the swing swing, and Bridges is alone in the corner. The Suns are shooting 45% on corner 3’s in the playoffs so of course this one goes in as well. Would you be willing to bet that Phoenix will have the most assists in a playoff game this year the one time CP3 didn’t play? No I wouldn’t either, but they had 31 assists in game 1 and you can see just how they’re flowing even without the point god on the court. Which brings us to number 2. The balanced attack. As you look at this shooting chart, you see how it’s all evenly spread out between the paint, the midrange and the three point line. That’s what makes them so tough to defend. They have efficient players who take good shots and ones that are comfortable for them within the flow of the offense. Look at Cameron Payne putting pressure on the defense with these penetrations. He attracts multiple Clippers on him, the great find to Ayton who dunks it in. Again off the pick and roll. The hesitation up top freezes the defender, the hard drive inside forces the help leaving the big man once again for the easy finish. This is beautiful basketball. And speaking of that, look at how beautiful yet simple these 2 possessions are for Cam Johnson at the free throw line. First the cut to the basket, and then this simple 1-2-3 happening in the blink of an eye that he ends it with the acrobatic finish. Amazing. We already talked about how they got some of the 3 point looks, which takes us to the midrange, and my third point about this team. It certainly helps to have a mercurial star who can go into heat check mode and score 18 points in the third quarter, almost all of them on midrange jumpers. Devin Booker seemed unguardable during this stretch and you can see how he was hail bent on getting to that exact spot on the court where he feels most comfortable to raise up and knock down shot after shot. He ended the quarter with these almost exact same 2 possessions in a row. Receives a high screen, snakes his way to the elbow and fires over the big man who at this point is at his mercy. Thing is, there was no mercy from Booker in this game as he ended with 40 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists. His first career triple double when his team needed it the most in the conference finals without their leader. Talk about coming up big in the clutch. While we still don’t know whether Paul will play in game 2, what is obvious is that this team is extremely dangerous even without him on the court, so I can’t wait to see how much better they can be with Cp3 running the show. That’s it for now, subscribe and talk to you in the next one. Peace out.

The REAL REASON Why The Bucks DESTROYED Brooklyn
The REAL REASON Why The Bucks DESTROYED Brooklyn

When you see this sequence it all becomes clear. As Harden steals the ball, look at all this space for him to open up a fast break. But you can see he doesn’t even try to push off as he knows just how injured he is, and is on the court literally surviving. Thing is, KD didn’t score 49 this game, and Giannis finally made the adjustment we’ve all been waiting for so we’re now headed to a game 7. What up everybody, my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. No, Antetokounmpo didn’t really guard KD except on 2 switches and you can see them right now. Despite the fact that he ranks at the top of this list of all the players who’ve guarded Durant since 2013. Look, you've got guys like Hayward, Deandre, and Tristan Thompson allowing over 60%, right in the middle is Lebron with 47.5% and Igoudala and P.J. Tucker right here, but at the very top allowing under 36% is the greek freak. Despite that, the Bucks still didn’t put him as the primary defender. Instead Tucker scratched and clawed and fought against KD, and maaan this is why he’s always been one of my favorite players. Like look at this! I got tired just watching this. Kevin Durant Game 6: 32 PTS / 11 REB / 15-30 FG The fact that Durant still shot 50% from the field is a testament to how great of a player he is and possibly the best offensive weapon that this league has ever seen. But just as I said in my previous video, it will be extremely tough for him to have another game like that again, let alone on the road. And as you saw in that opening clip, with Harden playing on 1 leg, the others not really providing support, Milwaukee was able to blow this game open at the end. And they did that in part because of this adjustment by Giannis. As you look at his shooting chart, you can see how decisive he was on going to the basket and not settling for some silly jumpers. According to some advanced tracking data, Giannis’s average shot distance in game 6 was 5.6 feet or 1.7 meters from the basket. That’s the closest he’s been shooting from throughout these playoffs. And yeah, as you see these highlights, everything is at the rim. Giannis didn’t attempt a 3. (Last playoff game: April 2018) Actually, 1 interesting fact is that he did not attempt a single 3 pointer. The last time he went an entire playoff game without shooting a 3 was in April of 2018. 3 years ago. Giannis Antetokounmpo Game 6: 30 PTS / 17 REB / 12-20 FG And the result is 12-20 from the field and a win. I don’t know too much about basketball and strategy, but it seems to me that this is working. I’m very curious to see if he repeats this in game 7. Khris Middleton Game 6: 38 PTS / 10 REB / 5 AST / 5 STL / 11-16 FG But as big as Antetokounmpo was, Khris Middleton really exploded in this one. Shooting 11-16 a phenomenal performance. After that horrible 8 for 22 he needed to step up to help his team force a game 7 and he did that. However I have to admit that Middleton has always been a hot and cold type of player for me when it comes to big games, so I wanna see how he does when everything is on the line, and Milwaukee will definitely need another big game from him. The pressure is already building, so let me provide a small comedic relief with this video of Giannis at the line that seemingly lasts forever. Look at all the theatrics, and everyone is just standing there waiting for him. The only one more frustrated than Harden is probably myself since the game started at 3am. I don’t have all night to wait for this, come on Giannis. Anyway, let me know in the comments who you got in game 7. That’s it for now, subscribe and talk to you in the next one. Peace out.

