RB Leipzig send a clear message to Chelsea after Julian Nagelsmann tipped to replace Frank Lampard Frank Lampard's position is under threat following a significant decline in form in recent weeks with Chelsea. Chelsea fans have endured a rollercoaster ride so far this season and the drop has been significant in recent weeks, with the Blues struggling for form after initially being touted as contenders for the Premier League title. Frank Lampard is now firmly established as the favourite in the running to be the next manager in the top-flight sacked, with pressure upon the Blues legend rising. Many names have been touted as potential successors to the former midfielder but the dream target for many is RB Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann. One supporter took a cheeky attempt on social media to try and get the club's official Twitter account to drop a hint on the German's future but their comment was quickly rebuffed. The fan wrote: "Leipzig admin!! Long time no see! How are you doing? Had a lot of fun trying to get Timo Werner from you last time and that all worked out! "You've been doing well! Turns out we need another favour from you it seems... How's your coach Julian doing?" Adding emojis for eyes, a thumbs up and a laughing face. The Bundesliga side swiftly replied, stating: "Doing great, thanks! And... no chance. Bye." However, many Chelsea fans quickly pointed out that similar messages were sent surrounding Timo Wener last season, who did of course move to Stamford Bridge in the summer. Given the fact that Leipzig is currently embroiled in a fierce title race with Bayern Munich for the Bundesliga title, it's extremely unlikely he will leave midway through the campaign. Even if his services did become available at the end of the season, there could be fierce competition as he is rated as one of the finest managers in world football. Yet there is a feeling that a coach with experience of the Bundesliga could revive Chelsea’s struggling German stars, Timo Werner and Kai Havertz. In that context, Ralf Rangnick, regarded as one of the most innovative figures in German football, could arrive on a short-term basis given that Julian Nagelsmann, the RB Leipzig manager, is unlikely to be available until the summer. Chelsea could choose to wait until the end of the season even if they decide to remove Lampard, as they did with Maurizio Sarri and Antonio Conte. There is no guarantee that Chelsea will go down the German route if Lampard departs. Max Allegri remains available following his departure from Juventus 18 months ago and the Italian has a wealth of experience. There is a doubt over Tuchel because of his struggle to deal with PSG’s internal politics... Ralph Hasenhüttl, who managed Werner at Leipzig, has also been mentioned after impressing at Southampton. Lampard is clinging on for now and is line to face pivotal home games against Wolves and Burnley before visiting Tottenham on 4 February. Chelsea plotting a club-record deal to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland ahead of rivals. Chelsea has made Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland their top summer transfer target and will try to steal a march on other European giants by offering more than his release clause. The 20-year-old has been in blistering goalscoring form ever since moving to Germany and has netted 12 goals in just 11 Bundesliga appearances this season, as well as registering two assists. Haaland is one of Europe’s outstanding young talents and is on the wishlist of a number of clubs, notably Real Madrid, Manchester United and Manchester City. A massive scramble to sign him was expected to happen in 18 months’ time, after the end of the 2021/22 season, when his £66.6million release clause becomes active. But, according to The Athletic, Chelsea is trying to jump ahead of their rivals by offering a mammoth fee this coming summer – a year before the buyout clause comes into effect. The west London club is ‘going to do their utmost’ to lure him to Stamford Bridge and is prepared to smash their transfer record, with a fee in excess of £100m likely needed to prise him away from Dortmund. The Bundesliga club wants to keep Haaland for as long as possible, even if it means losing him for a smaller fee in 2022, and will therefore demand a massive price to let him go a year early. Although most clubs have seen their finances severely hampered by the coronavirus pandemic, Chelsea has spent freely – spending over £200m last summer – and feel they can exploit the market and their rivals’ current inability to spend big. It could also mean they get a free run at Haaland over the coming months, particularly as Chelsea believe their rivals for the striker’s signature are waiting until 2022. However, Chelsea still faces a number of significant obstacles in trying to sign Haaland, not least dealing with the forward’s agent Mino Raiola. The Blues are not on the best terms with Raiola after they failed to sign Romelu Lukaku back in 2017, while Haaland himself will also need persuading to move to the Premier League having been favouring a switch to Real Madrid. In this video, I want to discuss four changes Frank Lampard has to make to save his Chelsea managerial career and It’s a very simple question, then - what should Lampard do? I have some ideas. The Blues boss is under pressure after a run of one win in six games has