The Dubuque Fighting Saints bounced back from back to back losses tonight by defeating the rival Waterloo Black Hawks to improve to 33-13-2 on the season and take the lead in the race for the Cowbell Cup. It was a physical, defensive battle for the majority of the contest that saw Aidan McCarthy record his second shutout of the season to help give the Fighting Saints the 3-0 victory.
Dubuque secured a point with a furious third period comeback but couldn’t get the extra point as Chicago scored in overtime for a 6-5 Steel win. Dubuque scored three in the third and Riese Gaber became the Saints Tier-1 goal scoring leader in the loss.
