The Dubuque Fighting Saints hit the road on Friday, and came away with two points. Robert Cronin’s shorthanded goal at the 12:52 mark of the third period was the go-ahead goal that ended the Chicago Steel’s comeback bid, as the Fighting Saints picked up the win 5-4 at the Fox Valley Ice Arena.
Buoyed by an 11-1 shot differential in the first period alone, and an offense that shot 17.2% on the day, the Dubuque Fighting Saints took an early lead and never looked back. The Saints took three of a possible six standings points on the weekend against the Eastern Conference’s top two clubs, and defeated the Gamblers 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at the Mystique Community Ice Center.
