On the out of bounds play, the Spurs run a 2-3 zone. But check out this phenomenal play from the Pacers. Keep an eye on Chris Duarte, and Justin Holiday as they’re going to set 2 screens on the inside for Wannamaker to drive. Not the cleanest execution but it does enough for the backside to collapse, leaving an open look for Torey Craig and he swishes it from downtown. Here’s how this great play design looked at full speed and no wonder why they got 3 points out of it. A lot of games last night so let’s check out some more interesting actions. What up everybody, my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. The Sixers forgot that the most dangerous player is often the inbounder. So we see C.J. Mccollum is gonna set a screen for Powell to get a full head of steam towards the basket. At the same time, the pass goes to Covington who will have a better angle to find him under the basket. This turns out to be a much easier score for Portland but on the replay we can see that if Philly switched and Powell couldn’t get it, this flows into a screen for C.J. up top and he would have a 3 point shot. It’s very often that teams have multiple options on out of bounds plays, and we see that being the case right here with this design from the Portland Trail Blazers. Moving on. The Celtics get the ball to Williams outside, and from there we have a screen and a handoff for Brown on the outside curl. So at this moment, since Lavine is trailing, and Jaylen has a driving lane, Vucevic needs to step in and stop that. Nice roll by Williams and this is a great position to be in. But the pass gets deflected so the initial advantage is lost, however great awareness by the big man as he flings a pass to the corner, the swing to Smart and he has a wide open three, that goes in. Once again check out how they created the advantage in the first place, nice effort by Chicago to try and extend this possession as much as possible, but at the end Boston still scores. Next up it’s Nikola Jokic with an insane pass to the corner. As we stop it right here, you see that there are 4 Grizzlies defenders who could intercept the ball on its way to Gordon. But this is Jokic we’re talking about so dude fires away a one handed slingshot across the entire court and defense on the money for Aaron Gordon buuuut unfortunately he misses it. Still I had to put this one in, for you to see it even tho it didn’t end in a score and it wasn’t a play call. Speaking of that, the next few are not necessarily designed plays, but the ball moved as seamlessly as the coach would draw it up. Sabonis and Holiday execute this to perfection. We got the pass and the high pick, Holiday goes up for the shot, at the last second drops it to Sabonis, back to Holiday on the drive, back to Sabonis, the turn and the lefty hook shot. This was amazing. Look at the ball bouncing almost like it’s in a pinball machine. Incredible 2 man game. Similar to that, Quickley and Topin run the high pick and roll, but the Raptors close the driving lane, so the 2 Knicks didn’t stop moving and went straight to it once again. Got a better angle and Obi Topin finishes with a layup. Here’s how that looked at full speed as the 2 young players show their great on court connection. And finally it’s the Nuggets again as they run this in a free flowing way with a lot of passing and movement, penetrating and kicking, to finally end up with a wide open look for Bones Hyland who hits the 3. Once again, check out how that looked on this beautiful Denver Nuggets possession. Let me know in the comments which was your favorite. That’s it for now, subscribe and talk to you in the next one. Peace out.
