Zimbabwe vs Sri Lanka 3rd ODI Live Scores | ZIM vs SL 3rd ODI Live Scores & Commentary

The third and final game of the ODI series between Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe will be played on Thursday. This high-octane clash will be played at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Sri Lanka lead the series by a 1-0 margin. The first game was washed out due to rain. The second match was a thrilling one and the hosts managed to emerge victorious by two runs to take an unassailable lead in the series. Batting first Zimbabwe’s batters got starts but failed to convert them into big scores. A lack of partnerships resulted in them getting bundled out on 208 in the 45th over. Skipper Craig Ervine was the lone fighter for them as he scored 82 off 102 balls. For Sri Lanka Maheesh Theekshana was the standout bowler. He bowled beautifully and registered figures of 4/31. Dushmantha Chameera and Jeffrey Vandersay also grabbed a couple of scalps each. In reply Sri Lanka kept losing wickets at regular intervals but Janith Liyanage held the innings nicely from one end. He scored 95 but his departure helped the visitors get back in the contest. The game went down the wire and Chameera (18*) and Vandersay (19*) played brilliantly to take the Lankans home. Sri Lanka lost eight wickets but managed to cross the line with six balls to spare. Richard Ngarava was brilliant with the ball for Zimbabwe and grabbed a fifer but it wasn’t enough as they failed to defend the total. Zimbabwe will be looking to get over that loss quickly and bounce back in the final game of the series. The Lankans meanwhile will look to finish on a high and clinch the series by a 2-0 margin. Sri Lanka continue their dominance over Zimbabwe in the 50-over format. Pitch Report R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo offers equal assistance to the batters and the bowlers. The batters will have to spend some time in the middle before they can start taking down the bowling attack. The spinners will get plenty of assistance from the surface. The Lankans have won 48 games out of 48 whereas Zimbabwe have emerged victorious on 12 occasions. Four games have resulted in no result.

Preview India haven't lost an ODI in Zimbabwe in nine years. That they have only played 13 matches here for the duration is a different discussion altogether but come Monday (August 21), the hosts will have yet another shot at breaking away from the pattern in the third and final ODI. Zimbabwe would have perhaps liked a change of scene, for the Harare Sports Club has seen them go down far too easily in the past few days. But nobody knows it better that it's also the same venue where they recently outmuscled Bangladesh despite missing seven regular players. So it's all about "being a handful for India on a given day," as batting coach Lance Klusener told Cricbuzz ahead of the series. Klusener, though, will be worried about how the top order has shaped up against India's new-ball attack. Yes, Regis Chakabva lost both the tosses but the individual scores belie the playing conditions on offer. Only one of the top-four batters has gone past single digits in the series so far. And that's also constricted Sikandar Raza and Sean Williams, the two best batters in the side. With the series won, India don't have much stake in the fixture except perhaps giving some more game-time to their ever expanding bench strength. KL Rahul, who opened in the second ODI at the cost of Shubman Gill, would like some runs against his name while the selectors will have their keen eyes on the one-upmanship between Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar. Can both of them play? When: Monday, August 22 at 9:15 am local, 12:45 pm IST Where: Harare Sports Club What to expect: Pleasant conditions to play cricket in once again. The average first innings score is about 230 at the venue while only 78 out of 164 games here have been won batting first. Team news Zimbabwe: The hosts brought in Takudzwanashe Kaitano to partner Innocent Kaia at the top but it wasn't quite an improvement in terms of the scoreline. Tanaka Chivanga, who was brought in place of Richard Ngarava and picked the wicket of Shikhar Dhawan, is likely to keep his place. India: To be fair, India's batting lineup has hardly broken a sweat this series. KL Rahul has indicated that he's going to open once again, so where does that leave Rahul Tripathi and Ruturaj Gaikwad, the two top-order batters who have hitherto warmed the bench, is anyone's guess. Bowling wise, there's perhaps more room to experiment and it might just work out well for Avesh Khan and Shahbaz Ahmed. What they said "I do need some time in the middle. Obviously playing this series, it's important for me to take some runs and confidence away, unfortunately didn't work out today (second ODI)" - KL Rahul.

