Bagunas falls to injury as Oita bows to Toray in V.League Bryan Bagunas suffered a right knee injury in the first set as Oita Miyoshi dropped its third straight game. Weisse Adler yielded to Toray, 21-25, 17-25, 18-25, in the 2020-21 Japan V.League Division 1 men’s tournament, Saturday at the Kanaoka Park Gymnasium in Osaka. The 6-foot-5 star got hurt during the first set and was immediately rushed to the hospital. “Pag depensa ko tapos may tumunog. Akala ko wala lang pero nung tumalon ako wala na,” Bagunas told Tiebreaker Times, recalling what happened. The National University product has already ruled out a return tomorrow and next week for the V Challenge match. Kota Yamada and Curtis Stockton carried the fight for the short-handed Oita with 12 and 11 points, respectively. The defeat was Weisse Adler’s 32nd loss in 35 outings this season. Krizstian Padar led the Arrows with 21 points built on 19 attacks and two blocks. Shoma Tomita chipped in 13 markers as Toray moved to .500 at 16-16. The two teams will meet again tomorrow, 2 pm, at the same arena, to end their respective campaigns.

Jaja Santiago vs. Toray Arrows x Bryan Bagunas vs. FC Tokyo ¦¦ Highlights and Updates

#JajaSantiagovsTorayArrows #BryanBagunasvsFCTokyo #JajaSantiagoBlocksMayuIshiwaka Pinayungan ni Jaja Santiago si Mayu Ishikawa sa laban kontra Toray Saitama Ageo Medics tried to give Toray its first loss in the 2020-21 Japan V.League Division 1 Women’s Tournament but it was not enough. Ageo Medics absorbed a 23-25, 23-25, 25-27 defeat, at the hands of the league-leaders, Sunday at Zip Arena Okayama. Ageo Medics were always there, keeping toe-to-toe with the undefeated Arrows but just lacked the finishing kick to close out the sets in their favor. Jaja Santiago was guarded throughout the match, only getting six points founded on three spikes, two block kills, and an ace, after a double-digit performance yesterday in their win against PFU. Yuri Yoshino led Saitama with 12 markers while Shainah Joseph had 11 of her own. Leading scorer Mami Uchiseto was held to just two points. Ageo Medics went down to 6-7 for the sixth seed in the 12-team tourney. Azerbaijani import Jana Kulan topped the scoreboard for Toray with 22 points, spread through 17 hits, three blocks, and two service aces. Twenty-year-old Mayu Ishikawa followed suit with 14 markers under her name as the Arrows remain spotless in 15 outings. Santiago and Ageo Medics look to get back on the winning column when they square off against Toyota Auto Body on Saturday, Jan. 23, 1 pm, at the Saitama City Memorial Gymnasium. Frustration continued for Oita Miyoshi despite the constant impressive performances by Filipino import Bryan Bagunas. This as Weisse Adler was dealt a 25-21, 22-25, 23-25, 18-25 defeat by FC Tokyo in the 2020-21 Japan V.League Division 1 Men’s Tournament, Sunday at the Beppu City General Gymnasium. The 6-foot-5 open spiker once again was in the forefront of Oita’s attack, registering 22 points on 18 attacks, three blocks, and a service ace. Another consistent twin-digit scorer in Curtis Stockton also contributed 22 for Weisse Adler as the two imports continue to lack local support. Out of the nine other players fielded by Oita Miyoshi excluding libero Masato Kubota, only three players scored in the contest led by Masaya Katsu’s nine markers. Weisse Adler slid to a league-worst 0-16 win-loss record. FC Tokyo was powered by Yuma Nagatomo anew with 24 points including two block kills and service aces. Adding 17 of his own was Hideyuki Kuriyama in the one-hour 50-minute affair. Nozomi Sato also added 15 markers built on 10 spikes, three blocks, and two aces, while Guoshi Sakoda reached double digits too with 10. FC Tokyo cruised to their fourth-straight victory as they improve to 6-10 for eighth place. Up next for Oita Miyoshi are the Sakai Blazers on Saturday, Jan. 23, 3 pm, at the Konohana Arena in Shizuoka.