seen his team slide down the standings. When trying to arrest a slump in form, the solution is often seen as seemingly quite simple if you’re an observer of football. “SCORE MORE GOALS” they might say. “CONCEDE fewer GOALS” they would undoubtedly add as well. Well, yes. Scoring more and conceding less will inevitably lead to better results but is it really that simple for Frank Lampard? Chelsea has lost four of their last six matches in the Premier League and has dropped down the standings to eighth, seven points off the top two having played a game more. The 3-1 reverse to Manchester City has set some alarm bells ringing, with the Blues comprehensively outplayed in the first half as they shipped three goals before the break courtesy of Ilkay Gundogan, Phil Foden and former Blue Kevin De Bruyne. Lampard admitted that it was a chastening experience for his players as they failed to react to the onslaught from Pep Guardiola’s side, playing without a recognised striker and ravaged by Covid-19 yet they still breezed their way to victory in west London. It’s a very simple question, then - what should Lampard do? We have some ideas. Pick players in the form The manager is being loyal to the likes of Timo Werner but the German is quite clearly struggling for confidence in front of goal. He was played through the middle by the manager on Sunday but it still didn’t look like clicking for Werner. Considering Lampard had a much more in-form striker on the bench in Olivier Giroud, who has banged in eight goals in his last eight games in all competitions, it was a surprise the Frenchman didn’t even get off the bench on Sunday, let alone start. Callum Hudson-Odoi was very unlucky not to start either after a decent couple of outings in previous games as Lampard brought back Hakim Ziyech after injury, a move that didn't pay off with the Moroccan understandably looking rusty. Lampard made a couple of errors with his starting eleven on Sunday and in the Premier League especially, it is time to reward those who have been playing well. Get the wingers scoring again Easier said than done, we know, as there isn’t much Lampard can do when his players cross the white line and take to the field. Hudson-Odoi’s goal against Manchester City was the first time a Blues winger has scored since the victory over Leeds, which was seven games ago. That encompasses Ziyech, Pulisic, Werner and Hudson-Odoi who have all played in wide positions since. Ziyech can be excused as he hasn’t played whatsoever through injury but the lack of goals outside of Giroud in recent weeks must be a concern for Lampard. Hudson-Odoi showed signs of life for the wingmen when he scored that very late consolation against City but the others need to find their shooting boots. Pulisic hasn’t scored since the Leeds game and has found the goal just once in the top flight all season. Build around a striker Being thrown in from the start was an error of judgement from Lampard, who should have stuck with Hudson-Odoi. Who knows how much of a difference it would have made, hindsight is a very wonderful thing. Lampard could well be minded to give Ziyech minutes against Morecambe in the FA Cup this weekend to try and get some more miles in the winger’s legs ahead of what is going to be a crucial run of games for the manager. But expecting the Moroccan to be the game-changer he was in the early going of the season is a bit too far-fetched. He needs to be eased back into action before we can see the Ziyech of early 2020/21. After thinking about lost to Wolves The Blues fell to a 2-1 defeat to Wolves on Tuesday to cast doubt over their title aspirations and I have not been convinced by summer signing Timo Werner. I kindly suggested that Chelsea's Timo Werner should be dropped by Frank Lampard - and has urged the forward to work on his finishing. The £52m summer signing from RB Leipzig has shown signs of promise in a Blues shirt, but suffered a frustrating night in the 2-1 defeat to Wolves on Tuesday. The German has failed to score for the club since netting in the 4-1 win against Sheffield United last month, and he struggled to make an impact again against Wolves. I believe Werner is the man who could make way for another player over the Christmas period. "I think Werner when he comes in off that left, he’s very, very dangerous, "I just think he just needs to brush up on his finishing, but he’s a young striker and he will do that. "So I’ve got no doubts he’ll be a top player for Chelsea but there are options now and he [Lampard] needs to move it around. "Ziyech coming back in, freshen it up at some point. Take Werner out, bring him back in. "It’s a marathon to win a title usually, and certainly this year. You’ve got to use your whole squad. So Werner maybe comes out, bring the other lads back in." Nevertheless, I do think both Werner and fellow big-money signing Kai Havertz have a big future at Stamford Bridge despite their somewhat subdued starts to live in the Premier League. "You can compare him (Werner) with other big foreign imports, sometimes they come to this league – certainly in these situations, you have to understand it might take time for them to settle. "I think for him and Havertz it has as well. Werner has probably settled in a little bit quicker. They are two top players, I know because you see the glimpses. "But I have no doubt Werner and Havertz will be massive players for Chelsea."
