The International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) Lead and Speed World Cup 2022 season will come to a close in Jakarta, Indonesia, this weekend, with the final medals up for grabs across the two disciplines. Over 180 athletes from all around the world will descend on the Southeast Asian Island to try and secure not only a podium spot, but an IFSC World Cup Series 2022 trophy in either Lead or Speed. The IFSC World Cup Series 2022 will return to Great Britain this week for Lead and Speed in Edinburgh, Scotland, from 9 to 11 September. The Edinburgh International Climbing Arena will welcome 189 athletes – 97 male, 92 female – from around the world back to the venue that last hosted an IFSC event in 2019 – the European Championships in Lead and Speed – and last staged a World Cup event in 2017. Following the Lead season opener last weekend in Innsbruck, Austria, Villars’ Place du Rendez-Vous will welcome the second Lead round of the year, in addition to the fourth stage of the 2022 Speed World Cup Series. The Boulder and Lead seasons will cross-paths at the Kletterzentrum Innsbruck, where the sixth stage of the IFSC World Cup Series 2022 will take place from 22 to 26 June. Returning to Europe, the Italian town of Brixen is set to play host to the next IFSC Boulder World Cup events, from 10 to 12 June 2022. The IFSC Boulder World Cup Brixen 2022 is the first IFSC competition to take place in Italy since the IFSC Youth World Championships Arco 2019, as well as the first IFSC World Cup to be held in the country since 2018. Moreover, this is the first time that Brixen has hosted an IFSC World Cup, having previously welcomed only continental Sport Climbing competitions including the IFSC Europe Cup this May.
