The Wofford men’s basketball team picked up its first conference win of the season by rolling past VMI 92-53 on Thursday evening in Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium. With the win, Wofford improves to 9-5 on the season and 1-1 in Southern Conference play, while VMI falls to 5-8 overall and 0-2 in conference action. Wofford has beaten VMI for nine straight contests and the 39 point margin of victory is the largest for Wofford in the series history. The Keydets last win came on Feb. 10, 2001.
On Saturday afternoon, the Wofford College football team was defeated by South Carolina 31-10 at Williams-Brice Stadium. The Terriers made it a 14-10 game on the first possession of the second half, but the Gamecocks scored the next three touchdowns to pull away for the win. Wofford, ranked seventh in the nation at the FCS level, is 9-2 overall. South Carolina is 8-3 on the season in the SEC. The Terriers were led by Lennox McAfee with 49 rushing yards, while Brandon Goodson was 3-of-6 passing. Jake Bentley led the Gamecocks with 22-of-28 passing for 194 yards and a touchdown, along with two rushing touchdowns.
In yet another close game, the Wofford College football team came up with a defensive stand in the final minute to win 31-24 at East Tennessee State on Saturday afternoon at William Greene Stadium. The Bucs scored with six minutes remaining and then forced a Terrier punt to begin a drive with 2:39 remaining. A stop on fourth-and-one with 42 seconds left gave Wofford the win. Wofford, ranked eighth in the nation, opens the season 7-1 overall and 5-1 in the Southern Conference. ETSU is 3-5 on the season and 1-4 in the league. The Terriers were led by Andre Stoddard with 107 rushing yards and a touchdown. Lennox McAfee had a rushing touchdown and a receiving touchdown. The Bucs were led by Austin Herick with 23-of-34 passing for 262 yards and two touchdowns.
Cameron Jackson scored a career high 25 points to pace the Wofford Terriers to an 88-70 win over VMI on Thursday night in the Benjamin Johnson Arena. With the win, Wofford improves to 8-11 on the season and 3-3 in conference play, winning back to back conference games for the first time this season, while VMI falls to 4-13 overall and 1-5 in Southern Conference play. The Terriers are 7-1 inside Benjamin Johnson Arena this season and the Keydets remain winless (0-10) in road games.
The Wofford men's soccer team scored late in the first half and added two more goals in the second to defeat VMI, 3-1, in the Southern Conference quarterfinals on Saturday night at Snyder Field. Sophomore defender Kyle Nelson scored twice and Austin Tuggle added a goal in between to give the Terriers a 3-0 late in the second half. VMI tallied a goal late, but it wasn't enough, as the Terriers advanced to the semifinals of the Southern Conference Tournament.