WHAT IS GIANNIS DOING HERE?!?! (Nobody Is Talking About This!!!)
WHAT IS GIANNIS DOING HERE?!?! (Nobody Is Talking About This!!!)

We witnessed a legendary performance by Kevin Durant. By now you’ve seen all the highlights, But did you notice how and why Giannis wasn’t guarding him on any of those possessions? Let me go deep and break down the hidden details that you may have missed. What up everybody, my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. First things first, let me start off by saying I admire the courage of James Harden to go out there clearly injured and limited in what he could do but regardless give everything he got. Although he looked awful and I kind of felt sorry for him at times. Watch how he’s getting blown by guys in their first step. I know the joke was on him for years about his defense, but let me tell you there is no way he gets abused on defense like this if he’s healthy. Like look at this: Pat Counaghton just flies by him like there’s nobody in front. And there were multiple instances where Harden’s man created an advantage which resulted in a 3 for Milwaukee. And the situation was just as obvious offensively. 1 for 10 shooting, and you can clearly see that there’s no burst of speed, no acceleration, just jogging up and down the court, trying to preserve that hamstring which is where you fire off of when you want to speed up. Still despite all of that Harden played almost 46 minutes which is crazy. The team needed him to be on the court to just be a threat and have a defender close to him at all times, which as we saw was enough to open things up for KD to go ballistic. To me the real hero of this game was Jeff Green. 7 for 8 from downtown, a scorching hot shooting night when nobody expected that from him. With virtually nobody else stepping up to help KD carry the load, Green was out there knocking down shot after shot, keeping the team within striking distance, and allowing for that offensive explosion by their leader to secure a comeback. And that same leader was loud in praising these 2 guys Green and Harden for how they battled in this game. DURANT PRAISING HARDEN AND GREEN But let’s now go to the main point of this video. Why and how did Kevin Durant score his 49 points, and could the Bucks players as well as coaching staff do something else to prevent this catastrophic outcome for them. This tweet by CJ Mccollum might look weird at first glance but let me decode it for you. This right here means easy money. And this is who that is. Easy Money Sniper on IG. So CJ is trying to say that while KD has been cooking in the second half, Giannis kept standing to the side guarding guys like Bruce Brown and Landry Shamet. Like for real, the Nets absolutely destroyed Milwaukee with this high screen for Durant letting him get a head of steam, switch the primary defender off of him, and then Brook Lopez is left on an island here, he drops to protect the basket, and KD just raises up and knocks down the jumper. This is exactly how Brooklyn cut down the lead in the third quarter that was as big as 16 points and made this game interesting. While that was in transition- in the fourth quarter in the half court, it was pretty much the same thing of just trying to get the main guy whether PJ or Middleton switched off of him. And once that happens, you can see how easy it is for Easy Money Sniper to get a shot up and splash it. And you can see throughout that whole time, Giannis Antetokounmpo- the 2020 defensive player of the year, and this year’s first team all defense is standing in the corner guarding guys who are nowhere near the threat of scoring 50 points in a game. And the media kind of pressed him on this topic in the postgame interview, about him taking the challenge and guarding the best player in this series. GIANNIS INTERVIEW So as he says right here, I guess it’s Coach Bud to blame for not putting him on KD? I don’t know, at some point when you’re the leader of the team, you gotta step up and take the responsibility in my opinion. And I guess I can understand the fact that Giannis is the main weapon offensively so maybe the strategy was to save him as much as possible on defense so that he could go all out on the other end, but maaan, KD was playing alone in this game and he still battled on defense. To me there had to be some possessions where if not directly on him, Giannis should have at least been higher up closer to the perimeter so that it’s tougher for Brooklyn to look for the switch. This way, Durant got blistering hot and when the game was on the line, he was able to fire off one last heat check, a contested shot from waaay downtown, which ultimately sealed it. And this reaction says it all. KD CELEBRATION Of course we don’t know what happens in games 6 or possibly 7, but to me, this iconic performance by KD a triple double with 49 points 17 rebounds and 10 assists, playing every single second of the game. Exactly 48 minutes out of 48 minutes on the court.

