Northampton Saints thrash Timisoara 111 3 and score 17 TRIES in Challenge Cup

Subscribe to our channel: https://goo.gl/pqS0mLNorthampton Saints thrash Timisoara 111-3 and score 17 TRIES in Challenge Cup. It is one of the longest away trips in European rugby this season, but Timisoara Saracens' 1,336-mile journey to Northampton will have felt nowhere near as long as their time on the Franklin's Gardens pitch. On Friday night the Romanian minnows were obliterated 111-3 by the Saints as the Premiership side racked up 17 tries and recorded their biggest-ever European victory.  When the teams were supposed to meet for the first time in December the match was abandoned 30 minutes before kick-off due to heavy snow. This time the elements could not save the visitors. Ollie Sleightholme grabbed four tries, Alex Mitchell completed a hat-trick, Mitch Eadie went over twice and Alex Coles marked his European debut with a score as the hosts saw 11 different players run in tries during the demolition job. Saints had secured their bonus point as early as the 23rd minute at Franklin's Gardens with Luther Burrell, Reece Marshall, Rory Hutchinson and all going over in quick succession.  Timisoara made it onto the scoreboard with a penalty after 11 minutes from Luke Samoa but they barely advanced into Saints territory as the hosts ran riot. Andrew Kellaway, Lewis Ludlam, Nafi Tuitavake and Tom Collins also scored tries for a rampant Saints team as they secured their place in the quarter-finals from pool one.   Victory keeps Saints' hopes of repeating their 2014 Challenge Cup win alive as they  made it through to the knockout stages of the competition on their first attempt back.  Remarkably Saints assistant coach Matt Ferguson insisted after the game that there was still some disappointment in the team's attacking performance. He told BBC Radio Northampton: 'We will have some frustration that our accuracy was not as good as it should have been. 'There is a difference between relentlessness and accuracy, so the will to want to carry, the will to want to play is different to keeping the ball. 'We just felt a little bit, on occasions, that some people got a little excited and took that extra yard too many. The best tries today came from when we played our patterns.'   Clermont Auvergne’s 49-7 victory over the Dragons ensured they finished top of pool one with six wins from six. Fellow Premiership side Harlequins also joined them in the last eight with a 33-17 win over Agen.

Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa's incredible spygate press conference full transcr ipt

Subscribe to our channel: https://goo.gl/pqS0mLLeeds manager Marcelo Bielsa's incredible spygate press conference full transcript. Marcelo Bielsa held an unscheduled press conference on Wednesday evening following the 'spygate' incident involving Derby County. Rather than resigning, as many thought he might, he spent 70 minutes explaining the extent of his staff's tactical analysis and going through, in painstaking detail, what he knew about Derby. Sportsmail has pulled together a brief breakdown of the key moments from the press conference and provided a full transcript of what Bielsa said. THE BREAKDOWN  1. He has had spies at every opponent's training ground this season Bielsa: 'I observed all rivals we played against. We watched all the training sessions before we played them.' 2. His staff spend over 200 hours analysing every team Leeds play against Bielsa: 'Of each opponent we watched all the games of 2018-19 - we watched the 51 games of Derby County. The analysis of each game takes four hours of work - why did we do that? Because we think it is professional behaviour.' 3. He has files on every aspect of opposing players and teams – right down to the number of minutes they have played in each position Bielsa: 'I might not be able to speak English but I can speak about the 24 teams of the Championship. Derby have played 4-3-3 49.9 per cent of the season... we use this to understand the system and why and when they change the system during a game.' 4. Even Pep Guardiola was impressed – having been handed a Bielsa dossier on Barcelona while he was Nou Camp boss Bielsa: 'Guardiola had a look at it and he told me 'you know more about Barcelona than me'.' 5. Leeds play Stoke this weekend… so he's watched every game of new manager Nathan Jones' former club Luton 'As we're going to play against Stoke, it's hard to analyse them with a new head coach. So we analyse the 26 games he played with Luton and the structures he used' FULL TRANSCRIPT  I called this press conference because we have the classic press conference before playing Stoke City. And I thought the spy matter would take time I would like to dedicate to the game. My goal regarding this situation of which I am the only one responsible. I wouldn’t like to mix it with the games and the play. And if you allow me I would like to make a summary of what happened. It’s about watching from a public space an activity that is realised in a private space without the agreement with the goal of both gaining sports advantage and hurting the fair play. I already said I was the only one responsible for this situation. The club is not responsible whatsoever and nobody on my staff is responsible for it. The person who did that followed my orders and I am the only one responsible. Many people made an opinion on my behaviour. Many expressing, condemning the behaviour, saying that it was not ethical, that it was immoral. That it was violating of affecting fair play. That it was cheating. This club thought it was obliged to present public excuses to Derby County. And I was publicly told that my behaviour was not respecting the principles of integrity which is the basis of the club. Many managers, ex-footballers and footballers thought my behaviour was respectfulness. The last point of this situation is that the league after a complaint made by Derby County decided to open an investigation on my behaviour. So they will evaluate if I behaved bad and if my behaviour affected the prestige of the club or the league. One other point I would like to talk about is that I’m going to make it easier for the investigation of the league. I’m going to give the information it needs and I assume the fact that my behaviour is heard from the most extreme position. In a few words I can tell you we observed all the rivals we played against and we watched all the training sessions of the opponents before we played against the. My goal is to make the

