Orane Chin - Cal State Fullerton @ Hawaii

Honolulu, Hawai'i - Orane Chin scored a career-high 27 to lead the Titans (0-2), who got 10 points from Isiah Umipig and a team-high 8 rebounds and 9 points from Orlando Brown. Sedric Martin made two free throws for Fullerton to tie the game at 70-70 with 3:39 to play. Thompson made two free throws and Zane Johnson hit a trey for Hawai'i to make it 75-70 before Thompson added a trey and four free throws. "We just ran out of gas," said Fullerton Head Coach Bob Burton. "We were really excited to be tied up with 3 minutes to play. It's where we wanted to be. But they made shots and we didn't. "We stayed in a zone way too long but we had no choice with only three post players and all of them in foul trouble. We had to worry so much about Barnes and Johnson that it left Thompson open at the top. "I'm proud of our effort. We kept battling. "The schedule has not been real favorable. We flew Thursday and had only two hours before our practice and then played the late game last night and had to come back tonight." Fullerton led only in the early going and Hawai'i spurted late in the first half for a 41-35 lead at intermission. Hawai'i stretched it to 7 points a couple of times in the second half but Fullerton kept coming back, Hawai'i shot 51 percent from the floor and 42 percent at the 3-point line, making 10 of 24. Fullerton shot only 41 percent overall and made only 9 of 32 treys for 28 percent. Devon Peltier was 1-for-11 overall and 0-for-7 from the arc and had only 2 points. Fullerton improved vastly from the foul line from the previous night, making 11 of 13. But Hawai'i was 18 of 23.

Cal State Fullerton at UC Irvine (01/21/2012)

Irvine, Calif. - Omondi Amoke had career highs of 23 points and 17 rebounds and D. J. Seeley topped his career best with 27 points Saturday night as Cal State Fullerton won a Big West Conference shootout, 92-84. Fullerton also got 25 points from Kwame Vaughn in improving to 12-6 and 4-2. UC Irvine got 23 points from Daman Starring and Derick Flowers had 18 for the Anteaters, who fell to 6-13 and 3-4. Fullerton dominated the first half, 56-30, and led by as many as 30 points at 52-22. Fullerton shot 64 percent from the floor and the 3-point line (9 of 14) while UCI was shooting 39 percent. But the Titans didn't get a field goal for more than 6 minutes to open the second half and UCI got hot, totaling 54 points in the period. UCI made 10 of 16 treys after intermission and got as close as 6 points in the waning seconds. "We couldn't play any better than we did in the first half," said Fullerton Coach Bob Burton. "We must have made at least five 'oh no' shots. "We knew they would come back. They can really score. And when they got hot we started missing and then you start getting timid. We kept turning it over (17 for the game) and they went on a shooting spree. Any time you win is good and when you win on the road it's special. "Amoke was a man tonight. It's what I envisioned when he played like that in practice last year. He's getting healthy (shoulder) and he was the difference." Fullerton finished 13 of 20 from the 3-point line including 6-for-6 by Seeley and 4-of-5 by Vaughn. UCI went 14-for-31 behind the arc with Starring makinng 6-of-9 and Michael Wilder 4-of-8. Fullerton ultimately won the game at the free-throw line, making 20 of 26 in the second half. Amoke, a 51 percent shooter on the season, made 13 of 16. He also came up one rebound shy of the Bren Center rebounding record of 18 by the Titans' Cedric Ceballos. Irvine slowly closed the gap to open the second half as the Titans didn't get a bucket until Amoke's tip-in at 13:31 that made it a 63-45 game. The Anteaters had a run of 7-0 to get within 11 at 71-60 before Orlando Brown hit a trey for Fullerton. The next big Titan bucket was Seeley's first of the second half that put the lead back into double digits at 82-70 with 4:04 to play. UCI got to 87-81 with a minute to go but Vaughn hit 4 of 4 free throws and Seeley made 1 of 2 to offset a 3-pointer by Flowers. Fullerton had lost its last three road games. "We stayed calm and relied on what we do," said Amoke. "We maintained our composure when they were hitting everything. It showed how much parity there is in the conference. Everyone can be good. "I haven't been playing as well as I'm capable. I've been working at the free-throw line." Seeley was playing with a bandaged shooting hand. "I hurt it last week and jammed a knuckle against Riverside," he said. "I put up a lot of shots in practice yesterday getting used to the tape on my hand. "We haven't had a lead like that all year, especially on the road. "It feels good to get a road win, that's the most important thing." Fullerton completes a stretch of six out of seven games on the road next week with contests at Cal State Northridge and Long Beach State, the latter on ESPNU.

