- - Spoilers and other stuff down there - Brandon Saad scored his fourth goal in two games to help the Chicago Blackhawks defeat the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-1 at United Center on Saturday. It was the second win in a row for the Blackhawks (2-0-0), who defeated the defending champion Pittsburgh Penguins 10-1 in the season opener on Thursday. Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews each had a goal and assist, and Corey Crawford made 32 saves for Chicago. Saad was reacquired by the Blackhawks from the Blue Jackets in a trade for left wing Artemi Panarin on June 23.
- - Spoilers and other stuff down there - Tyler Bozak scored the tiebreaking goal at 7:17 of the third period, and the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the New York Rangers 8-5 at Air Canada Centre on Saturday. The Rangers challenged that the goal was offside but it was upheld upon review, and New York received a two-minute penalty. Leo Komarov scored on the power play to give Toronto a 7-5 lead at 9:52. Nazem Kadri made it 8-5 with a power-play goal at 18:30. The Maple Leafs (2-0-0) built a 5-1 first-period lead but the Rangers (0-2-0) scored three times in the second to tie it 5-5.
- - Spoilers and other stuff down there - Steven Stamkos assisted on the tiebreaking goal by Vladislav Namestnikov, and the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Florida Panthers 5-3 at Amalie Arena in the season opener for each team Friday. Ondrej Palat scored twice, and Brayden Point and Nikita Kucherov scored for Tampa Bay, which has won its past six home openers and is 16-7-0 with two ties in its 25 season openers.
- - Spoilers and other stuff down there - The Detroit Red Wings opened Little Caesars Arena with a 4-2 win against the Minnesota Wild on Thursday. After the Wild had two goals disallowed in the first period, Anthony Mantha scored on a power play at 14:40 of the second to give the Red Wings a 1-0 lead. "That was an awesome feeling," Mantha said. "All day, I had been thinking about how special it would be to get the first goal in this building, and then it happened."
- - Spoilers and other stuff down there - Matt Duchene had a goal and an assist, and Semyon Varlamov made 37 saves to help the Colorado Avalanche to a 4-2 win against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Thursday. It was Varlamov's first win since Dec. 11. He had season-ending hip surgery Jan. 26.
- - Spoilers and other stuff down there - The Boston Bruins knew they were going to lean on some rookies, they just didn't know they would do so as quickly as the season opener. Jake DeBrusk, Charlie McAvoy and Anders Bjork combined for five points in a 4-3 win against the Nashville Predators at TD Garden on Thursday. DeBrusk broke a 1-1 tie with his first NHL goal at 5:48 of the second period and had an assist. McAvoy, who played six games in the Stanley Cup Playoffs last season, scored his first NHL goal in his regular-season debut at 15:43 to make it 3-1. Bjork had an assist on DeBrusk's goal.
- - Spoilers and more stuff down there - Patrick Marleau scored two goals in his debut for the Toronto Maple Leafs in a 7-2 win against the Winnipeg Jets in the season opener at Bell MTS Place on Wednesday. Marleau, who spent the past 19 seasons with the San Jose Sharks before signing with the Maple Leafs, scored his 509th and 510th NHL goals. Nazem Kadri, James van Riemsdyk, William Nylander, Mitch Marner and Auston Matthews also scored for Toronto. Matthews and van Riemsdyk each had three points (one goal, two assists). Frederik Andersen made 35 saves, 17 in the first period.