Angelique Kerber beats Beatriz Haddad Maia in straight sets to reach Australian Open third

Subscribe to our channel: https://goo.gl/pqS0mLAngelique Kerber beats Beatriz Haddad Maia in straight sets to reach Australian Open third round. German second seed Angelique Kerber easily won the battle of left-handers against big-hitting Brazilian qualifier Beatriz Haddad Maia 6-2 6-3 to stroll into the third round of the Australian Open on Wednesday. The Wimbledon champion broke the 22-year-old Haddad Maia twice in the opening set and converted her first set point when the Brazilian sent a forehand wide for her 29th unforced error in the set. Kerber, a triple Grand Slam champion who won in Melbourne in 2016, faced just one breakpoint in the match in the second set and converted her first opportunity in the eighth game to go 5-3 up and serve for the set. 'I think it was a good match from my side. I was trying to play aggressive from the first point until the last one, serving good, really focusing on the moment on court,' Kerber told reporters. 'I think I was playing good, especially in the second set, it was a little bit close.' The strongly-built six-feet tall Brazilian saved 10 breakpoints in the first set, six of them in the sixth game for a hold, and hit more winners than Kerber. However, she was undone by her erratic shot making. Haddad Maia cut down on her unforced errors in the second set and made Kerber work harder as the rallies grew longer. The second set went on serve till Kerber broke to go up when Haddad Maia sent a forehand wide. Another wide forehand groundstroke from the Brazilian gave Kerber the match on the Rod Laver Arena. 'She's also a lefty, so it's always a little bit different to play. Then she was serving good. She really hits the ball hard and tough,' Kerber added. 'So I was trying to get a lot of balls back. Also, like I said, being aggressive. I think she's a good player, she really played well.' Former world No 1 Kerber will next meet Australian wildcard Kimberly Birrell, who earlier ousted 29th seeded Donna Vekic 6-4 4-6 6-1, on Friday while also celebrating her 31st birthday. 'Maybe it's a good omen to play on my birthday,' Kerber said.

Glentoran were helped to an important win over Institute thanks to an incredible 70-yard goal from keeper Elliot Morris in the Northern Ireland Football League Irish Premiership. With just 10 minutes played, Morris lined up a free-kick midway inside his own half and proceeded to launch it over opposite number Martin Gallagher to open the scoring. It was Morris' first goal in 723 senior games as his side won 2-0 with a late Paul O'Neill goal sealing the points, but the 37-year-old insists the clean sheet was more important. Morris said: 'Its a bit surreal to tell you the truth. I'm more happy with the clean sheet if I'm brutally honest. 'I said to the boys at half-time, I don't care about the goal, lets get the clean sheet 'Thankfully the boys defended excellently and we managed to grind out the result.' Morris, who was previously on the books at West Brom before being released in 2002, insists he meant to have an effort on goal, to the shock of his team-mates.  He added: 'I looked up and I'd seen him on his 18-yard line and there was a bit of wind behind me. I basically put my foot through it and luckily it went in. 'It was just one of those things, off the cuff, I went for it and thankfully it went in. 'A few of the boys looked at me and asked "what are you doing?" and the next thing you know they are chasing after me, it was a bit surreal but it was good.  I've  only had three (clean sheets) all season.  It has been a tough season with a good start and things took a massive dive. 'Today we got a positive result and hopefully it continues.'  The win means Glentoran are eighth in the 12-team league, while Institute are one place and five points ahead having played a game more.

