First home league game of the season and despite a smaller crowd than expected, we were still loud & proud. Too good for Crewe on the day and the high press paid dividends - especially in the second half. So good to meet so many friends and Pompey family after so long and lets hope we can mount a decent challenge in the league ...... PuP!
Pompey were up for this .... but it was another great away day spoilt by the football, however for 20 minutes it all looked so good and then some dodgy defending kicked in, Jed ran the show and we were trailing! Still we kept singing and supporting but in the end end we came away with nothing but our pride ... and then spent a long time trying to get on a train, any train .... PuP!
The last Saturday Pompey played before lockdown was Peterborough (away), so fitting that the first time fans are allowed in grounds it should them we play again. The result ended 2 - 0 to the home side again and I have to say we deserved the win on the day and with a little bit more composure and luck it could have been more. One thing that hasn't changed is the inconsistencies of Referees and whilst most of the decisions went against us there were a couple that should have gone the other way as well. Nonetheless it was all about having fans back today and you could see it lifted the players. The goal celebrations for the Tom Naylor screamer were great although the groundsman might disagree ..... and whilst it was great to be back in the ground in socially distant seating, it won't be til everybody is back together that we can say this is over, but for now this is a big step and so glad I was there to enjoy it! PuP!
Outdone by a more clinical side and can't say we deserved much more on what was another poor away performance. Jack's selection proved a mistake (needs game time to find match fitness but now seeking it in the heat of the run-in). Rectified at half time and we could have salvaged something but with only 2 or 3 half chances we never asserted the pressure required to turn the game around. The stewards in the away end didn't cover themselves in any glory either and aggravated unnecessarily, eventually leading to a melee that was totally avoidable. All in all a bad day at the office, so on to Tuesday and Fleetwood at home ..... we owe them one as well. PuP!
The ecstasy and the agony - the life of being a Pompey fan. 3 - 0 up (should have been 4) and then we gift them a soft one before half time. Next goal is the important one now and despite a good couple of chances at the start of the second half we seemed to retreat into our half and started being sloppy in possession, inviting them on. Still ok until we give a penalty away and then it becomes a rearguard action and Southend equalise. Having said that we still then had a bit of pressure and a couple of half chances to snatch it but of course we didn't ...... thankfully we got out with a point in the end but have to say the fans kept supporting the team no matter what - it's the only way we'll come through this - together! PuP!
What an away day this turned out to be ..... The magic of the FA Cup gave us a last gasp winner and sent the Pompey fans into ecstatic celebrations matched only by the players! It should be noted that Norwich despite having only 10 men for most of the match showed us how to pass and move and what improvements will be needed should we get up next season - but failed to create many clear cut chances, leaving the way for Andre Green to enter the fray late on and create his 15 minutes of fame over the weekend. Football can give you the highest of highs and it certainly didn't disappoint here. Special mention to the fans for the great support throughout the game - proud to be Pompey!
25 Year celebration for Charlton being back at the Valley was upstaged by a Pompey away win and a good second half performance. But the real praise was for the travelling Blue Army who out sung and out supported Charlton. PuP!
