The 3-ball was falling early and often for the Terriers on Monday night at Benjamin Johnson Arena. So much so, that Wofford set an NCAA Division I men's basketball record by shooting 17-of-21 (81 pct.) from beyond the arc on its way to a 92-60 victory over Southern Conference foe VMI. Wofford's 81-percent showing from the perimeter is the highest 3-point field goal percentage in the history of men's Division I basketball (min. 20 attempts). Fletcher Magee led the barrage, shooting 9-for-10 from beyond the arc, making his first seven attempts and scoring a career-high 34 points.
The Wofford College football team was defeated 24-17 by Western Carolina on Saturday afternoon at Gibbs Stadium. The Terriers had four turnovers in the first half and the Catamounts had a 17-0 lead at the half. Wofford battled back in the second half, but were unable to score on their final possession of the game. The Terriers are 3-4 on the season and 1-2 in Southern Conference play, while the Catamounts are 4-2 and 2-1 in the league. Wofford was led by Lorenzo Long with 68 rushing yards and Evan Jacks with 66 rushing yards and 74 passing yards. Western Carolina's Troy Mitchell had 42 rushing yards and was 21-of-27 passing for 203 yards.
The Wofford College baseball game defeated Furman 7-2 on Saturday afternoon at Russell C. King Field to even the weekend Southern Conference series. The Terriers scored three runs in the second inning and added a pair of runs in the seventh inning to secure the win. The rubber match will be Sunday at 1:00 p.m., the final home game of the season for Wofford. Wofford is 34-18 overall and 11-8 in the Southern Conference. Furman is 23-27 overall and 10-10 in conference play. Wofford pitcher Luke Leftwich had nine strikeouts in seven innings on the mound and Conor Clancey had two hits and three RBIs to lead the Terriers. Kody Ruedisili added three hits and Derek Hirsh had two RBIs. The Paladins were led by Jordan Simpson with two runs and an RBI.
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On Saturday afternoon, the Wofford College football team defeated VMI 38-3. The Terriers had four different players score touchdowns in the contest, which marked the 500th win in program history. The Terriers are 5-3 overall and 3-1 in the Southern Conference, while VMI is 1-8 and 0-4 in league play. Wofford was led by Lorenzo Long with 125 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Octavius Harden added 100 rushing yards. Quarterback Michael Weimer ran for a touchdown and also threw for a 19-yard touchdown. The Keydets were led by quarterback Al Cobb, who was 14-of-25 passing for 11 yards.