James Harden drives and does his usual under arm hook going into a jump shot, buuut he doesn’t get the call, resulting with a bad miss. This is one of the reasons for his horrible start to the season, but not the main one. In fact, Harden himself revealed what’s actually holding him back. Let’s break down his early season woes. What up everybody, my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. At the start, we have to mention how the new rules are impacting Harden’s performance. Throughout his career, James has been getting close to 9 free throws per game. With some seasons even getting close to 12 attempts from the line. So compare that to a measly 3 foul shots per game at the start of this season. That’s a huge reduction. And we can see on these highlights that the refs no longer react to his flailings and arm hooks. So it’s pretty obvious that he finally got exposed right? He was a horrible player all along and the only way he could score was by doing all of these ridiculous moves to get the foul. Right?! Of course not. Couldn’t be further from the truth. Harden’s real problem in these first 5 games is the fact that he looks slower, out of rhythm and definitely not as aggressive. So he revealed to the media what’s the real reason behind this, in the postgame interview following that ugly loss from Miami. If you ask me, not training in the summer, and not being in game shape looking like he is right now, that’s impacting him far more than any rule changes. I 100% believe in everything he said as the main reason for this awful start. Now, here’s the interesting thing. This situation reminds me of another terrible start that he had in Houston. In 2018, almost a quarter into the season, the Rockets found themselves at the bottom of the western conference, second to last only above Phoenix. There were some people going as far as questioning if this team can even fight to get in the playoffs. Especially after Chris Paul injured his hamstring during that stretch. So with his team’s future hanging in the balance and all the offensive load falling solely on his shoulders James Harden went into overdrive. According to his coach at the time Mike D’Antoni, the beard increased the intensity of his training regime to a whole new level. He would come in early to do some lifting. Then before video sessions he would run the arena stairs, and after the 90 minute practice with the team, he had intense 1 on 1 games with his teammates. P.J. Tucker and Gerald Green would get extra physical with him and double team him- simulating real game situations. So just as he started doing all of this, the Rockets went on a phenomenal run. So from 11 and 13 being second to last, they ended the season at 53 and 29 securing home court advantage. This superhero statline at the end of the season confirms that his hard work truly paid off. So what I’m trying to say with this comparison is the fact that this is not an issue of Harden not working hard or not trying or not wanting to put in effort. This is a matter of physical as well as physiological limitations that come after a long process of recovering from an injury. James Harden will 100% get back to his old self. And he will get back with a vengeance. With this Brooklyn Nets team, he even has far more room to go at his own pace and not rush or risk anything. You’ll definitely see the free throws go up, as he gets his explosiveness and the decisiveness to attack the basket strong. What I don’t like however, is the lack of effort and fight from the entire team. This loss to the Heat came mainly because they got out hustled. Miami had a ton of open looks in transition, and even fast breaks after a Nets score. That’s inexcusable. Dwyane Deadmon fought against multiple Brooklyn players and got putbacks off of offensive rebounds resulting in points that shouldn’t be there. So all in all, of course the Nets are still in control and this is just 5 games, but these are the issues that they have, both individually and as a team, that need to be addressed. At the end, huge shoutout to Patty Mills. Yesterday I jokingly said that now that I made a video about his terrific shooting, I expect him to go 1 for 9 in his next games. Dude really went 1 for 9 against Miami hitting nothing but the backboard on a wide open shot. I can not believe that I jinxed him that bad. This is unbelievable. Anyway, let me know in the comments what do you think about the James Harden situation. That’s it for now, subscribe and talk to you in the next one. Peace out.
As the Nets go in transition of course the attention is on James Harden with the ball. Then it shifts to one of the best shooters in the league Joe Harris. And finally the ball gets to KD, one of the most prolific scorers in NBA history. You gotta try to stop him. So on such a stacked roster, nobody realizes that there is a wide open Patty Mills in the corner. And that includes the cameraman which is crazy. As he goes to shoot this practice shot- we finally see the reason why he was that open. But Mills doesn’t care about Kyle Kuzma because he’s too busy knocking down threes at a staggering 64.0% so far in 4 games. And while 64% is not sustainable of course, Patty Mills could have an insane shooting year because of this 1 thing that nobody talks about. What up everybody, my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. Dude started the season 10 for 10 for 3 point range which is the first time that someone went 10 straight to start the season and broke the 8 for 8 record held by...oh right, held by Patty Mills in 2013. So that’s pretty