Preview: After a neck-and-neck fight in the ODI series so far between the hosts West Indies and New Zealand, Sunday's decider is now at the mercy of rain gods. West Indies squandered the golden opportunity to seal a rare ODI series win in the rain-marred second match after a batting implosion against two of New Zealand's finest. Asked to chase New Zealand's 212 with nine overs less due to a heavy downpour, the hosts faltered in their chase against Tim Southee and Trent Boult, who shared seven wickets between them to help the visitors keep the series alive. With a World Cup looming next year and a solitary series win against their name in the last eight rubbers - against Netherlands - West Indies would want to prove their win in the series opener, that snapped their nine-match losing streak in 50-overs cricket, was no fluke. After some impressive showing against India previously in the season, where the results did not go in their favour unfortunately, a win against a top, almost full-strength side like New Zealand could be a morale-boosting reaffirmation of their learnings. Meanwhile, New Zealand's remarkable comeback with the ball ensured they live to fight another day but their batting still left a lot to be desired. If it wasn't for Finn Allen's assured knock of 96, and a couple of handy cameos lower down the order, the visitors risked folding for a lot less than their sub-par 212. To add to their woes, injured captain Kane Wlliamson could have already played his last game of the tour. With series and Super League points on the line, New Zealand can ill afford another batting fiasco. When: Sunday, August 21 at 6:00 PM GMT | 2:00 PM Local Where: Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados What to expect: There's an 80% prediction of precipitation which would, in all likelihood, mean a curtailed game. The conditions though have been bowler-friendly through the two games of the series so far and captains have preferred bowling first. Sunday could be no different. Team News West Indies Despite the loss, West Indies could go in unchanged. New Zealand The visitors were forced to bench their captain in Game 2 after he picked up a quad injury in the series opener, and his availability for the decider is unknown. New Zealand could, thereby, stick with the winning combination.

Preview: It was a near-perfect performance from India in the opening ODI against Zimbabwe in Harare, as they bowled out the home side for a mere 189 and chased down the target in just over 30 overs, without losing a single wicket - Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill putting on their third century-plus stand in the last four ODIs they have batted together at the top. Moving forward, the Indian think tank would be pleased with Deepak Chahar's noteworthy performance as he generated swing and bowled with discipline on his return from a back injury. However, the other returning member of the playing XI and the captain of this side - KL Rahul - couldn't get an opportunity to find his batting rhythm as India hunted down the total having not lost a wicket. Overall, India's plans and execution were also on the money in the first ODI, with the pace trio - Chahar, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna - sharing seven wickets between them. The subtext to India's fine bowling show was the visitors have now bagged 26 wickets in their last 13 games in the powerplay in the 50-over format. Incidentally, between August 2019 to December 2021, India had snared only 10 wickets in 21 ODI matches in that phase. Their opponent, Zimbabwe, came into the series on a high, having won both the T20I and ODI rubbers. There were still a couple of concerns during the course of their ODI series against Bangladesh, and one of them was lack of runs from the top order. In fact, the hosts had been reduced to 6 for 2, 27 for 3 and 18 for 3 in the three ODIs versus Bangladesh. But against a stronger opposition, they couldn't wade through early troubles after being reduced to 31 for 4. The likes of Innocent Kaia (the top order bat has struggled to notch up substantial scores after compiling a hundred in the first ODI versus Bangladesh), Tadiwanashe Marumani, Wesley Madhevere and Takudzwanashe Kaitano have to at least wade through the initial period, so that the middle order gets the required platform to build and later on press the accelerator pedal. When: August 20, 9:15 AM Local Time, 12:45 PM IST Where: Zimbabwe vs India, 2nd ODI, Harare Sports Club What to expect: The wickets at Harare Sports Club tend to offer some nifty movement for pace bowlers early on before flattening out. Once again the weather forecast is predicting a clear day. Team News: India: India could go in with an unchanged playing XI for the second game. And if in case the visitors clinch the series with a victory, then they could tinker with the playing XI. Zimbabwe: If Zimbabwe are looking to tinker with the struggling top order, then Kaitano is one of the options. Occasionally, Milton Shumba has also batted at the top in the longest format. What They Said: "My plan is always simple. When the ball is swinging, try to bowl fuller length and take as many wickets as possible. When the ball is not swinging, then there is a Plan B or Plan C," Deepak Chahar said in the presser after his impressive showing in the opening match. "The Indian bowlers bowled really well, put the pressure on us and we lost our way after the first 4-5 overs. It was good to see Richi (Ngarava) and Brad give us that partnership at the end," Regis Chakabva observed on Zimbabwe faltering at the top.

