The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the Seattle Kraken (NHL), lost a tight battle against the Rapid City Rush on Wednesday night in Allen in front of a good crowd of 3,834. The Americans, down 3-1 in the third period, rallied scoring late as Branden Troock cleared out the front of the Rapid City net and then put a backhander past Rush goalie Dillon Kelley for his 12th of the season to cut the lead to 3-2. The Americans pulled goalie Hayden Lavigne in the final 90 seconds of play but were unable to get the tying goal. Tyler Poulsen was the best player on the ice for either team, scoring a goal, delivering the biggest hit of the night, and dropping the gloves with Rush forward Alec Butcher for the win. “I was trying to get our team fired up as well as the crowd,” said Americans forward Tyler Poulsen, about his fight in the second frame. “We didn’t start strong but picked up the pace after the first period. Chad Costello made a perfect pass to me to set up my goal. We’re just disappointed not coming away with any points. The Americans gave up another shorthanded goal (15). It was the third straight game to give up a shorty. With the loss on Wednesday night, the Americans dropped their fourth in a row, and seven of their last eight games. The Americans also lost forward Chad Butcher due to injury in the opening period. He did not return. The Americans were already playing without injured players Gavin Gould, DJ Jerome and Eric Roy. The Americans continue the homestand on Friday night when the Newfoundland Growlers make their first ever appearance in Allen.
The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the Seattle Kraken (NHL), dropped another game to the Utah Grizzlies, losing by a score of 5-2 on Saturday night at Maverik Center, in front of an announced crowd of 4,891. For the second night in a row, the Americans opened the scoring as Gavin Gould scored his 10th of the year from Eric Roy and Chad Butcher at 9:59 of the opening frame. That would be the last goal the Americans would score until the third period. Three straight goals from Utah including the eventual game winner from Nick Henry in the third period, as the Grizzlies won for the fourth straight time against the Americans this season. “Mistakes are hurting us,” said Americans Captain Chad Costello. “It was a one-goal game until halfway through the third period when they (Utah) scored on a penalty shot. We never recovered from that” Matthew Boucher was the best player on the ice scoring two goals and setting up another. He led Utah with 11 shots on net. Hayden Lavigne lost for the second night in a row. He stopped 36 of 40 Utah shots. The final game of the series is Sunday afternoon at 2:05 pm CST. The Americans pregame show starts at 1:40 pm CST.
The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the Seattle Kraken (NHL), dropped a 2-1 game in overtime to the Tulsa Oilers on Friday night, as the Americans losing streak has reached three games. The Oilers scored the only goal of the opening period as Tulsa’s ECHL All-Star Jack Doremus scored his 15th of the season, firing a shot from the right-circle to put Tulsa up 1-0. The Oilers outshot the Americans 12-7 in the opening period. There would be no scoring in the second frame. Allen would tie the score halfway through the final frame as JD Dudek would get his first of the season and first with Allen. Andrew Jarvis and Jackson Leppard had the assists. The point for Jarvis was his first professional point. The score would remain tied after sixty minutes of action. Tulsa would make quick work of it in the overtime period scoring the game winner just 27-seconds into overtime as Darren McCormick beat Antoine Bibeau alone in front of the Allen net for his fourth of the season to give the Oilers the 2-1 win. “Tough ending,” said Americans Head Coach Steve Martinson. “Both goalies played great. We had our chances, so it’s tough not to get two points, but we need to focus on the positives and move forward.” The Americans look to end their three-game losing streak on Saturday night in Kansas City as they face the Mavericks. The Oilers put the game away in the third period outscoring the Americans 2-0. Former Allen Americans defenseman Dougie Lagrone had a goal and an assist on the night to lead his current team over his former team. Tulsa outshot the Americans 51-22 in a dominating performance by the Oilers. Over the last two games in Allen, the Oilers have outshot the Americans 99-44. “It was not good enough,” said Americans defenseman Kris Myllari, in a postgame interview on the Americans broadcast. Bibbs (Antoine Bibeau) played great between the pipes, and we didn’t do enough in front of him. It was embarrassing giving up 51 shots. That’s unacceptable”. Gavin Gould, on the day he was announced as an ECHL All-Star, had the lone goal for the Americans, his eighth goal of the season from Chad Costello and Jack Combs in the second period. The goal came on a 5-on-3 power play for the Americans. They went 1-for5 with the man advantage. The Americans and Oilers resume their three-game series on Friday night from the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Americans next home game is January 26th against Rapid City.
Allen, Texas – The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the Seattle Kraken (NHL), dropped the first game of a two-game series with the Orlando Solar Bears on Friday night by a score of 6-2 in Allen. The game was tied just one time on Friday night. Jack Combs evened the score at 15:59 of the first period with his sixth goal of the season, and that would be the last goal the Americans would score until the third period. “We will take a look at the video and see where things went wrong tonight,” said forward Chad Costello. “This is not the way we’ve been playing lately. It’s disappointing. We will bounce back tomorrow night.” Former Americans forward Joseph Garreffa led the Orlando charge scoring twice and assisting on two other goals. Garreffa finished the night with four points and nine shots on goal. The loss ended the Americans season-high three-game winning streak. Orlando outshot the Americans 37-36. The Solar Bears scored two shorthanded goals on Friday night. The Americans have given up a league high 10 shorthanded goals this season.

Chad Costello scored twice for Allen, his seventh and eighth goals of the season. His second of the night turned out to be the game-winning goal for the Americans. “It was a good team win,” noted Costello. “We had several guys on the score sheet. It was a big road win for us, that hopefully leads to a good run.” Luke Henman made his Allen debut tonight. Henman was assigned to the Americans yesterday by the Seattle Kraken, from the Charlotte Checkers. Henman scored a goal and added an assist in the Americans victory. The shorthanded goal was the first of his professional career. Gavin Gould led the way for Allen in the assist category, dishing out three helpers on Thursday night. With the three-point game, he moves into solo possession of second place on the team in scoring with 19 points. Branden Troock had a two-point game with a goal and an assist. Tyler Poulsen scored his second of the season. The Americans and Thunder resume the three-game series on Friday night at 7:05 pm from Wichita, Kansas.
The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the Seattle Kraken (NHL) rallied to beat the Rapid City Rush on Saturday night by a 5-4 score at the Rushmore Civic Center. Gavin Gould scored the first hat trick of the season for the Americans scoring his second, third and fourth goals of the season. His back-to-back goals just over a minute apart in the third period tied the game, and gave the Americans the lead for good.. “The leadership was unbelievable all weekend from top to bottom,” said Spencer Asuchak. “I think everybody stepped up with us being so shorthanded. We obviously would have liked to win all three, but I think this weekend will be huge for us moving forward.” Asuchak had a four-point night with a goal and three assists. He has the teams longest point streak of the season at seven games. Chad Costello, with two helpers on Saturday night, notched his 500th and 501st ECHL points. 362 of those 501 points have come in an Allen Americans sweater. The Americans take two of three games in Rapid City winning their first series of the season. The Americans travel to Boise, Idaho next week for a three-game series against the Steelheads.