cool. Now, you may be asking why I am making such a big deal and a video about a 38.7% career shooter from downtown who’s having a little hot streak at the beginning of the season. And to that I say: There’s something that nobody is talking about. Let me show you this little graphic here. As we take a look at the last 7 seasons, we notice a fairly decent percentage from 3 point range, but besides 2016/17 and maybe 2018/19, this is nothing to get excited about. But let’s now focus solely on catch and shoot threes. And all of a sudden we see elite shooting numbers. Consistently being above 40 with the sole exception of that 1 year, which is still solid by itself. Patty Mills is a sniper when it comes to just catching and shooting the ball. And guess what? He is going to get a ton of those this season. In fact, the large majority will be like that, since he of course doesn’t have to create, having guys like KD and Harden on the floor. In transition with the beard attacking and Aldridge diving to the basket, you know that the first rule for the defense is to stop the penetration. So as Harden kicks it out, this becomes a routine practice shot for Patty who went 7 for 7 in this game. And right here on the long rebound, as the ball gets to Durant, Mills already sees the entire defense watching him, so he’s going to relocate, sprinting to the opposite side where no other player is, and look at how much room he’s got for this shot that touches nothing but the bottom of the net. And not to mention how many of these situations there will be throughout the season. KD isolated on the wing, Curry makes the slightest move over there, and we got the pass, the shot and the bucket. Absolutely deadly. With the whole Kyrie Irving saga, and him not being in the roster, Patty Mills has been getting a lot of playing time and a lot of opportunities. But even if Kyrie somehow gets back in the roster and the minutes go down for the Australian, I fully expect him to keep getting the same looks, and to continue to knock them down as this is his favorite way of operating on the floor, and he shows that he can be one of the most dangerous shooters in this particular setup. Maan, the Nets got a great piece for their championship run. In my opinion the best is yet to come from such a battle tested player and a guy molded by Gregg Popovich. We’ll see that when it matters the most, in the playoffs. I’m sure that now that I’ve made this video, he’ll go 1 for 9 in his next 2 games but regardless numbers don’t lie, and they say that he’s a deadly catch and shoot player. If you liked this video, please subscribe. It helps a lot. Talk to you in the next one. Peace out.
Video Sponsored by Ridge Wallet. Check them out here: https://ridge.com/HEATCHECK The Hornets hit Brooklyn with this beautiful action, literally on the first play of the game. As Lamelo brings it up, we got 2 screens for him up top. Thing is, both Hayward and Plumlee slip those, while Ball attacks along the right side. This catches the Nets defenders by surprise and the big man finds himself wide open under the basket. So Lamelo finds him with a laser pass, and we got an uncontested dunk. Charlotte absolutely stunned the Brooklyn Nets by coming to their place and beating them, to start the season at 3-0 for the first time in franchise history. Let me show you some of the reasons for the hot start. What up everybody, my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. First of all, we have to start with Miles Bridges. To me he’s been the main guy early on for Charlotte, and so far in these 3 games he’s averaging 25 points per game which is literally double than his 12.7 last season. You can absolutely see that this is sustainable because of the aggressiveness that he’s showing early on. Look at some of these moves when attacking the basket. Dude is expanding his repertoire and is becoming hard to guard at his position. And when you think of Bridges, the first thing that probably comes to mind are his superhuman dunks that almost caused the Hornets announcer to have a heart attack. But despite this, Miles was a 40% shooter from downtown last year, and it seems like he’s keeping up with this pace, and even making a step forward. It’s logical to try to increase the shots from outside so he’s been doing that going from 4 to 6, but at the same time making more so at the start of this new season he’s sitting at 44.4%. I believe that Bridges can keep up with this pace, and if not above 20, he can definitely average 19 points for the year, and with that he will surely be among the main candidates for most improved player. Next, I wanna point out the fact that this team plays incredibly fast paced with a lot of passing. In fact so much so that they’re at the top of the league, number 1 with 29 assists per game in these 3 matchups. And you already know who’s at the forefront when it comes to this. Lamelo Ball. At this point you almost expect that he will do something incredible each and every game. Right here, he drives, and at this moment Ball already sees the wide open Hayward in the corner, but instead of telegraphing that pass, check out how he looks towards Bridges, completely faking out the defense, as you can see the help guy going there. The incredible no look pass plus the amazing hangtime on this assist, as Hayward knocks down the three. Moving on. Even when Ball is not in the game, Ish Smith has been great early on in running the point guard position off the bench. With 5.7 assists it’s almost like the team doesn’t miss a beat when Lamelo is not in the game. And a lot of