Via YES Network Jazz Chisholm Makes History with Four Homers in First Three Games for Yankees Jazz Chisholm etched his name in the record books on Tuesday night, becoming the first New York Yankees player to hit four home runs in his first three games with the team. Chisholm's historic performance powered the Yankees to a thrilling 7-6 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies, marking their first four-game winning streak since early June. Chisholm, recently acquired from Miami, dazzled with five RBI in the game, starting with an RBI grounder in the first inning. He then launched a solo homer in the sixth off Aaron Nola and followed up with a three-run blast in the seventh against Matt Strahm, putting the Yankees ahead 5-4. This marks Chisholm’s second two-homer game in three outings with the Yankees, after having only three such performances in 405 games with Miami. He is also the first player in MLB history to have two multi-homer games in his first three games with any franchise. The game was filled with dramatic moments, including a wild pitch by Clay Holmes that allowed Josh Rojas to tie the game in the ninth. Alex Verdugo's sacrifice fly in the 11th put the Yankees ahead, but Austin Hays leveled the score again with an RBI single. Trent Grisham’s diving catch on Alec Bohm’s liner in the bottom of the 11th kept the game tied, leading to Gleyber Torres' decisive sacrifice fly in the 12th, marking his sixth go-ahead RBI in extra innings of his career. Michael Tonkin (4-4) secured the win for the Yankees, striking out two in a perfect bottom half. The Phillies, now on their third three-game losing streak this season, have dropped 10 of their last 14 games. Aaron Nola, who started for the Phillies, now has a 2.93 ERA (10 ER, 30.2 IP) against the Yankees in five career starts. Among the 17 teams Nola has faced for at least 30 innings, his ERA against the Yankees ranks fourth, trailing Detroit (1.38), St. Louis (2.56), and Milwaukee (2.76). Austin Hays clubbed his first home run with the Phillies, his first career homer batting ninth in the order, and the first three-run home run by a Phillies nine-hole hitter this season. Hays, who now has 10 homers against the Yankees, also tied the game in the 11th inning with his second career extra-inning RBI. Alec Bohm extended his on-base streak to 18 games, tying his season high. During this streak, Bohm is slashing .283/.394/.400. Will Warren made his MLB debut for the Yankees, filling in for Gerrit Cole, and allowed four runs on four hits over 5 1/3 innings. Bohm and Hays contributed offensively for the Phillies, with Bohm hitting an RBI double and Hays a three-run homer. The Phillies' bullpen saw Carlos Estévez extend his scoreless streak to 19 innings, while Mark Leiter Jr., newly acquired from the Chicago Cubs, pitched a scoreless 10th inning for the Yankees. Aaron Nola now has a 2.93 ERA (10 ER, 30.2 IP) against the Yankees in five career starts. Of the 17 teams Nola has thrown at 30.0 innings against, his ERA against the Yankees ranks fourth, trailing Detroit (1.38), St. Louis (2.56) and Milwaukee (2.76). • Austin Hays clubbed his first home run with the Phillies. It was his first career homer batting ninth in the order, and it was the first threerun home run by a Phillies nine-hole hitter this season (last: Garrett Stubbs on 9/27/23 vs PIT). Hays now has 10 homers against the Yankees in his career. Toronto (11 homers) is the only other team he has hit at least 10 home runs against. • Hays’ RBI in the bottom of the 11th inning was the second of his career in extra innings to tie the game (other: 5/20/22 vs TB). • Alec Bohm extended his on-base streak to 18 games, tying his season high from this season (4/16-5/5). Bohm is slashing .283/.394/.400 during his current streak. YANKEES NOTES • The Yankees won their first series in Philadelphia since June 25-27, 2018. They are now 3-6 in extra-inning games and 12-14 in one-run games. • Will Warren became the third Yankees pitcher to make his MLB debut this season, joining Clayton Beeter and Josh Maciejewski. He is the first Yankees pitcher since Luis Gil (6.0 IP and 6 SO in 2021) to pitch at least 5.1 innings and have at least six strikeouts in his MLB debut. • Jazz Chisholm Jr. has homered twice in back-to-back games for the first time in his career. The last Yankee to do so was Gio Urshela from Aug. 7-8, 2019. He is the first Yankee in franchise history to hit four home runs in his first three games with the team. The only other player to do so for a franchise in MLB history is Trevor Story (2016) with Colorado. Chisholm Jr. is also the first player in MLB history to have two multi-homer games in his first three games with any franchise. • Tonight was Chisholm Jr.’s fifth career multi-home run game and his first game with at least five RBI since he had six RBI on June 7, 2022, against Washington. #MLB #Yankees #Phillies #JazzChisholm #GleyberTorres #Baseball #NYvsPHI #AaronNola #AustinHays #AlecBohm