Gloucester 15 41 Munster Joey Carbery scores 26 points as visitors register thumping win

Subscribe to our channel: https://goo.gl/pqS0mLGloucester 15-41 Munster: Joey Carbery scores 26 points as visitors register thumping win . Munster took a giant step towards the Heineken Champions Cup quarter-finals and dumped Gloucester out of Europe by crushing them 41-15 at Kingsholm. Fly-half Joey Carbery ran the show, bumping his opposite number Danny Cipriani off centre-stage through a brilliant 26-point haul that included two tries. Centre Rory Scannell and wings Keith Earls and Andrew Conway also touched down, although there was a possible concern for Ireland boss Joe Schmidt ahead of the Six Nations when Munster captain Peter O'Mahony went off nursing what appeared to be a rib injury just after half-time. Gloucester managed tries by wing Ollie Thorley and prop Fraser Balmain, plus a Billy Twelvetrees penalty and conversion, yet they remain bottom of Pool Two after Munster opened up an eight-point lead at the top. And the Irish heavyweights, who claimed a five-point maximum from their west country victory, will be guaranteed a place in the last eight if they beat current Gallagher Premiership leaders Exeter in Limerick next Saturday. Cipriani returned after missing Gloucester's last three games due to a chest injury suffered in the Champions Cup home defeat against Exeter, while Thorley also featured and Franco Mostert switched from lock to blindside flanker. Munster head coach Johann Van Graan, meanwhile, made a number of changes from the side that beat Guinness PRO14 opponents Connacht last weekend, including starts for Scannell, Mike Haley and Dave Kilcoyne. Kingsholm was packed to the rafters, including a sizeable Munster contingent, and Gloucester made a bright start as they dominated early territory before their opponents sought a foothold. Twelvetrees opened the scoring with a 45-metre penalty after 14 minutes, but Munster began to exert pressure through scrum-half Conor Murray's exemplary tactical kicking, and Carbery booted an equalising penalty six minutes later. It proved the start of a 13-point scoring burst in seven minutes, with Munster exerting relentless pressure through number eight CJ Stander's tackle-breaking running, and Gloucester ran out of defensive numbers as Carbery crossed for a try that he also converted. And even when Gloucester infringed close to halfway, there was no escape from Carbery as he kicked another penalty to open up a 10-point lead for his team and send warning signals flashing around Kingsholm. But matters continued to deteriorate for Gloucester, and they were stung by a second Munster try during the dying moments of a one-sided first half. With Murray expertly calling the shots, Munster went through numerous phases of patient build-up play before Scannell brushed aside Gloucester wing Charlie Sharples' weak challenge to touch down. Carbery added the conversion to put Munster almost out of sight at the break, leading by 17 points and aiming to take a vice-like grip on their qualifying group. Gloucester had to score first in the second period, and they duly obliged following a punishing passage of play after O'Mahony went off. Munster were forced into a prolonged rearguard action as Gloucester went through 35 phases before Cipriani's long floated pass found an unmarked Thorley, who continued his rich vein of form by crossing unopposed. Twelvetrees missed the angled conversion attempt, but no sooner had Gloucester given themselves a glimmer of hope than Munster ruthlessly snuffed it out when replacement back-row forward Billy Holland delivered a brilliant off-load to Earls, who dived over. Conway then unluckily saw a try disallowed following a forward pass by centre Chris Farrell, but Munster were home and dry, even before Conway crossed and Carbery claimed an interception score to compound Gloucester's misery, with Carbery also contributing five conversions and two pen

Southampton striker Charlie Austin hit with two match ban for 'offensive gesture' in Man City
Southampton striker Charlie Austin hit with two match ban for 'offensive gesture' in Man City

Subscribe to our channel: https://goo.gl/pqS0mLSouthampton striker Charlie Austin hit with two-match ban for 'offensive gesture' in Man City loss. Southampton striker Charlie Austin has been given a two-match suspension by the Football Association. The 29-year-old was charged after appearing to gesture towards the Manchester City fans as he was substituted in Southampton's 3-1 defeat at St Mary's on December 30. Austin admitted the FA charge in relation to the gesture and will now miss the Saints' Premier League clash with Leicester and their FA Cup replay against Derby. 'Southampton's Charlie Austin has been suspended for two matches with immediate effect following an independent regulatory commission hearing today,' the FA statement read. 'The striker admitted his gesture in or around the 68th minute of the game against Manchester City on 30 December 2018 was abusive and/or insulting.' Austin has featured in Southampton's last four matches in all competitions and has scored three goals for the Saints this season. His absence adds to manager Ralph Hasenhuttl's problems in attack, with Danny Ings and Michael Obafemi both set to miss the clash against Leicester with hamstring injuries.

