BBC pundit says £25k-a-week Celtic ace getting back his confidence. Celtic winger Scott Sinclair seems to have impressed Scott McDonald. Scott McDonald has told BBC Sport that Celtic winger Scott Sinclair’s confidence is coming back. The former Celtic star made the comments following the Hoops’ 2-1 win against RB Leipzig at Celtic Park in the Europa League on Thursday evening. The 29-year-old former Aston Villa winger started the match and played until injury time, as Brendan Rodgers’s side won 2-1. McDonald was impressed with the performance produced by the former Swansea City winger - who earns £25,000 per week as salary, according to The Daily Star. “When Scott Sinclair is positive and gets on the front foot, he's so good to watch,” McDonald told BBC Sport about Sinclair. “His confidence is coming back.” Praise for Ryan Christie Ryan Christie also featured in the match for Celtic against Leipzig, and the 23-year-old Scotland international midfielder played well for the Hoops. The former Inverness Caledonian Thistle ace has been playing well for the Glasgow giants in recent weeks. Former Scotland international central defender Willie Miller has spoken highly of Christie, and so has ex-Celtic goalkeeper Pat Bonner. Miller told BBC Sport: "Ryan Christie has been handed the chance through circumstances, through injuries, and he's come into the Celtic team and he's been outstanding. “Not just in playing in a Celtic team that's playing at a high level, but playing against quality opposition as well. “He's now really putting in performances that are saying to Brendan Rodgers, even if he's not going to be starting he's going to be a big part of his plans going forward.” Bonner told BBC Sport: “I think if Ryan Christie keeps performing like he did tonight, it's going to be very difficult for Brendan Rodgers to leave him out. The energy he put in, the runs tonight, that's what Stuart Armstrong used to do.” Celtic will return to action on Sunday afternoon when they take on Livingston away from home in the Scottish Premiership.
John Hartson reacts to Celtic's 2-1 win over RB Leipzig. Celtic have put themselves right in the mix to progress out of their Europa League group on a famous night at Parkhead. John Hartson has told BT Sport's live post-match coverage of Celtic's Europa League clash with RB Leipzig (broadcast on 08/11 from 20:00) that it was an outstanding performance from Brendan Rodgers' men and he could not single anybody out. The Hoops have put themselves in a fantastic position to potentially qualify out of their group as goals from Kieran Tierney and Odsonne Edouard helped the Scottish Premiership side claim a 2-1 win. It will surely go down as one of those famous nights at Parkhead as Celtic largely outplayed a team that seem to have sparked the Hoops into life by defeating them comfortably in the previous tie between the two. On that occasion, Leipzig struck twice in devastatingly quick time. But this time around, it was Celtic who dealt a killer blow immediately after the visitors had equalised with 13 minutes remaining. Edouard scored the game's winning goal 14 seconds after the Bhoys kicked off again. Celtic deserved their win and now move level on points with Thursday's opponents in the group with two games to go. And at full-time, Hartson could not praise Rodgers' men high enough, with almost every single player performing heroically at times to help Celtic to the three points that could be crucial by the end of the year. "It was an absolutely magnificent performance from Celtic. They were tested. They came under pressure. They withstood the pressure. They showed character from when Leipzig got it to 1-1," he told BT Sport. "I have to say there are too many fantastic performances for me to single anybody out. From goalkeeper to centre-forward, all over the park, Tierney's goal, McGregor intercepting, a threat all night in Edouard. "Absolutely phenomenal. It was just perfect. They were brave, they got back behind the ball when they had to. It was an outstanding performance
'Bale like, looks special': Some Arsenal fans rave about teenager, predict first-team football. Arsenal appear to have a huge talent on their hands in Bukayo Saka. Arsenal's first team were in Europa League action tonight, as they played out a dour 0-0 draw with Sporting at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners struggled to impress at the Emirates Stadium, but fans were at least treated to some entertainment on Wednesday night. Arsenal's Under-21's took on Forest Green Rovers in the Checkatrade Trophy, and came away with a thumping 3-1 victory in an impressive display. The likes of Cohen Bramall, Julio Pleguezuelo, Joe Willock and Gedion Zelalem were all inaction, with Willock grabbing a brace before Tyreece John-Jules added the