100 Mile Ultra! Running First Ever Hundred Mile Race! Facing Fears. Racing 100 Miles (plus parkrun!)

After running 5 marathons in 5 days, then almost running a 5km PB 5 days later, I realised that I was in good shape. I was expecting to have niggles or extreme fatigue from the 5 in 5 but I felt great! In my head I have 2 long term running goals: 1) To join the hundred marathon club. 2) To run 100 miles. I had half an eye on a race in October where I could attempt to run 100 miles but I knew of a Punk Panther race that was coming up and realised I could attempt 100 miles sooner if I entered it last minute! I entered with just over a week to go and scrambled round to try to arrange a support crew. Part of the race route ran on the Leeds-Liverpool Canal in the early hours of Saturday morning so we'd been advised to arrange Night Safety Runners to make those areas more safe. Additionally there was only 1 checkpoint in the first 50 miles so we would need some sort of support to provide us with, at a minimum, water. I found 3 wonderful Hyde Park Harriers (Damian, Jonny and Chris) who were prepared to give up a night's sleep to support me. I was so appreciative and overwhelmed by this as I didn't even know Damian and Jonny! There are some wonderful people in the world! Al also agreed to support me for the first leg so I was set. I might have to run through cow fields in the dark but I wouldn't be doing it alone! At 5pm on Friday 15th April, I set off from Malham Tarn to attempt to complete my first ever 100 mile race!
