The Baseline NBA Podcast is back with our coveted Autopsy Report, putting three struggling franchises “on the slab”: the Indiana Pacers, Sacramento Kings, and Washington Wizards. Cal Lee and Warren Shaw pull on the black scrubs and break down who’s got a pulse, who’s in critical condition, and who’s completely flatlined. We’re not just talking vibes – we’re talking coaching, roster construction, cap sheets, injuries, culture, and front office direction. This episode is perfect for hoop fans who live for the postmortem on disappointing seasons and want an early look at what these teams must do next. In this episode: Why a team that was just in the NBA Finals (Pacers) collapsed into the bottom of the East How much blame (or grace) Rick Carlisle deserves, and why his partnership with Tyrese Haliburton still matters Why the Pacers’ roster is in critical condition, and why a dynamic two-way wing is now a must The ongoing identity crisis in Sacramento and why the Kings’ culture and direction have completely flatlined What Doug Christie represents as a coach… and why his imprint still isn’t visible on either end of the floor How ugly the Kings’ cap situation and veteran mix really are, and why the franchise feels rudderless Why the Washington Wizards might actually have more hope than people think How a core built around Trae Young, Anthony Davis, and Alex Sarr, plus a wave of young talent, could reshape the Wizards The defensive identity Washington could build, and what has to go right for this experiment not to blow up If you rock with deep-dive NBA team breakdowns, cap and roster talk, and culture-focused analysis – this Autopsy Report is for you. 0:00 – Intro, black scrubs energy & Autopsy Report concept 1:33 – Explaining the Autopsy scale: pulse, critical condition, flatline 4:55 – PrizePicks read & setting up this week’s three teams 6:45 – Indiana Pacers put on the slab: from Finals run to bottom of the East 7:22 – Did we overrate the Pacers or underestimate the East? 8:45 – Coaching: grading Rick Carlisle and his partnership with Haliburton 14:50 – Pacers roster in critical condition: the missing wing 23:13 – Pacers intangibles & future: Halliburton’s return and realistic offensive/defensive ceiling 27:37 – Sacramento Kings on the slab: no identity, no direction, no plan 31:07 – Kings roster: bad veteran mix, cap issues, and no cornerstone path 41:15 – Can the draft deliver a true culture-changer for Sacramento? 47:02 – Kings intangibles: ownership and why the franchise feels stuck 51:57 – Washington Wizards on the slab: ugly season, but a plan in place? 54:41 – Coaching Brian Keefe: is he the guy to lead a Trae/AD era? 58:34 – Wizards roster breakdown: Trae Young, Anthony Davis, Alex Sarr 1:04:14 – Intangibles in D.C.: defensive identity, realistic upside 1:09:45 – Closing: where these three franchises go from here & teasing future Autopsy Reports Follow The Baseline on X: https://twitter.com/nbabaseline Follow The Baseline on IG: https://instagram.com/nba_baseline The Baseline Swag: https://tinyurl.com/baselineswag Subscribe to 19 Media Group: https://bit.ly/3KcZtGe #nba #podcast #sports
Full game recap and highlights from the Denver Nuggets vs Dallas Mavericks as Denver returns home on the second night of a back-to-back in one of their toughest schedule stretches of the season. Playing on limited rest after a late arrival, the Nuggets had to dig deep against a high-powered Mavericks team. Early on, you could see the fatigue. Denver started a step slow defensively, allowing Dallas to find rhythm from the perimeter, but strong ball movement on offense kept them in it. Jamal Murray set the tone immediately, attacking with confidence and carrying the scoring load while the rest of the lineup found their footing. Even when the offense stalled briefly after rotations shifted, Murray’s presence kept Denver within striking distance. The second quarter is where things took off. With Nikola Jokic back on the floor orchestrating, the Nuggets offense opened up in a big way. Quick outlet passes, unselfish play, and perimeter shooting sparked a major run. Murray caught fire from deep, knocking down multiple threes and completely flipping the momentum. Denver tightened things up just enough defensively to create separation and head into halftime with control. Out of the break, the intensity picked up on both sides. Jokic continued to dominate the flow of the game, creating easy looks and controlling the tempo, but the Mavericks refused to go away. Dallas capitalized on fouls and defensive lapses to chip into the lead, turning it into a back-and-forth battle. Every time the Nuggets looked ready to pull away, the Mavs answered, keeping the pressure on heading into the fourth. And then it became the Jamal Murray show. In the final quarter, Murray elevated to another level, hitting tough shots, attacking the rim, and delivering in big moments as the Mavericks closed the gap. Dallas made a late push with timely three-point shooting, turning it into a one-possession game, but Denver responded with clutch plays from both Murray and Jokic to maintain control. Despite the fatigue, the Nuggets never folded. This game was a statement about resilience as much as anything else. On the second night of a back-to-back, Denver executed offensively at a high level and found just enough stops late to protect home court in a high-scoring battle. Jamal Murray delivered one of his best performances of the season, exploding for over 50 points and taking over when it mattered most. Nikola Jokic anchored the offense once again, finishing just shy of another massive stat line while creating opportunities all over the floor. The biggest takeaway is simple. This team is starting to look like it’s hitting playoff form at the right time. Even with one of the most demanding schedules in the league and visible fatigue early, Denver showed the ability to adjust, lock in, and close out a dangerous opponent. Final Score: Denver Nuggets 142, Dallas Mavericks 135 Also I’m looking for a co-host or someone willing to join the show. DM me on X @IronRoadProds.
