Carolina Panthers vs Dallas Cowboys: NFL Week 4 Preview
Carolina Panthers vs Dallas Cowboys: NFL Week 4 Preview

FRISCO, Texas – With an impressive 41-21 win over the Philadelphia Eagles, the Dallas Cowboys improved to 2-1 and sit atop the NFC East. The Cowboys exploited the Eagles’ two-high shell with 160 yards on the ground from their one-two punch of Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard. Dallas played a complementary football game with the defense notching two takeaways. The Cowboys will look to carry the momentum against the undefeated Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Here are some storylines for both teams entering Sunday’s NFC showdown. Panthers The Panthers are coming off a 24-9 victory against the Houston Texans in Week 3 and will once again head to Texas to face the Cowboys. Despite the win, Carolina lost two key playmakers on both sides of the football. The team’s featured back, Christian McCaffrey, strained his hamstring in the second quarter and the club’s 2021 first-round pick Jaycee Horn broke multiple bones in his foot and will be placed on IR. Without McCaffrey, the team’s primary workhorse on the ground and his dynamic pass-catching ability, more stress with fall on quarterback Sam Darnold. Rookie running back Chuba Hubbard totaled 79 yards in Week 3, and he will look to mirror that performance against Dallas to create favorable matchups on the outside for weapons like D.J. Moore. To help solidify the cornerback position with Horn’s absence, the Panthers acquired C.J. Henderson from the Jaguars for a third-round pick and tight end Dan Arnold. Henderson is expected to make his debut against America’s Team. Carolina will arrive at AT&T Stadium with the top-ranked defense in the NFL. The Panthers are allowing just 191 yards-per-game, a byproduct of Phil Snow’s penetrating defensive front. Snow utilizes exotic fronts and creative pressures, centered around the athleticism of Haason Reddick and Brian Burns. The Panthers lead the league with 14 sacks, curtesy of Reddick (4.5) and Burns (three). Their explosive get-offs have consistently harassed opposing quarterbacks. Winning the battle in the trenches will be critical for the Cowboys’ offensive line on Sunday. “They’re really crowding the ball, getting off the ball, a lot of activity,” Mike McCarthy told D210SPORTS on Carolina’s pass rush. “We got to make sure we know these guys. They’re playing with good juice.” Cowboys Dak Prescott’s command at the line of scrimmage and quick release has created the team’s favorable tempo. He posted a 143.3 passer rating against the Eagles, but the Cowboys ability to establish the run in the previous two games has factored into their two wins. Against the Chargers’ light box, Kellen Moore dialed up a perimeter-based attack to get Pollard in space. His shiftiness and ability to elude tackles carved up L.A.’s defense. A week later against the Eagles, the team found success with a downhill rushing attack that maximized Elliott’s power through tackles. Elliott is tied for the league lead with three rushing touchdowns and Pollard has eclipsed the 60-yard marker in the Cowboys past two games. With the number of playmakers on the Cowboys’ offense, defenses will have to pick their poison. Dallas has scored on the opening drive in each of the past two games. Prescott noted “starting fast” against the Panthers will be pivotal. The Cowboys lead the league in takeaways (8) and are tied for the lead in turnover differential (+5), largely due to Trevon Diggs’ impact in the secondary. Diggs has three interceptions in three games that has spearheaded the defense’s turnaround under Dan Quinn. Rookies Micah Parsons and Osa Odighizuwa have contributed to the revamped unit. Each week, the defense’s relentless pursuit of the football is on full display. Parsons rare closing speed and Odighizuwa’s quick first-step have wreaked havoc on offenses. They will play a key role in disrupting Darnold and getting him off his spot.

