Norwich were the visitors to St. Andrews on Saturday for the Championship opener against Birmingham City which ended in late heartbreak for BCFC. This match completely summarises the Blues. It's joys and sorrows. Jubilation, heartbreak, jubilation, heartbreak. It's a roller coaster! Jacques Maghoma opened the scoring in the second half, with his first shot being blocked, he took another strike instantly after and hammered home off the inside of the crossbar. Norwich replied, and it looked like it was going to be a draw until Viv Solomon-Otobar made an instant impact from the bench, putting us 2-1 up with just injury time to go. It wasn't to be though, as Hernandez slotted home after a quick Norwich break - leaving us feeling like we've lost the game. All in all, it was a positive performance though, and we have to keep our heads up and focus on the next game - a tough trip to Middlesbrough. Messi began the scoring after just 14 minutes, scoring a beauty of a goal which must have taken a mountain of pressure from his shoulders. It ended Argentina 2-1 Nigeria, meaning Nigeria were knocked out of Russia 2018 World Cup at the group stages. Joining them were Iceland, Peru, and Austrailia whom all showed glimmers of ability but couldn't do enough in their group games to make it to the knockout matches. It's certainly a 180 from our last World Cup talk, where we thought Argentina and Messi were getting knocked out! Diego Maradona also seems to be trying to steal the headlines with some crazy behaviour from the stands! With Ipswich announcing before the game that Mick McCarthy would be leaving in the summer, their players seemed to lack the urgency and motivation needed to get something from the game. For the Blues, however, our players look inspired since the change in management. Can we push on and steer ourselves to safety now? St. Andrew's Stadium: BCFC 1-4 HTFC. 06/02/2018 Huddersfield Town travelled to St. Andrew's in the replay of the FA Cup 4th Round match after a 1-1 draw just over a week ago. We played well and held them for 90 minutes, but extra time was too much for us, and in the end the scoreline didn't reflect how well we played throughout the game. So there's no Manchester United fixture to look forward to, but we've got a huge game on Sunday against Villa. If we can beat them, don't care what happens this season! St Andrew's Stadium: BCFC 3-1 SAFC. 30/01/2018 With the likes of Gallagher, Davis, Maghoma and more rested for the FA Cup game against Huddersfield, we were ready to go against Sunderland and showed why we can stay up. The Blues didn't get off to the best of starts, but we soon managed to link up well through the likes of Maghoma - who is having a great run of form, and cruise to victory against Sunderland. It's not often you see us score 3 goals! Hopefully we can push on now with two big away days against Sunderland and Villa, along with a replay against Huddersfield which has Manchester United at home as the reward in the next round. Deepdale, 20/01/2018: PNE 1-1 BCFC The Blues travelled to Deepdale on a cold Saturday, with over 2000 BCFC fans following them. Great away support again for the blues and the players did us proud. Birmingham City could have easily got all 3 points, but most fans would have been happy taking a point away from home. Hopefully we can build on this fairly good form and pull ourselves out of this relegation battle. Preston hit us early, again, and that seems to be one of our flaws - early goals and silly defensive errors. I'm not convinced by Marc Roberts at the minute, but I hope he can prove me wrong. We need him to become a reliable, consistent player - maybe he can take a leaf out of Harlee Dean's book. St Andrews, 13/01/2018: BCFC 0-3 DCFC After a run of 3 consecutive wins and clean sheets for the Blues, we're back to reality as Gary Rowett's Derby County visited St Andrews. Birmingham City's performance wasn't a bad one, but we didn't get the rub of the green and it felt like it was down to whoever got the first goal. After Jonathan Grounds had hit the post, Derby scored quite a fortuitous goal through Johnny Russell. Form there, Rowett's team could wait for opportunities to hit us on the break, which they did clinically. Steve Cotterill has again come under criticism for his substitutions, in the fact that they were too little too late. Jota should have come on early in the second half, not with 7 minutes to play. The blues keep right on and head to Deepdale on Saturday as we look to bounce back against Preston North End. The blues were visited by Norwich on Boxing Day and we handed them a late Christmas presents of 3 points, gift wrapped with a bow on top. They were not at their best, and again, just like many other teams that we have played this season, didn't have to be to beat us.