people don’t know that even tho he’s older now, Ish is still among the quickest guys in the league, so it’s always fun seeing him use that speed and go into attack mode causing all kinds of problems for the defense. In fact, Smith along with Cody Martin started the run that brought back Charlotte in the game against Brooklyn so Lamelo himself told coach Borego to ride it out with Smith. I absolutely love this, and it shows great maturity and trust in the team from such a young player. This was an incredible move, and it paid off big time, so I can only imagine how the atmosphere and the team chemistry is for the Hornets at the moment. So yeah, this was the real reason why he wasn’t playing in the 4th quarter of a big game. Coach Borego confirmed that in the postgame press conference. On the topic of the team, they accomplished their goals of having a deep roster, and being long and athletic especially on the defensive end. Against the Nets for example, they started Lamelo Ball, Kelly Oubre, Gordon Hayward, Miles Bridges and Mason Plumlee. This is an incredibly long and versatile lineup that can move quickly, switch, and it allows them to get a ton of steals and get up in transition for a lot of easy points. Charlotte has been getting 10.7 steals in these 3 games, which is a ton considering that last season the league leaders had 9 per game. I know it’s early of course, but I have to point out what this team has been doing well on the court. At the end I also want to give a shoutout to Gordon Hayward who is another guy on this roster having a great start to the season. Of course with him the performance is not the main concern as his injuries. So hopefully he can stay on the floor and be another weapon for the Hornets. When you add in the fact that Terry Rozier hasn’t even played in 2 of the first 3 games, meaning that they are yet to be in full strength, things are looking incredibly promising right?
SUBSCRIBE To the second channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0POGuktAlHvY2TkCXNalLg/videos Check out how far out Porzingis is as he just watches Luka dancing into a stepback. He knows he’s not getting the ball here. Similar to that, look at Doncic after he throws the pass for the post up. This body language says everything. Now it’s time for the big man to get a shot. This is absolutely not the dynamic you want to see from your 2 superstars. Watching each other taking turns at going 1 on 1 with no movement at all. Dallas lost the opening game by 26, and it wasn’t pretty at all. Let me show you. What up everybody, my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. After that playoff debacle last year especially for Porzingis, and with the new coaching staff, you would think that things would change. But as you can see, there is no synergy whatsoever between the 2 and it mostly boils down 1 on 1 matchups. Kristaps was mostly way out at the three point line waiting for a kickout which sometimes he got, but oftentimes he didn’t as Luka did his usual thing, and also because there are players far more suited for that role, and ones that can knock it down from deep at a better rate. I gotta be clear, it’s not that I’m blaming Kristaps, it’s just that I feel like they really haven’t figured out the fit and how they can both coexist in this offense. There were multiple examples of a pick and roll between them, where it could have been executed better in my opinion. Right here we have the high pick, but then you see that the big man is hesitant to fully roll, and not really in a good position to get the pass with all the defenders around. So it’s kind of a herky jerky situation that ends up with this awkward floater and a miss. In this situation, great screen, and Luka could really bounce pass this to Kristaps, as he’s got the lane to attack against Trae Young. But Doncic was already set on shooting this, which to me isn’t the best decision and it ends up being another missed field goal. So almost in a way to make it up to him, there will be plays where Luka is on the side just sitting there, letting the big man get his touches and be involved in some actions. Or in this situation look at how he throws the ball inside and just signals to everyone that this is a play for Porzingis. And since the latvian needs to get his shots, he forces a heavily contested one hander that ends up as a bad miss. Again, I’m not blaming anyone, but this is not ideal. Porzingis is here semi open with Young on him, but Doncic also has an open look that he’s shown that he can knock down. And look at how awkward this looks. Doncic has the ball outside, and Porzingis is in the paint but not really engaged, not looking for the ball, and to be honest, Luka is not really looking for him either. So check out how he starts going towards the three point line, not really having an idea what to do or how the play will look. I don’t care how dangerous he can be from outside, your main big man shouldn’t just be standing out here and looking at what the other guy is doing. Here are a few more for you to see that nothing really happens, and there’s no real connection between Dalas’s 1-2 punch that’s supposed to take them to the finals. I was excited to see if things have changed but this seems to be the same old story from the playoffs last year, and I’m not sure what the Mavericks will do about this, because the fit just doesn’t seem to be there. Mavs fans, let me know in the comments if you would trade Porzingis, or do you believe that this can work. That’s it for now, subscribe and talk to you in the next one. Peace out.
