According to ESPN's Dave McMenamin, there is currently "no traction" on a Kyrie Irving-Russell Westbrook trade between the Nets and the Lakers. As a result of stalled negotiations, the Lakers are now searching elsewhere for backcourt reinforcements. Los Angeles is now "re-engaging" with the Pacers in order to discuss the possibility of acquiring Indiana shooting guard Buddy Hield. Hield, a six-year NBA veteran, averaged 15.6 points per game last year, which was a poor mark compared to his production in 2017–18. However, following a midseason move from Sacramento to Indiana, Hield's performance significantly improved, averaging 18.2 points per game and starting all 26 of his games. This isn't the first time the Lakers have tried to sign Hield. Before investing everything on Westbrook in a sensational trade with the Wizards last July, Los Angeles purportedly had a deal with Sacramento in place that would have made Hield a Laker. #Lakers, Nets 'Actively Engaged' on #KyrieIrving, Russell Westbrook Trade | #LakersTradeRumors It appears that the idea of Kyrie Irving teaming up with LeBron James on the Los Angeles Lakers is gaining traction. The Lakers and Brooklyn Nets are "actively engaged" in trade discussions centered around Irving and Russell Westbrook, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports. "There's palpable optimism that an agreement can be struck between the two sides this offseason, but there remain a few hurdles, sources said," Haynes wrote. The two sides continue to talk about draft compensation, and the Nets want the Lakers to take Joe Harris in the deal, according to Haynes. Harris, who is recovering from ankle surgery, is owed $38.6 million over the next two years, and the Purple and Gold "have been disinclined to the inclusion of" the veteran, Haynes added. L.A. wants Seth Curry included in the deal instead. "The Nets are not expected to be rushed into a deal and will continue conversing the complex specifics with the Lakers on an Irving-Westbrook swap," Haynes wrote. The news comes after ESPN's Stephen A. Smith reported that Irving wanted to re-join James in L.A. "as soon as he possibly can" (h/t Adam Zagoria of NJ Advance Media. In addition, The Athletic's Jovan Buha and Sam Amick reported that Irving teaming up with James again is a real possibility. Amick, Alex Schiffer and Joe Vardon of The Athletic added that Irving was focused on joining the Lakers before opting in to his contract with the Nets for the 2022-23 season. Vicious Opening Leg Takes its Toll At Safari Rally Kenya

Championship leader Rovanperä languished in 11th overall on Thursday evening after puncturing a tyre on the curtain-raising super special stage, but was immediately into the podium fight on Friday's sandy speed tests on the shores of the Great Rift Valley’s Lake Naivasha. Car-breaking roads and thick fesh-fesh sand punished crews as more than half of the FIA World Rally Championship field suffered some form of drama during the day, but Toyota Gazoo Racing’s GR Yaris cars performed well under the pressure. Defending Kenya winner Ogier picked up where he had left off on Thursday and led for the majority of the six stages. He was briefly overtaken by team-mate Elfyn Evans in the morning, but moved back in front in the afternoon’s opener when the Welshman suffered a soft rear tyre. Rovanperä lingered inside the leading trio and managed to bag three stage wins before seizing the top spot late in the day when his colleague stopped to change a wheel during the Kedong finale. The Finn was pleased to be carrying a 22.4sec buffer into Saturday’s monster leg despite having to sweep dust from the surface as the first car on the road. “I think we did a good job,” reflected Rovanperä. “The plan was to be fast and safe and we are in a good position now, but tomorrow will be very challenging. “I’ve never really experienced anything like this before. Last year we didn’t have this many soft sections of road, so that was something a bit new. “Of course, it’s always challenging here. There was still some [road] cleaning on the second pass, but other than that we have enjoyed the stages - except the last one - I think we all felt relieved to finish that,” he added. Evans remained Rovanperä’s nearest challenger, but he found it difficult to judge exactly how hard to push and what risks to take. He ended just 2.9sec clear of third-placed Ott