Romain Grosjean will step back into a Formula 1 car for the first time since his Bahrain fireball accident when he gets a chance to demo a 2019 Mercedes at the French Grand Prix, and then spend a full day testing it in the days after the race. It's a great gesture from Mercedes, but given Grosjean never raced for the team in F1, why has the world champion team been the one to step up to offer Grosjean this special chance? Red Bull hasn't fast-tracked Yuki Tsunoda to Formula 1 just because it's a nice gesture towards Honda before the manufacturer pulls out at the end of this year. The FIA will carry out deeper technical checks on one car drawn at random at every grand prix in 2021. At the Bahrain Grand Prix the lucky winner of this draw was Valtteri Bottas, whose Mercedes passed the additional checks with flying colours. This is part of a push by the FIA to further close down any possible avenues for cheating in F1, with the hope being that the threat of a team's car being chosen for the random extra checks will prevent teams being willing to take too many risks around F1's technical rules. So how does it work? Edd Straw explains all in our latest video. Mercedes has been one of the few F1 teams in recent years not to follow the ‘high rake’ ride height concept pioneered by Red Bull. But have the rule changes around the floor of the 2021 cars created an aerodynamic situation that works against the Mercedes concept? In this video Edd Straw explains what ‘rake’ really means, how it impacts the downforce produced by an F1 car, and why the rule changes for this year could be causing Mercedes headaches #F1 #Mercedes #RedBull READ MORE HERE https://the-race.com/formula-1/gary-anderson-have-new-f1-rules-hurt-low-rake-mercedes/ Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: http://twitter.com/WeAreTheRace Instagram: http://instagram.com/WeAreTheRace Facebook: http://facebook.com/WeAreTheRace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace
With Formula 1 pre-season testing over almost as quickly as it started, working out how the teams stack up is harder than ever. Headline lap times can be a colossal red herring and the leaderboard is rarely an accurate reflection of where each team stands. But we don’t shy away from a challenge at The Race. We've factored in many variables, considered all the usual caveats that come with testing, and come up with what we think is a fair ranking - so here it is.