Fullerton, Calif. - Kwame Vaughn scored 21 points and D. J. Seeley added 20 Monday night to lead Cal State Fullerton to a 78-73 Big West Conference victory over Pacific. The Titans (10-3, 2-0) won their seventh game in a row for the longest win streak in 21 years, since the 1990-91 team won eight in a row. Pacific got 19 points from Lorenzo McCloud and 15 from Khalil Kelley but lost its fifth in a row to fall to (4-8, 0-1). Orane Chin had 13 points for the Titans including a 3-point play with 3:09 to go that broke a 68-68 tie and put Fullerton ahead for good. Pacific twice drew within a point before Vaughn hit a 3-pointer with 1:01 to play. McCloud made only one of two free throws at 0:49 before Seeley sealed the win with a slashing bank shot with 14 seconds left. Fullerton outrebounded the Tigers, 36-24, and outshot them 54 percent to 47 percent from the floor and hit all 7 free throws in the second half. Omondi Amoke had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Travis Fulton had 12 points and a team-high 7 rebounds for the Tigers. Fullerton led by as many as 14 points in the first half but the Tigers got within 2 at the break as Fulton hit a 3-pointer to beat the buzzer. Fullerton's biggest second-half lead was 64-58 with 6:28 remaining. "This game should give us more confidence," said Coach Bob Burton. "But that's the way we've been playing all season -- one minute we look really good and the next minute we are really bad. But the starters have stepped up an the end of the games. They get stops and score at the other end. "This game was there for anyone to take. "We shot 63 percent in the first half and were only up by 2 which was scary. But we had 13 turnovers in the first half and only three in the second half." Pacific made 6 of 13 treys in the first half but only 3 of 9 after intermission. Vaughn and Seeley each went 7-for-12 from the floor with Vaughn making a career-high 5 3-pointers in 9 tries. CAL STATE FULLERTON TITANS VS LONG BEACH STATE 49ERS (01/07/10)

Jan. 7, 2010 Fullerton, Calif. - Senior forward Gerard Anderson scored a career-high 22 points and sophomore guard Jacques Streeter had 20 points and 5 assists Thursday night to lead Cal State Fullerton to an 85-75 Big West Conference victory over Long Beach State. The Titans (6-7, 1-1) also got 13 points and 9 rebounds from junior forward Jer'Vaughn Johnson. Greg Plater came off the bench to lead the 49ers (6-9,0-2) with 18 points while Larry Anderson and Casper Ware each scored 15. Anderson hit all 8 shots he took including three 3-pointers. For his two-year career at Fullerton he had been 0-for-4 from behind the 3-point line. The Titans outrebounded the visitors, 41-29, and committed only 12 turnovers to 16 for Long Beach State. Fullerton took its biggest lead of the game at 60-46 with 9:30 to play but the 49ers went on a 7-0 run to make it 60-53 and Plater's steal and layup made it 62-58 with 6:30 to play. It was still a 4-point game at 64-60 when Streeter hit a trey to key a 10-2 surge for a 74-62 Fullerton lead with 2:40 to play. Long Beach got within 5 points at 76-71 after converting a pair of Fullerton turnovers against the full-court press but the Titans hit 7 of 8 free throws down the stretch to ward off the pre-season favorites to win the Big West title, who lost their fifth game in a row. "We played terrific tonight," said CSF Coach Bob Burton. "I thought the difference was we made shots. Anytime you shoot it that well you're going to be in good shape. "They got back into it by going to the offensive boards. They play hard and I never was comfortable. They weren't going to quit." Long Beach State never led and the last tie was at 5-5. Fullerton hit 8 of its first 9 shots including all three 3-point tries for an early 21-10 lead. The 49ers drew as close as 5 points but a 7-0 run gave Fullerton a 28-16 advantage, its biggest margin of the period. Long Beach State went to a zone defense after the early Fullerton barrage and the Titans made only 6 of 19 after the hot start. The halftime margin was 37-31. Anderson hit his first three shots of the second half to remain perfect at 7-for-7 for the game but after his acrobatic slam dunk he picked up his fourth foul with 15 minutes to play and had to come out with Fullerton leading 51-41. Fullerton is at UC Riverside on Saturday while Long Beach State hosts UC Irvine.