The Iron Skillet Stays In Dallas As SMU Beats TCU 42-34
The Iron Skillet Stays In Dallas As SMU Beats TCU 42-34

FORT WORTH, TX – A poor TCU (2-1) performance leads to a 42-34 loss in Fort Worth this afternoon to SMU (4-0). The battle for the Iron Skillet ends in a victory for the Mustangs and the skillet will remain in Dallas. TCU took their first loss of the season and it all started with their defense. The defense was nowhere to be found in the first quarter, let alone the rest of the game. Both teams combined for 28 points in the first seven minutes of the game and it all started with SMU’s 68-yard rushing touchdown by Danny Gray. The Mustangs scored in the first 50 seconds of the game and it didn’t end there. TCU was not the only one that didn’t show up to play defense in the first quarter. Four minutes after SMU’s quick touchdown, Kendre Miller ran the ball in for a 20-yard TCU touchdown putting TCU on top by one. SMU’s offense comes back out for another incredible series. They started the series out with a 46-yard run by Tra Siggers to the TCU 29. Tanner Mordecai handed the ball to Siggers yet again and he ran for another 10-yards. At the 4-yard line Mordecai took care of the rest and ran in for a 4-yard touchdown. They finished the series off with a successful two point conversion from Terrance Newman. And the offense continued to rally for both teams, TCU got the ball back and Duggan drilled a 60-yard pass to Taye Barber. Darius Davis finishes it off with a 13-yard rushing touchdown tying the game 14-14 with seven minutes remaining in the first quarter. All that scoring and we still had half of the first quarter left to go. TCU’s defense finally comes to life after Dee Winters interception at the 47-yard line on SMU’s third down and the momentum for the defense started to pick up after that. That was Mordecai’s first interception of the season. TCU got the ball back at the 47-yard line and Zach Evans was ready to rumble. Evans ran for 27-yards. The Horned Frogs came up short for the first down and were forced to kick a field goal. The 38-yard field goal was unsuccessful. TCU’s defense stopped SMU the next two series and TCU’s offense started to kick up. Evans had a 46-yard touchdown with 13:30 left in the half putting TCU on top 21-14. And once again TCU’s defense let everyone down. Mordecai hits a wide open Reggie Roberson Jr for a 29-yard touchdown and just like that it’s all tied up again. Both teams went into the half break even at 21-21. SMU came out of the half and did not led up one bit. The Mustangs took advantage of Duggan’s fumble at the 3-yard line and scored a touchdown going up 28-21. TCU answered with a field goal, making the score 28-24 with 10:40 minutes remaining in the game. There was still a lot of game time left and TCU still had life. That changed quickly. SMU went on to score two more touchdowns and TCU scored one. SMU’s rush offense was the difference in this game. The Mustangs ran for 350 total yards. They were led by Ulysses Bentley IV with 153 yards rushing and Tre Siggers with 110 yards rushing. SMU ended the day with 595 yards of total offense and TCU ended the night with 446 total yards of offense. Defense was the name of the game today, and TCU did not come out ready to play. The Horned Frogs will be back in Amon G. Carter Stadium next Saturday to take on the Texas Longhorns. Kickoff is set for 11:00 A.M. and will be televised on ABC. KEY PLAYERS : TCU : Max Duggan converted 16 of 28 passes for 276 yards for three touchdowns. Zach Evans led with 113 yards rushing for 15 carries. Taye Barber led with 110 yards receiving for 5 catches and 1 touchdown. SMU : Tanner Mordecai converted on 17 of 28 passes for 245 yards for four touchdowns and one rushing touchdown. Ulysses Bentley IV led with 153 yards rushing for 20 carries and one touchdown. Tre Siggers had 110 yards rushing for 18 carries. Danny Gray led with 153 yards receiving for 4 catches and a touchdown.

