Broadening your horizons. After a long season of guiding, myself (Mike Kirkpatrick) and Hans Kreuer, felt the usual urge to get out on a road trip and catch a few ourselves. This time though, the pull to explore something completely new was irresistible, and a plan was made to head to the deep South of New Zealand's South Island. What a trip it was too, with a relaxed and and carefree attitude, combining with some breathtaking angling to be a trip for the ages. Fish were caught on small dries, emergers, heavy nymphs and even a crazy selection of big colorful nymphs of all sizes and shapes. Enjoy and please feel free to comment - i'll do my best to reply. Fly fishing NZ - 'A Day To Remember'
Join myself (Mike Kirkpatrick) and mate, on a long day trip away from our home base at the top of New Zealands South Island. It's sunny, and with no other anglers about, we chase big brown trout on this early season day with a degree of confidence in finding a few... We find some indeed and the quality of fish is welcome for so early in spring.