Click this link to start making easy cash! https://www.influencerlink.org/SH9rb Thanks YouGov for sponsoring! On this out of bounds play, look at how the Bucks do all of this fake screening, so that the Nets are watching what to switch. In reality as you can see, it’s a clearout for Giannis to play 1 on 1 and look at how he easily muscles his way to the basket. If he was too strong for James Johnson, Antetokounmpo is too quick for Griffin on this play, and as he drives to the basket, you see the Nets try to help, so we got the kick out and check out all of the time and space that a 40% shooter from downtown has so he knocks it down. Brooklyn had a ton of problems defensively as they tried everyone on the roster in guarding the Greek Freak and were unsuccessful in doing so, but also, this wasn’t the only issue for them and at the end the Milwaukee Bucks celebrated a big opening night win, right after getting their championship rings, which was the cherry on top last night. But let’s focus on the game and go deeper into what actually happened. What up everybody, my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. This win could have been a lot more convincing, as you see all of these completely wide open looks that the Bucks shooters missed which were generated primarily off of the attention or the gravity as they call it in the NBA that Antetokounmpo has. You would think that Brooklyn is in pretty good shape here as they have him doubled with both KD and Patty Mills on him, but he pivots away and look at how the entire defense is around him under the basket. Check out how wide open Connaughton is outside. Giannis does make an incredible pass with his superhuman athleticism, and the Nets were lucky that Pat missed this. Even tho Grayson Allen shot 3 for 10 from outside, I fully expect him to be above 40% this season if he’s going to have this type of looks with nobody around him. If you see the boxscore and you see Pat Counaghton with 20 points, this is exactly the reason why. Open 3’s along with great cuts to the basket are gonna get you a lot of easy points on this team. And Khris Middleton was also a problem for the defense. Pay attention to all the different guys on him. First we got Jevon Carter. Honestly I don’t even know how and why he ends up guarding him as Middleton just raises up as if he’s shooting over a chair. Nothing but net. Then in transition a slower guy like Aldridge bites to the slightest movement and has to protect the basket, leaving an open midrange shot for Khris and we know he’s automatic from here. Similar thing with Blake Griffin. Much quicker than him, so we got the dribble staredown, before the jab and the stepback creating a lot of room for this shot and of course it goes in. Next up, yet another defender trying to stop him. James Johnson right here gets hit with the 1 dribble pull up, the bucket and the foul. And then check out the footwork on this play against Kevin Durant. The nice low dribble, the half spin into a fadeaway shot that’s cash money baby. REKLAMA Moving on, I want to emphasize the effort that Milwaukee displayed on the defensive end. As spectacular as this block looks by Antetokounmpo literally eating up this dunk attempt by Claxton, as well as some of these other blocks that you’re watching right now- it’s not about the flash with this team. It’s always about effort and execution, as every player knows his exact role and gives maximum effort to execute the game plan. And that’s how they limited Brooklyn to 17 out of 43 from the paint, that’s 39.5%. And that’s championship level defense. Watch the awareness from the help defender, knowing at this very moment that this pick and roll will lead to an open lane for KD, as he slides quickly to get into position, go up vertically and perfectly contest this shot, getting the block which opens up a semi fast break, and with Kevin Durant trailing this play Milwaukee already has an advantage, we got the pass to Giannis, the swing to the wide open Grayson Allen and the triple. And speaking of the guy who got the block. Introducing Jordan Nwora. A 23 year old sophomore who only played in 30 games last year with 9 minutes per game. Obviously Budenholzer has trust in him especially with Holiday leaving the game and Nwora used that in the best possible way. He was great on both ends of the court, and despite shooting the ball well and ending up with 15 points, I love his attitude. Not showing any signs of nervousness or fear against a tough opponent, dude was extremely confident taking shots, and putting pressure on the defense. Switching gears and going over to the Brooklyn side of things, I did not like their effort in this game, and it looked like they weren’t just outplayed but they got outhustled, which if you’re Steve Nash, you’re definitely not happy about that.