ICYMI: TCU Rolls Duquesne In 45-3 Win In Season Opener
ICYMI: TCU Rolls Duquesne In 45-3 Win In Season Opener

FORT WORTH, TX – TCU shows a promising future for the 2021-22 football season after defeating Duquesne 45-3 in the season opener on Saturday night. The First drive of the night for the Frogs ended in Quarterback Max Duggan running the ball for a touchdown. Duggan’s ability to run the ball has been the talk of the town during preseason. His legs give him an extra variable, making him a big threat on the field. The next two touchdowns in the first quarter for TCU were made by running back Emari Demercado and Zach Evans. Evans’ touchdown came from a pick from the TCU’s secondary, Tre’Vius Hodges-Tomlinson, who is expected to have a fantastic year for the Horned Frogs. With two minutes left in the first quarter, Joe Mischlerr, Duquesne’s quarterback, goes down due to a big hit from defensive end Oshawn Mathis. An already struggling Duquesne team was forced to rely on their second string quarterback for the remainder of the game. TCU’s defense shut down Duquesne in the first quarter. Keeping the Dukes at 15 total offensive yards. Frogs led 21-0 at the end of the first. The score continued to add as the second quarter got underway. Max Duggan threw his first interception after completing a 48 yard throw the previous play giving Duquesne their first stop of the night. The offense was not phased and went on to score two more touchdowns by running back Kendre Miller and wide receiver Derius Davis making it a 35-0 lead going into the half. Going into the locker room Duggan went 14/19 and threw for 207 yards. TCU’s defense did not led up. They sent Duquesne into the locker room with 0 pasing yards at the half. Coming out of the half, Duquesne showed some grit in the third quarter. The first play Darius Perrantes throws for 37 yards to get the Dukes in field goal range. They came up short of a touchdown and settled for three points. The Dukes got on the board for the first time with 8:19 left in the third quarter. The Dukes defense stopped the Horned Frogs in the third quarter and TCU only scored a field goal. TCU went into the fourth quarter up 38-3. TCU scored another touchdown with second string quarterback Matthew Downing to finish off the game with a 45-3 victory. Head coach Gary Patterson said, “He liked what he saw on offense but they got some work to do before competing against Cal’s defense next Saturday.” Teamwork was the name of the game tonight. All six touchdowns were made by six different Horned Frogs. Along with the offense, TCU’s defense was a sight to see tonight as well. The Horned Frogs held Duquesne to 137 total yards on offense. TCU’s season starts off with four home games. The Horned Frogs will be back in Fort Worth next Saturday for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff against California. STATS : TCU totaled 253 passing yards and 178 rushing yards. Totaling 431 yards of total offense. KEY PLAYERS : Max Duggan threw for 207 yards with 14/19 completions, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. Kendre Miller led with 70 rushing yards on 8 carries and 2 touchdowns. Derius Davis led with 57 receiving yards.

QB Tanner Mordecai Had An SMU Record 7 TD Passes In The 56-9 Win Over Abilene Christian University

DALLAS, Texas — Saturday Night SMU hosted ACU in the first home game of the college football season which resulted in a blowout! The Mustangs trampled the Wild Cats 56-9 making them 1-0 and starting the season off strong. SMU Quarterback Tanner Mordecai certainly was the start of tonight's game. Mordecai had an outstanding game, completing 24-30 passes and record night with 7 touchdowns. Tanner also had some stand out wide receivers that kept those chains moving such as Grant Calcaterra who had 51 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns. Followed by Danny Gray who had 72 rushing yards and also 2 touchdowns. The Junior quarterback earned his starting spot tonight and stated, “ It felt great to know I was the starting quarterback, I expected it, but honestly being named team captain meant more to me than anything.” Head Coach Sonny Dykes said, “ It felt good to be back out there. We played hard and executed well, overall it was a great game.” Dykes also stated he thought Mordecai played well. He never panicked, made great plays, and took care of the ball.” SMU will be back home next Saturday September 11th, to take on North Texas.

