It all comes down to this. On today's Locked On Giants podcast, host Ben Kaspick answers listeners' questions about the San Francisco Giants' NLDS Game 5 tonight against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Among the questions asked and answered are: Are we winning Game 5? Give us some stats thatโll make us feel good about Thursdayโs game. Do you think the Giants will be aggressive early against Julio Urรญas? Have the Giants had any success against Urรญas this year? Do you think home plate umpire Doug Eddings will play a role? With everyone available in the bullpen, how aggressive do you expect Gabe Kapler to be? Webb followed by Kevin Gausman (if necessary) followed by Camilo Doval I would imagine if things go as planned, right? Has Tyler Rogers been overused in this series and should he be considered unavailable for Game 5? Besides Doval and Gausman, who can be trusted to relieve Webb if/when necessary? ๐ง Apple http://apple.co/3ycRK3U ๐ง Spotify http://spoti.fi/3Bak0pN http://twitter.com/benkaspick
On today's Locked On Giants podcast, host Ben Kaspick details the San Francisco Giants' thrilling 1-0 win against the Los Angeles Dodgers in LA. In a game that heavily favored the Dodgers because of the pitching match-up, Alex Wood out-dueled Max Scherzer. Scherzer allowed a solo home run to Evan Longoria, and that was the only scoring in the game. Wood pitched into the fifth inning, and manager Gabe Kapler aggressively deployed Tyler Rogers to finish out the frame. He did, and he also pitched the sixth and into the seventh. Jake McGee relieved him, and got two critical outs. Brandon Crawford saved the day with a leaping catch on a Mookie Betts line drive. Then, rookie Camilo Doval got the final six outs in order to close out the 1-0 shutout. Gavin Lux thought he tied the game with two outs in the ninth, but strong wind at Dodger Stadium may have kept the ball in the yard. Regardless, both teams dealt with the wind all night. Longoria hit his home run through it, and Mike Yastrzemski was similarly robbed in the sixth. The win sets the Giants up to potentially clinch the series on Tuesday night. Anthony DeSclafani will start for San Francisco, with the Dodgers yet to announce a starter. It may very well be Walker Buehler on short rest, which could set up a potential Logan Webb vs. Julio Urias matchup in a decisive Game 5, if it comes to that. ๐ง Apple http://apple.co/3ycRK3U ๐ง Spotify http://spoti.fi/3Bak0pN Follow me on Twitter! http://twitter.com/benkaspick
Put the champagne on ice. On today's Locked On Giants podcast, host Ben Kaspick details the San Francisco Giants' tense win over the Arizona Diamondbacks, which reduced the Giants' magic number to clinch the NL West to two. It was an extremely ugly first inning for the Giants, but they rebounded to sweep the D-backs with a walk-off single by Late Night LaMonte Wade Jr. in the bottom of the 9th. Scott Kazmir started, and only lasted 1/3 of an inning. He walked two, there was sloppy defense by Austin Slater, and he ended up straining his hamstring covering first base. But the Giants' offense, led by Slater, Darin Ruf, Buster Posey, and Brandon Crawford, got to Madison Bumgarner, who was making his first start back in San Francisco in front of fans. ๐ง Apple http://apple.co/3ycRK3U ๐ง Spotify http://spoti.fi/3Bak0pN Follow me! http://twitter.com/benkaspick
On today's Locked On Giants podcast, host Ben Kaspick is joined by Locked On Padres host Javier Reyes to talk about the state of the San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres. The duo discuss the Padres' collapse, Yu Darvish's home run problems, and how everyone was wrong about what these two teams would be. The Giants made under-the-radar moves in the offseason and stockpiled a ton of depth, and it has worked out beautifully. Kevin Gausman, Anthony DeSclafani, and others were great pitching additions (while the Padres' acquisitions of Darvish and Blake Snell haven't gone so great). And the Giants have had star production from veterans like Buster Posey, Brandon Crawford, Brandon Belt, Evan Longoria, and more. Their depth has been a hallmark of their resounding success. ๐ง Apple http://apple.co/3ycRK3U ๐ง Spotify http://spoti.fi/3Bak0pN http://twitter/benkaspick https://twitter.com/Javiipeno
On today's Locked On Giants podcast, host Ben Kaspick details the latest with the San Francisco Giants. Prior to Monday's series opener with the Milwaukee Brewers, Alex Wood was placed on the COVID-19 IL, and Johnny Cueto was placed on the COVID-19 protocol list. Cueto is ill but has tested negative for COVID-19. The Giants cannot afford to lose both starters for an extended period. Their rotation has been wobbly lately anyway, and losing 40% of their starting staff as September rolls in does not bode well. However, the team claimed Jose Quintana off waivers yesterday, and he could spot start. The Giants lost the game against Corbin Burnes and the Brewers, a team that nobody would want to face in October. Burnes completely shut the Giants down, and he's one of three aces on their staff. The Giants had some chances, but they hit into some very bad luck throughout the course of the game, including at some critical moments. ๐ง Apple http://apple.co/3ycRK3U ๐ง Spotify http://spoti.fi/3Bak0pN https://twitter.com/BenKaspick
On today's Locked On Giants podcast, host Ben Kaspick details the San Francisco Giants' crushing win over the New York Mets. Brandon Belt homered twice after losing his grandmother earlier that day. The Giants added four home runs to their MLB lead and are on pace to shatter their franchise record. The Giants also guaranteed they would not have five losing seasons for the first time in franchise history with win No. 81 last night. On the mound, Sammy Long was brilliant over 5.1 innings, filling in for the injured Anthony DeSclafani. It was a gutsy, much-needed outing for the young lefty, who could play an important role down the stretch and for seasons to come with the Giants.