EXPOSED: How Joel Embiid Is HURTING The Sixers
EXPOSED: How Joel Embiid Is HURTING The Sixers

You think that this is the worst with Joel Embiid? Settling for threes and trying...whatever this is instead of overpowering everyone in the post? How about this? An attempt for a eurostep against 2 defenders with an underhanded flip shot that ends...infamous. Let me show you how Joel Embiid is sometimes hurting the Sixers, and how Philly gave Atlanta the win. What up everybody, my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. In the second half of game 4 Embiid went 0 for 12 from the field. Not a single made field goal. That’s the most attempts in a half without a make over the last 25 postseasons. And how he achieved this is mostly by settling for difficult shots. Right here, instead of being aggressive in trying to get to the rim, he takes no contact, and just shoots a contested 1 legged fadeaway that ends up being an airball. Again, look at this: He’s at least in the paint so I’ll give him that but look- there’s no contact, no obstruction by Capella here. He’s not working hard on defense at all. This makes it easy for him. You’re bailing him out. Instead of just bangin down low and musclin inside- you see that the Hawks center is unable to stop this, he is physically inferior. Or this right here, look at the hard drive, the bullyball, as Capella literally bounces off of him. This is unstoppable. Late in the 4th with the game on the line- this is the exact same position like the previous clip, but instead check out what he opts for. No movement, no effort, hand in his face jumper is short of course, giving Atlanta a chance to take the lead. Which they did, and ended up winning the game despite having absolutely no business in doing that, after being dominated for the majority of the game. And when you watch some of their totally chaotic possessions down the stretch where they looked like a high school team, having no idea what to do- you understand just how much the Sixers helped them out and practically gifted a game to this team, making the series more interesting for us the neutral viewers. Trae Young looked like he was bothered by the shoulder and shot 8 for 26 in this game which is 30.8% and they still found a way to get a win. Like for real, he missed the entire basket on this completely wide open look. They won this game. When you analyze and compare all the important numbers, it makes no sense to me how they were able to come out victorious. Like look at this. Field goal and three point percentage are way better for the Sixers. They also led in rebounds, and the assists were neck and neck. Really I gotta admit I’m confused. Now, Joel did say in his postgame interview that he wasn’t 100% and is dealing with knee problems but at this point, either play aggressive all the way, or don’t play at all, this is sort of like a lose-lose situation. Possibly re-aggravating an injury, while being passive and not being helpful to the team. And if you’re a Philly fan I don’t how long you can go like this. Battling all this stress with Embiid. When he plays, at times he’s the MVP, but then sometimes, especially after he hits 1 or 2 he turns into this jump shooter frustrating everyone watching the game. And that’s when he plays at all. Then you got all of his injury problems, the missed games, the load management, the grimassing on the court, and literally every fall he takes looks scary and a possible injury. I don’t know, to me you guys, the Philly fans are the real MVP. So yeah, we’ll just have to wait and see which version of Joel we’re gonna get in a pivotal game 5. Will he decide to dominate, or take this route again? And on top of that- if he’s healthy enough to play at all. Stay tuned. That’s it for now, subscribe and talk to you in the next one. Peace out.