Dallas Cowboys vs Houston Texans | Copper Rush 10/12, 94, Yds, 2 Tds
Dallas Cowboys vs Houston Texans | Copper Rush 10/12, 94, Yds, 2 Tds

ARLINGTON, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys fell to their instate rival, the Houston Texans, 20-14 at AT&T Stadium on Saturday night. Household names Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott and DeMarcus Lawrence got the night off for Dallas but the rest of the first team on offense and defense received playing time. The game served as a dress rehearsal for the regular season. Not a conclusive test for what is expected when the Sunday lights come on, but the closest glimpse at the squad in a competitive game exhibition that fans have seen with almost a full cast of starters suiting up in Arlington. Here are some key takeaways from the meeting: Defensive starters may have been on the field in the first half apart from Lawrence, but the biggest headline came during the first quarter. It was announced over the speaker that defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and starting defensive tackle Carlos Watkins left the stadium early “out of an abundance of caution” in accordance with the NFL’s COVID-related protocols. 90 minutes prior to kickoff, Watkins entered the protocol and Quinn followed suit. “There’s a number of steps that are part of the protocol,” Mike McCarthy described to media following the game. “So, with that, we’ll continue to move forward. We’re just being extremely cautious and will do so moving forward.” Secondary coach/passing game coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. took over the play-calling duties from the booth. In a normal gameday setting, Whitt sits in the row behind Quinn in the box and the upgraded position was a result of an “easy transition” given the time limitation, according to McCarthy. The staff did not have to move anyone else into the booth and an opportunity presented itself for Whitt to take charge. Both Quinn and Watkins will be further evaluated today in Frisco and additional details will be reported as information is disclosed. If either or both must miss time, Dallas will face a major setback. Players are still adjusting to Quinn’s scheme and familiarizing themselves with the playbook. The unit feeds off his energy and hands-on approach daily. As a first-year coordinator in Dallas, Quinn has got the players to buy into his scheme and has been able to maximize individual strengths. However, his absence would present a halt in the otherwise ascending defensive unit. Watkins has received first-team reps on defense at the one-technique spot throughout camp. With Neville Gallimore, a presumed starting three-technique, out for 6-8 weeks after sustaining an elbow dislocation, the team is already thinner at defensive tackle. They are missing one starter in the interior and adding another to the mix would be challenging. Watkins adds a veteran presence next to Osa Odighizuwa, the rookie out of UCLA who has received first-team reps at the three-technique spot in Gallimore’s absence. Executive vice president Stephen Jones said earlier in the week on local radio show 105.3 The Fan that there is an open competition between Cooper Rush and Garrett Gilbert for the No. 2 backup role behind Dak Prescott. Gilbert has been the predominant front runner throughout camp and laughter may have followed Jones’ declaration, but Saturday proved the contrary. After two unproductive series led by Gilbert, Rush came in and turned the tide. He led the Cowboys to the end zone for the first time and finished the first half completing 10-of-12 attempts for 97 yards and two touchdowns. An impressive performance for Rush and one that certainly put him ahead in the battle. In contrast, Gilbert had the ball stripped on the offense’s second snap of the ballgame and the Texans capitalized with a touchdown. Every week, Rush looks more comfortable in the pocket and the result speaks for itself. He will have another chance to bypass Gilbert on the depth chart. McCarthy noted in his post game press conference that there is one more week left in preseason, and the staff “needs it” in order to continue evaluations. Both Rush and Gilbert battling it out will be the focal point for viewers against the Jaguars. Turnover woes continue for offense: Mike McCarthy’s frank statement after the game is a perfect summary of the second half. Ben DiNucci took over the reins at quarterback in the third quarter and to say he struggled is an understatement. He completed 14-of-19 passes for 120 yards but threw three interceptions. Not a winning formula. 17 of the Texans’ 20 points came off Cowboys’ turnovers. The self-inflicted wounds continue, and McCarthy has seen enough, much like the fan base. The defense did their part- limiting Houston to 220 total offensive yards and did not allow a single third down conversion on 10 attempts. The defense played with high effort and relentlessly pursued the football, but the offense did them no favors. Preseason is the time to work out the kinks and taking care of the football is the number one priority. As Prescott likes to say, “ball security is job security.” #DallasCowboys #HoustonTexans #CooperRush