third to seal a 3-1 win. However, the man who really caught the eye was Bukayo Saka, with the 17-year-old turning in a superb display to underline just why he is so highly-rated at the Emirates Stadium. Primarily a left winger, Saka was a thorn in Forest Green's side all night long, and his performance earned huge praise on Twitter during and after the game. Some called him 'special' and compared him to Gareth Bale, whilst predicting first-team football for him this season despite his youth, with fans telling people to remember his name as he will prove to be a star of the future. Saka, Willock and Pleguezuelo tonight Saka is incredible. Beat five or six men to win Arsenal a penalty. Bit of a Eureka moment for me with Saka tonight. I knew he was good but this kid looks special right now. You can see why Smith Rowe thinks he’s the next youngster who’ll be in the first team. saka has the potential to a lb turn into lw type a player. kinda bale like Saka is only 17 and he’s humiliating grown men, what a talent directly involved in 2 goals saka needs to get near the first team soon man is a gem Would prefer we bring Saka through as a left back, it’s better to have someone of his attributes at left back than it is to push him further forward, quite powerful as well Remember the name Bukayo Saka https://t.co/4QT3EpPWBV
Tam McManus thinks 23-year-old Celtic ace came of age tonight. Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic have won against RB Leipzig in the Europa League this evening. Tam McManus has taken to Twitter to give his reaction to Ryan Christie’s performance for Celtic against RB Leipzig. The former Hibernian forward, who now works as a pundit, was impressed with the performance of Christie for Celtic in their Europa League Group B game against Leipzig at Celtic Park on Thursday evening. The 23-year-old midfielder started the match and played for the entire 90 minutes, as Brendan Rodgers’s side won 2-1. According to WhoScored, the Scotland international took one shot, played one key pass, had a pass accuracy of 78.6%, had 56 touches, and made 10 tackles, three interceptions one clear clearance. Ryan Christie has come of age tonight in a Celtic jersey. Immense. Over the course of the 90 minutes at Celtic Park on Thursday evening, hosts Celtic had 47% of the possession, took 10 shots of which four were on target, and earned four corners, according to BBC Sport. The win against Leipzig means that the Hoops are now third in the Europa League Group B table with six points behind four matches, level on points with the Bundesliga club.
‘Heartbreaking’, ‘Gutted’ – Some Fans React After Arsenal Star Suffers Serious Injury. Some Arsenal fans have been reacting on social media after Danny Welbeck suffered what looked to be a serious injury during our Europa League clash with Sporting Lisbon this evening. Unai Emery made plenty of changes from the side that drew with Liverpool on Saturday evening with Welbeck among those recalled as the England international replaced Alexandre Lacazette up front against the Portuguese giants tonight. Welbeck was looking lively early on and almost opened the scoring when he latched on to a Stephan Lichtsteiner cross but his effort was cleared off the line by a Sporting Lisbon defender. However, Welbeck’s night was over soon after as the striker went down in a heap after challenging for a header midway through the first half and he immediately called for the Arsenal medical team. It was clear the forward was in considerable pain with his Arsenal team mates looking on in shock as Welbeck was given oxygen as the physios put his right ankle into a splint before carrying him off on a stretcher in the 30th minute to be replaced by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Understandably, fans have been expressing their disappointment that Welbeck appears to have suffered yet another serious injury as his career at Arsenal has been blighted by a number of injury problems since he joined from Manchester United. Supporters have taken to social media to say how ‘heartbreaking’ it is while TV presenter and lifelong Arsenal fan Piers Morgan was among those to say how ‘gutted’ they are for Welbeck. Fans have also been speculating that we won’t see Welbeck play again this season. We’ll have to wait for updates from Unai Emery after the game but let’s pray it’s not as serious as it seemed on TV. Check out what some fans have been saying following Welbeck’s injury: Well that's just heartbreaking for Danny 😢 — Daily Cannon (@DailyCannon) November 8, 2018 Gutted for @DannyWelbeck. Poor guy. #afc pic.twitter.com/SO6UfQaF9m — Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) November 8, 2018 Oh man, I’m so so gutted for Danny Welbeck.I really hope the injury isn’t as bad as this picture makes it seem. 