Offset your carbon footprint with me on Wren! We'll plant 10 extra trees for the first 100 people who sign up! https://www.wren.co/start/heatcheck This video is sponsored by Wren. As the Bucks are setting up this familiar action of 2 screens up top for Middleton to curl, watch how Holiday is going to slip that pick and go in the paint. Middleton throws a bullet pass off the bounce and you can see that the defense has to collapse to prevent the easy layup. Jrue finds Connaughton in the corner with the extra pass for a completely wide open shot and he knocks it down. This was a genius play call and it shows that the champs are sharp coming into the new season, but most importantly, their leader Giannis, looks like he improved in the off season and could be unstoppable. Let me explain why. What up everybody, my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. Early on in the game we see the Greek Freak here bring the ball up in transition and go to this specific spot on the court. The stop, the pull up and the bucket. Raising up off the dribble like this is a completely different story than these 5-6 dribbles in 1 place with opponents literally giving him the open shot. And look at how fluid this looks. Face up at the elbow, surveying the floor, decides to use his mismatch, and goes into the backdown, gets to where he wants, turnaround fadeaway...nothing but net. He started getting comfortable with this shot in the playoffs, and seeing how unstoppable that was I wanted to see him continuing to work on it, and getting better and better. So this looks beautiful. Again look at the fluidity here. The between the legs, the jab, and then this almost 1 motion shot. The form looks much improved and I like where this is going. Even from downtown, check out how comfortably he steps into this shot in transition. And he has a hand in his face but it doesn’t matter. Bang. Dude went 2 for 3 from downtown but more importantly, I gotta emphasize it, the shot looks natural, looks nice, and Giannis appears very comfortable while taking it. We knew that he wasn’t afraid to take the shots. After all, that’s how the Bucks won last year, he put them on his back and went through every obstacle. And even tho this is a very limited sample size from the preseason, but if he is developing a reliable jumper, he will legitimately be unstoppable. This could have been the single most important adjustment that happened this summer. Moving on, I also love how the Greek Freak was able to find his teammates in this game. You already know this scary looking attack with him getting a head of steam in transition. Goes left, into the spin and if we stop it here, you see how both Gobert and Bogdanovic gotta be there. So check out how Antetokounmpo was able to find Lopez straight off the spin. This is great awareness and reaction by Giannis. On this play, not much to break down but it’s a great 1-2 connection between Middleton and Giannis. Everything happens in the blink of an eye and the Jazz were just eyewitnesses to this amazing execution. I like the patience on this possession as it’s clear to me that he can bulldoze past Eric Paschall, but Giannis backs him down while keeping an eye on the entire floor. Brook Lopez slips to the basket and Antetokounmpo notices that, finds him down low and the easy finish. Terrific job of keeping an eye on the entire court and finding the open guy. And speaking of the open guy, someone that will benefit in a great way will definitely be Grayson Allen. He’s been hovering around 40% from three these past two seasons and even tho he didn’t have a great game in this one, you can only imagine the looks that he will get throughout the season, and there’s no way that the percentage can go down as long as he’s playing on this team. This is definitely 1 thing to follow as Allen is a sneaky good signing for the Bucks and could end up being an extremely important piece in a deep playoff run. Even after winning the championship, I feel like this team did not get enough credit, and we are all kind of penciling in the Brooklyn Nets as the automatic number 1 seed in the Eastern conference