Tänak, who denied Toyota an overnight podium lockout. Tänak started on the back foot when the gear lever of his Hyundai i20 N snapped during the first stage. Thanks to some quick-thinking, the Estonian carried out a makeshift repair, using the car’s spare wheel brace as a temporary shifter before going on to claim a brace of top-three times. Takamoto Katsuta was demoted from second to fourth overall in the final stage. The Toyota youngster slowed to pass a stricken Craig Breen - who retired his M-Sport Ford Puma with front right suspension damage - and eventually ended 1.3sec down on Tänak. Second in the championship Thierry Neuville also had a troublesome day with his Hyundai. The car briefly lost power after scooping up a cloud of dust on SS4, with Neuville also complaining of traction and drivability issues. He trailed the frontrunners by almost one-minute, ahead of Ogier, who was 1min 10.7sec further back. Last year, Ogier clawed back a similar deficit to take victory after breaking a suspension damper on Friday. Anything is still possible, although the Frenchman appeared to be visibly dejected back at the Naivasha service park. “Being so far behind, I can’t really say we are in the fight,” he said. “Of course, a lot of things can still happen, but it’s not the same fight when you are this far behind. I am pretty sure things will happen tomorrow, but it’s still frustrating.” Gus Greensmith was the only M-Sport Ford championship contender to finish the day, but he was almost 15 minutes off the pace after stopping to make stage-side repairs on Kedong 1. Sébastien Loeb’s Puma stopped with engine troubles on the way back to midday service and Adrien Fourmaux’s similar car also bowed out with a transmission-related failure. How to hop logs on a dirt bike! But today we have four mentally unbalanced riders who love logs... the bigger the better. There's the extreme enduro pro rider, Tim Coleman. His wife, Ina Coleman. Gold class hard enduro muppet, Ben Gilmore. And his son, Arch. Tim Coleman is our first competitor. This log is harder than it looks. If you go over too fast, you may go over the handlebars. The solution is just enough speed to get on top of the log then stop. On his first hard enduro run, Tim does not have quite enough speed. A great attempt though. Fourth run? Tim knows how much throttle is needed now, to get on top of the log The second run? Too much speed and the front wheel was too high. Third run? Tim goes for an extreme enduro technique that looks impossible. .Stopping on top of big logs provides the opportunity to see the other side. Then you can either ride the motorbike down, or 'bulldog' down if it's looks too risky. See our hard enduro video about bulldogging. Tim knows it is safe to ride down the other side so he has two quick runs with just enough momentum to get over the log in one smooth movement. He keeps his body to the rear to avoid going over the handlebars. Third attempt, she is up! It's always a good idea to have someone 'spotting' for you on big logs. In our Canadian log training sessions, we often have four people spotting. It gives beginners a lot of confidence. See our training vid about 'spotting'. Fourth attempt? Brilliant! Well done, Ina. And finally... why not do it with an extreme enduro wheelie? Next, it's Ina Coleman. She is regularly on the podium at hard enduro events in the women's class. She is riding a Sherco 125 SE which is incredibly light but naturally has less grunt. So she is using a small stick as a 'kicker'. Like Tim, Ina is going slowly at first. She doesn't want to go over the handlebars. Next? It's Ben, our own gold class enduro muppet. He takes it very easy at first and slowly builds up the attack on the log. See how Ben doesn't let go of the handlebars and jumps off the motorbike so he doesn't crash? It's an important hard enduro technique that has been adopted from trials competition. Instead of crashing you dismount at the right time and stay in control of the motorbike. Ben comes in to 'spot'. Ben has been to a lot of Tim Coleman's coaching, and he's passed the knowledge on to Arch. You can see Arch has the same careful approach to building up speed and throttle. And finally, he's on top of the log. Well done, Arch. We have a training series with 10 different techniques to get over logs. You would be surprised how quickly you can master big logs! Get into it.