Preview With less than two months to go for the T20 World Cup, it should be no surprise that even a 50-over series now comes loaded with T20 undertones. The biggest of them all, for India, is the return of KL Rahul. Thursday's match will be Rahul's first in competitive cricket since the IPL eliminator in May, following surgery and rehabilitation for his groin injury, as well as being laid low by Covid-19. Ample game time across the three fixtures at a venue where he scored his maiden ODI century in 2016 should be on the agenda for the India captain. Another player who could do with game time is Deepak Chahar, who is coming back from an even longer injury layoff and is in a race against time to convince the Indian think-tank to keep him in their plans for the T20 World Cup. Opportunities to prove his match-sharpness in 10-over spells over the next five days could pave the way for that. He's already made it as part of the reserves for the Asia Cup, where India have picked just three quicks in the main squad (Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan). Zimbabwe too could have one eye on the T20 World Cup, harbouring hopes of advancing to the Super 12s there. They'll also perhaps, look forward to testing themselves in the 50-over format against stronger opponents than their previous ones. The series win over Bangladesh should give them all the morale boost they need heading into this series, but are in need of a big improvement from the top-order to end their long run of defeats to India at the venue. In both their wins against Bangladesh this month, they needed the middle-order - specifically Sikandar Raza and Regis Chakabva - to bail them out of sticky situations (62 for 3 and 49 for 4). A third top-order collapse led to a big defeat. Though the gulf in quality of the two sides is vast, a quick remedy to Zimbabwe's early batting ailments will go a long way in making them competitive against a side like India. When: August 18, 9:15 AM Local Time, 12:45 PM IST Where: Zimbabwe vs India, 1st ODI, Harare Sports Club What to expect: Harare is typically a batter's ally, as seen in the recent ODIs against Bangladesh too. Shikhar Dhawan too alluded to that fact, reckoning that the players will be served with 'great batting wickets'. Team News: India: Shubman Gill comes into this series with an impressive showing against West Indies last month and should hold onto his opening spot, which means the returning KL Rahul could slot in at #3 or #4. Deepak Chahar is fit again and should get game time this series, but it remains to be seen if he's thrust in straightaway. Zimbabwe: The hosts are likely to give the same top-order that played and beat Bangladesh in the 2nd ODI 10 days ago, another opportunity to impress and share the load of performance with Raza and Chakabva. Did You Know: - Sikandar Raza has scored two half-centuries and two hundreds in 9 ODI innings this year. He was the leading run-getter (252 runs) and the leading wicket-taker (5 wickets) in the ODI series against Bangladesh earlier his month - India have won 9 consecutive ODIs at this venue, dating all the way back to July 2013 What They Said: "It's very good news that KL is back in the side. He's one of the main players of the Indian team and with the Asia Cup coming up, it's going to be a good outing for him. I'm sure he'll gain a lot from this tour." - Shikhar Dhawan "I think India is a huge challenge not only for Zimbabwe but for any other team. They are playing good cricket. Missing a few guys I guess from their regular team when they are coming out here. I think there is an opportunity there but we're not too worried about India to be honest. We are worried about ourselves and our processes and us doing our things right. On a given day we can be a handful for the Indian team." - Lance Klusener in an interview with .