as well as the favorite to go to the finals. However, with all the drama from the past few weeks, as well as the newest developments suggesting that Kyrie Irving will not play for the Nets this year, it becomes more interesting and more uncertain in terms of which team is actually the best in the East. And that is even more true now as we see the off season improvement for Giannis. If this translates into this year, things are really about to get crazy, so buckle up. Btw if you liked this breakdown, and what I do in general, subscribe to my second channel and watch the breakdown that I did on myself. Finally exposing all my flaws with a dose of humor. SUBSCRIBE To the second channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0POGuktAlHvY2TkCXNalLg/videos The NBA is back and even in the preseason we got some clever play calls like this misdirection from the Clippers. You see the screen and the handoff here for Luke Kennard on the curl. And as the help defender is sliding down to help on the potential drive, we got a crosscourt pass to the corner, and everyone on the court is focused there as you can see. Leaving the lane wide open for Luke. He gets it down low, the fake, finds the open man and the dunk. This was absolutely beautiful and we gotta see it one more time in full speed. So let’s check out the most interesting plays from the beginning of the preseason. What up everybody, my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. Look at all the motion here from Golden State. We got a fake screen up top, while Bjelica comes out on the Iguodala pick. So now with the defender trailing him, they got all the advantage forcing the Blazers to collapse. And at this moment we got an open man in the near corner, open shooter up top, and 1 in the far corner. Nemanja decides to sling it to Oto Porter and he knocks it down. It’s amazing how many options the Golden State Warriors got on this play. And we got a few quick and sneaky executions. First up, on this high pick and roll, as the sixers are starting to attack, you see the defense is spread out. So watch Furkan Korkmaz here, with the fake drive to the baseline which gets his defender off of him and he gets a clean look for this 3 and it goes in. Not really a designed play of course but I like how Korkmaz found a way to get open. Then we got this out of bounds play, Malik Beasley gets a double screen on his way to the corner, and as the defender is trailing him, he would have an open shot, which forces the help. Jordan Mclaughlin- the inbounder, cuts to the basket and you can see everyone is on the perimeter and there’s no defense in the paint, so he’s all alone for this finish. I feel like he was one of the options on this play and it wasn’t just his intuition to cut, because in my opinion the paint was so open with a reason. For them to get such an easy layup. Let me show you a savvy veteran move by Al Horford. In this scramble situation, Schroeder notices that Brown is going back inside so he throws the lob. Horford also knows that and just slides in to kinda screen and protect Jaylen as he seals to opposing players. Brown gets the ball and easily lays it in. Again, not how they drew it up, but I love the quick thinking by big Al to help his team. I always like when shooters get some screening action from under the basket, so Max Strus right here gets 1 and runs away from Lou, and as Williams tries to catch from the inside, we got another pick, and this bump is enough for Strus to get an open look and drill it from downtown. And finally, Minnesota had another nice execution on this play. Initially Edwards gets a high screen, but instead of attacking, he turns back towards Russell. The big man sets the initial pick, but then continues on for another one for D’Angello, who comes out and gets the pass. With the defender on his back, this is now a 2 on 1 situation, and Nas Reid is awarded for his effort and gets the finish inside. It all happens quickly in 1 fluid motion, so shoutout Timberwolves for this nice play. Hey do you need a longer NBA video to get you through your lunch or when you’re on your toilet?
