The Jaguars capped off the regular season with a 62-52 victory over #FunBelt UT Arlington at the Mitchell Center. Charles Manning Jr. led the Jags in scoring, pouring in 17 points to go along with his 5 steals and 4 assists.
South Alabama improved to 8-0 all-time against the Rams of Mobile with a 78-45 victory at the Mitchell Center. Marshall Kearing made his first career start, pulling down 16 rebounds to go along with his 14 points. The Rams are coached by former Jag assistant Darnell Archey.
The Jags scored a touchdown on each of their first four possessions to claim a 28-0 advantage, then coasted to a 31-13 victory over Arkansas State on Homecoming Saturday. All 4 touchdowns came off the arm of Jake Bentley, 2 to Jalen Tolbert, and one each to Brandon Crum and Terrion Avery. The Jags have now won 3 straight in the series over the Red Wolves.
In first round action at the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, South Alabama squared off with the ULM Warhawks. The Jaguars found themselves trailing 62-55 in the second half, but 11 straight points from Michael Flowers helped the Jags gain the lead for good and hold off ULM, winning 80-72. 29 of Flowers season high 34 points came in the second half, while the Warhawks were limited to just 26 points as a team in the second half. Sam Iorio collected 12 points, all in the first half. Rounding out the Jag's double figure scorers were Tyreke Locure and Kayo Goncalves with 10 points a piece. John Pettway tied a career high with 10 rebounds.
The Jags take on division leading Coastal Carolina in a Friday night Sun Belt showdown. Michael Flowers poured in 28 points. Tyreke Locure contributed 20 while also playing lockdown defense against one of the nation's leading scorers, holding Devante Jones to 10 points, well under his average of 22 per game.
