Dogtooth Tuna - Wild Yasawa Islands Ep. 1
Yasawa Islands Fiji, 2018 When Tristan from Missing At Sea announced he was starting an international fishing charter in Fiji I jumped straight on board within minutes. We were lucky enough to be one of the first groups over there. In hindsight blindly jumping on board an international trip with two guys I'd never met could have turned out terribly but Charlie and Jackson turned out to be legends and we all had the exact same ideas about the fishing we wanted to do. As you can imagine with a weeks fishing and exploring on a tropical Fijian island there is too much footage for one upload so I'm splitting it up and making three episodes. Would we get a big Dogtooth Tuna? Would I finally pin a big Giant Trevally? Would I even put down the fishing rod and grab a camera? 50KG Dogtooth Tuna on Popper! Filmed The Strike!
This is without a doubt the most epic thing I've seen on the water, watching a Doggy of this size murder Charlie Duetz's popper is something I'll never forget. We actually managed to sell this fish to a local resort, watch and find out how much a fish of this size is worth.. I managed to get a good angle from my GoPro, before grabbing the good camera and am beyond stoked that I managed to capture and hopefully convey the emotion and excitement of such a fish. It's very rare to capture such a strike and there's only a handful clips I managed to find on the internet, very cool. Share this far and wide!