😳 pic.twitter.com/g9TO3kJfuK — Moh Haider (@ArsenalMoh8) November 8, 2018 Poor Danny Welbeck. Difficult to find words for quite how unfortunate he has been with injury. — gunnerblog (@gunnerblog) November 8, 2018 Guendouzi almost in tears. Oxygen mask and a leg brace out for Welbeck by the looks of it. #AFC players clearly moved. — Mark Mann-Bryans (@MarkyMBryans) November 8, 2018 Sad to see Welbeck suffer another injury set-back. Gets a big ovation as he is carried off with the crowd chanting his name. #ARSSPO — Mattias Karén (@MattiasKaren) November 8, 2018 Sad to see Danny Welbeck carried off in distress to be replaced by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Let's hope his injury isn't as serious as it looks. Such was his powerful display at the Estadio Jose Alvalade two weeks ago the Portuguese sportspages dubbed him the 'Welbeck Express' — Layth (@laythy29) November 8, 2018 Just seen the picture. Suffice it to say – Danny won't be on the pitch again this season I'd wager. — You Are My Arsenal (@YouAreMyArsenal) November 8, 2018 Danny Welbeck is stretchered off with his leg in a splint, needing oxygen 😢 — Daily Cannon (@DailyCannon) November 8, 2018 Regardless of what the result is, I think we can all agree that the main thing is that Welbeck returns to full fitness as soon as possible. Judging by the reactions of both himself and his teammates, it looked serious. Wishing you a speedy recovery, Danny! We’re all behind you. — Patrick Timmons (@PatrickTimmons1) November 8, 2018
[Video Goals] Tottenham 2-1 PSV: Late Kane Strike Seals Spurs Comeback. Tottenham kept alive their Champions League hopes with Harry Kane scoring a late brace to secure a vital 2-1 victory over PSV Eindhoven at Wembley this evening. It was a nightmare start for Spurs as PSV shocked the north Londoners with an early goal as Luke de Jong powered home a header from a second minute corner to give the Dutch champions the lead. Both sides had chances to add to the scoreline during an exciting game but it was Tottenham who grabbed the equaliser in the 78h minute as substitute Fernando Llorente set-up Kane for the striker to fire home for 1-1. PSV threatened to restore their lead but Paulo Gazzaniga did well to keep the score at 1-1 with a save from Malen and Tottenham snatched a late winner when Kane’s header found it’s way in to the net thanks to two deflections to make it 2-1 in the 89th minute. The win means Tottenham are now on four points in Group B, three points behind Inter Milan and six adrift of Barcelona with two games left to play. Here are the goals:
Steven Gerrard urges Rangers fans not to blame one Ibrox star, explains surprise decision. Rangers drew 1-1 against Kilmarnock at Ibrox on Wednesday night. Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has told The Scottish Sun that fans shouldn't point fingers of blame at goalkeeper Wes Foderingham after Wednesday's 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock. The Gers were desperate for a response having lost 1-0 to Aberdeen in the semi-finals of the Betfred Cup on Sunday, with Gerrard urging his players to step up. It all started so well for Rangers against Kilmarnock, as striker Alfredo Morelos put the Gers in front, showing just how much they missed the Colombian on Sunday. However, Greg Stewart – a former Rangers youngster – hit the equaliser for Kilmarnock, and Rangers couldn't find a winner as they had to settle for a draw. Last night marked a third disappointing performance in a row, following the 0-0 draw with Spartak Moscow and 1-0 defeat to Aberdeen, with Gerrard's great start now under threat. Gerrard made one shock decision on Wednesday night, dropping Allan McGregor to the bench in order to start Wes Foderingham, with the Englishman making a first league start of the season. Some criticised Foderingham's display, but Gerrard has urged fans not to blame Foderingham, claiming that he actually prevented Rangers from losing last night. Gerrard noted that McGregor has been suffering with a 'small problem on the right side of his back', explaining why he decided to leave the Rangers stopper out last night. “Wes stopped us from actually dropping three points with a terrific save at the end,” said Gerrard. “Allan has had a small problem on the right side of his back, probably not enough to keep him out but a flag, if you like, to me about his age and the amount of games we are going to play over the course of the season. “But there are no fingers to be pointed at Wes. He could have done nothing at the first goal where we didn’t defend well enough. We were soft, missed the header and let a left-footer come back on his strong foot. There are other people to point fingers at for that goal. Because of Wes, we didn’t lose the game at the very end,” he added.
