The Utah Jazz are officially a problem for teams in the Western Conference. After beating the Golden State Warriors by 30, they beat the Phoenix Suns by 32 behind an incredible team performance. Lead rookie of the year candidate, Donovan Mitchell, was superb scoring 40 points on 14/19 shooting. Rudy Gobert was a team leading +40 and destroyed everything at the rim. Ricky Rubio flirted with a triple double with a 14/6/9 stat line. And Joe Ingles shot 4/6 from three. The playoffs are in sight for the Jazz, especially if they can keep up this level of play.
The Utah Jazz put on a clinic against the Golden State Warriors. Ricky Rubio was incredible scoring 23 points and dishing 11 assists. Even more remarkable might have been his defense against Stephen Curry who only scored 14 points. Joe Ingles is absolutely out of his slump and hitting threes with prolificity! (hows that for word choice) Finally, Donovan Mitchell was incredible again on his way to a rookie of the year season with 20 points, 4 assists and 4 steals. All of a sudden that’s 3 in the row for the Jazz who are now 3.5 games out of the playoffs. Like and Subscribe!!!
The Utah Jazz lost a heartbreaker to the Miami Heat after Josh Richardson made a late game winner that put the Jazz away. That’s now three losses in a row for the Jazz and nine losses in their last eleven games and puts the Utah Jazz at a major crossroads. There is the possibility of making the playoffs still, but is it worth it? Rudy Gobert will not be back for probably another two weeks and will undoubtedly take time to get back to form. And even when Rudy Gobert comes back, there are still issues with the makeup of the roster with Derrick Favors and Ricky Rubio. A decision will come soon, and it will either be to help the Jazz make the playoffs or do something that helps them in the long-term with the draft. The bright side is Donovan Mitchell continues to make a case for rookie of the year. His play has been phenomenal and makes every game fun, win or lose. P.S. I miss Dante Exum. In a game that will have playoff ramifications, the Utah Jazz lost a tough one to the New Orleans Pelicans. Anthony Davis and Demarcus Cousins were too much for the Utah Jazz who sorely miss Rudy Gobert. This is a month that may decide if the Jazz can push for a playoff spot, or if at trade deadline the Jazz look to collect assets and build around Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell. Dante, Dante, where for art though, Dante!?
On Lebron James’ birthday he came hoping to break probably the strangest losing streak in the league. If you didn’t already know, Lebron hasn’t won in Utah since 2011. After tonight, the streak continues. The Utah Jazz beat Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers behind 29 points from Donovan Mitchell who also put up 6 assists, 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Oh, and he also closed the game in the clutch. What a special, special talent! The Jazz also had great games from Ricky Rubio and Derrick Favors. Rubio had a near triple double and commanded the floor masterfully, setting up players right and left. Favors was his dominant self again shooting 72% from the field for 19 points and some huge blocks and steals. When Favors and Rubio are good, the Utah Jazz are dangerous. Thabo Sefolosha had great defense from Lebron and gives the Jazz a great dynamic at the power forward spot. He’s become invaluable for this Jazz team. One final thing. Happy Birthday to Lebron James who really is the greatest while also being a great ambassador for the league. You don’t hear of Lebron ever being a part of any scandal or black eye for the NBA. He carries his crown well.
The Utah Jazz limped into Oklahoma City to play the Thunder and were blown out from beginning to end. Russell Westbrook set the tone early with big shots giving the Thunder an 11-2 run to start the game and the Thunder never looked back. Defensively, the Thunder were strong keeping the Jazz from getting close to anything that looked like consistent, good offense. For the Jazz to recover, they’ll need to get healthy soon.
On the back end of the back-to-back, the Utah Jazz kept it close with the Cleveland Cavaliers but fell late as Lebron James showed why he is king passing Larry Bird in all-time triple doubles. The highlight of the game was when Donovan Mitchell and Lebron James dueled in the fourth quarter. After the game Lebron congratulated Donovan and even invited him to talk in the Cavaliers locker room. It’s great to see Donovan getting the deserved attention and respect from stars like Lebron James and Dwyane Wade. Other players that had nice impacts on the game were Ekpe Udoh and Joe Ingles. Ekpe has provided invaluable depth and has been a fantastic defensive player for the Jazz. Tonight he had 6 blocks! Ingles was also great flirting with a triple double with 9pts/6rds/9asts.
Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia defense was dominant against the Utah Jazz holding them to 35% from the field. Embiid’s defensive presence kept the Jazz from scoring inside and kept them from ever getting close to beating a very impressive Sixers team. Donovan Mitchell led the Jazz with 17 points but it took 19 shots and he was only 1/7 from three. The Utah Jazz are missing Rudy Gobert’s defense as well as his rolling to the rim that was so potent a year ago. They also miss Joe Johnson’s scoring and ability to spread the floor. On top of that, something is wrong with Ricky Rubio who had 6 turnovers in 22 minutes of play. The turnover issue has been plaguing him all season and may until the end of the year. Whatever the issues, wins will be tough to come by for this team missing three rotation players. Remember to like and subscribe!
