#Ramsdale was a surprise selection by #Arteta in place of the more senior #Leno. The manager spoke well of his performance and he deserved all the praise. He did not have much to do when it came to making saves but he did command his penalty area with a good deal of authority, he was involved and did well with build-ups from the back. His distribution was impressive and appeared to be really comfortable playing out from the back. He appears to be a strong communicator and is really demonstrative as he tells teammates to follow up on their defensive assignments. This was a good outing for the young Englishman.
#Arsenal got themselves on the scoresheet, kept a clean sheet, and finally got some points on the board for the current premier league season. This did look like a new Arsenal team but those watching in the U.S. were out of luck as the broadcaster failed to show several games for the first 24 mins for fans of Arsenal, Man City, Norwich, Wolves, Watford, and Leicester. I had to go back to re-watch the game from the beginning and the team looked really good even though there is a lot of room for improvement.
Brentford made their return to the big stage after a 74-year absence, they treated themselves and their fans to a big win against Arsenal. Arsenal looked unprepared in this encounter. They had last-minute major player losses but this was not good enough in terms of effort either. I also talk about the impressive performances of several standout teams and managers from the rest of the opening weekend fixtures. Tottenham vs Manchester City; Manchester United vs Leeds United; Everton vs Southampton Newcastle vs West Ham;
#Newcastle and #WestHam gave the St. James' Park faithful an entertaining show on the opening weekend of the #PremierLeague season. Shout out to the two managers for putting on a show even though Newcastle ended up on the wrong side of the scoreline. These are two managers [David Moyes and Steve Bruce] who have been disrespected so much in recent seasons with some going as far as calling them dinosaurs. There was a lot of attacking football on display and the hammers won because they were able to sustain their levels of intensity for longer periods in the second half and their better quality in front of goal also helped.
In this 10 min video, I share insights on England's Path to the #final. I share thoughts on what I thought was going to be a #England path past #Denmark and into the #Final at #EURO2020. #Spain beat #Switzerland in their #EURO2020 Quarter Final clash in a penalty shootout. The Spaniards as they have in all of their games at euro2020 played well in 3 quarters of the field but struggled to convert their possession into a lead. 00:00 Intro & Spain's Covid Issues 01:00 Spain's Goal Explosion 01:25 Luis Enrique's Impact 01:53 Spain's Striker Problem 02:20 A Case of Murphy's Law for Switzerland 03:35 Spain Dominates Possession but Wasteful in Front of Goal 05:02 Spain were lucky and other knockout games 07:00 Italy will give Spain a different sort of a challenge 08:30 Closing thoughts and SPOTLIGHT on MORATA Spain really needs to sort out their goalscoring issues as soon as possible. If they get better at making their possession dominance count - they could win a major trophy with this generation. Luis Enrique has done a really good job with them. In this video, I cover how in #EURO2020 Round of 16 tie, #Italy narrowly edges past a resilient and courageous #Austria side. #Chiesa and #Pessina come off the bench to win it in extra time for Italy. 00:00 Intro and match overview 00:48 Austria's courageous TACTICS 01:15 Alaba's Impact & Austria's Pressing Game 02:10 Italy's struggle with the high tempo 03:01 KEY MOMENTS 03:35 IMPACT OF ITALY BENCH, CHIESA & PESSINA 04:02 MATCH STATS & Verratti's struggles 04:27 Closing Thoughts I describe how Austria's high press and counter-attacking threat gave the Italians numerous headaches. The underdog Austrians played at a high intensity and this was problematic for their superior Italian opponents, most of whom play in the Italian Serie A - a league not renowned for high-intensity football at the moment. This approach almost worked but Italy's strength in depth bailed them out of trouble. The title of this video CNTRL ALT DE LIGT is as much a pun as it is the quickest summary anyone can give of this EURO2020 game between the Czech Republic and the Netherlands. This was the defining moment of this game and it involved the sending of young Mathijs De Ligt. I give the play-by-play account of how the Netherlands shot themselves on the foot during what was the craziest minute of football. I share statistical data from the game as well as go beyond the scoreboard to explain how and why things happened in the game. The games are coming thick and fast so if you have little time to catch up on everything this is your spot. I am making short summaries of the EURO2020 games.