Subscribe to our channel: https://goo.gl/pqS0mLLevante 2-1 Barcelona: Real Madrid loanee Borja Mayoral helps down Ernesto Valverde's weakened side. Philippe Coutinho kept Barcelona in the Copa del Rey with a penalty five minutes from time after they had been taken apart by Levante in the worst half of football they have played this season. Coutinho scored a late penalty after Arsenal target Denis Suarez had been brought down in the area by Levante defender Coke. Barcelona were stunned inside the first four minutes when Erick Cabaco headed in Ruben Rochina's free-kick to make it 1-0.  Levante (4-4-2): Fernandez; Coke, Chema (Jason 69), Postigo, Cabaco; Simon, Prcic, Campana, Rochina (Doukoure 75); Mayoral, Boateng (Morales 62); Subs not used: Koke, Tono, Lopez, Dwamena   Scorers: Cabaco (4), Mayoral (18) Booked: Prcic, Cabaco, Mayoral Barcelona (4-3-3): Cillessen; Semedo, Murillo, Chumi (Lenglet 58), Miranda (Roberto 46); Busquets, Vidal, Alena; Malcom (D Suarez 67), Dembele, Coutinho; Subs not used: ter Stegen, Arthur, Puig, Wague Scorers: Coutinho (85) Booked: Murillo, Alena, Chumi, Busquets Levante mauled Barcelona's second string defence and they made it 2-0 on 18 minutes when 18-year-old left back Juan Miranda gave the ball away and Emmanuel Boateng slipped Borja Mayoral through.  The on-loan Real Madrid centre-forward didn't get the greatest first touch on the ball but he still managed to hook his foot around the ball and send it through Jeison Murillo's legs and past Jaspar Cillessen for 2-0.  Barcelona had been beaten by one goal set-up by one of their former B-team players, Rochina, and now by a Real Madrid loanee. They could easily have shipped three in that opening spell. Koke was able to skip along the byline and cross for Boateng and Cillessen saved point-blank to prevent the goal. Both Murillo and his central defensive partner the 19-year-old Juan Brandariz (Chumi) were booked too and they needed Sergio Busquets to come back and play between them in a three to add some security. Murillo raised some eyebrows when he was signed on loan this window having played only three times this season for Valencia. To partner him with the novice Brandariz and a teenage left-back was a gamble from Ernesto Valverde and it had not paid off. At the other end of the pitch Valverde had left Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi back in Barcelona and gone with Ousmane Dembele flanked by Malcom and Coutinho. The former Liverpool man struggled without Messi and Suarez to play off of.   (All first leg results from Thursday evening's matches) Athletic Bilbao 1-3 Sevilla Nolito, Andre Silva and Wissam Ben Yedder were all on target as Sevilla put one foot in the next round with a comfortable first-leg win on the road. Mikel San Jose scored Bilbao's goal. Real Betis 0-0 Real Sociedad The sides could not be separated at the Estadio Benito Villamarin on Thursday evening leaving the tie finely poised going into the second leg after a goalless stalemate. He gave the ball away early on but created chances for both Dembele and Malcom that were not taken. Malcom was doing as little for his long-term chances of staying in the team up front as Murillo was at the back. He was clean through on Aitor Fernandez with Barcelona's best chance but was unable to beat the keeper. On the stroke of half time Chema Rodriguez stuck his elbows out in the six-yard box as Levante had a late corner and both Cillesen and Busquets dramatically hit the deck – it seemed to sum up Barcelona's first half performance. In the second period they improved. The teenage defenders were substituted and Denis Suarez gave much needed spark in attack. When his mazy run ended in a penalty Coutinho was able to bring Barca back into the tie ahead of next week's second leg.
