Arsenal sempat kesulitan menembus pertahanan Newcastle pada babak pertama. Tapi, pada babak kedua mereka mampu meraih dua gol. Bukayo Saka membuka keunggulan The Gunner pada menit ke-56. Ia mencetak gol setelah memanfaatkan umpan Nuno Tavares. Gabriel Martinelli menambah keunggulan itu pada menit ke-66. Ia menjebol gawang Martin Dubrakva setelah mendapat assist dari Takehiro Tomiyasu.
Emile Smith Rowe's second-half goal was enough to give us victory in Mikel Arteta's 100th game in charge. We had to work hard for all three points though, after a missed penalty in the first half and disallowed goals either side of the break. After a minute's silence ahead of Remembrance Sunday next week, we made a promising start at the Emirates. Ainsley Maitland-Niles was the only change to the side that beat Leicester last weekend, replacing the injured Thomas Partey in midfield. And his clever pass to Alexandre Lacazette inside the box led to us having the ball in the net after just seven minutes, but it was ruled out by VAR. Lacazette's lob found Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, from him the ball bobbled to Bukayo Saka, but replays clearly showed his was offside as he stroked home. The game became scrappy for a while after that, with neither side taking control. There were more yellow cards than shots in the opening half hour - two apiece - and it was a foul in the area that gave us a golden opportunity to take the lead. Lacazette was taken out in the box by Danny Rose, only for Aubameyang to see his spot kick saved by Ben Foster, who also gobbled up the rebound. Late in the half Foster also denied Gabriel well with his legs, when the big defender got his head to an inswinging Saka corner. The second half started in similar fashion, with both sides picking up more bookings before we eventually made the breakthrough. Ben White took control, surged forward towards the area before the ball fell to Smith Rowe just outside the box. His low shot found the corner, with Watford players appealing for a foul on Moussa Sissoko. The goal was given though, and Smith Rowe had scored for the third Premier League game running. We had another goal disallowed, when Aubameyang sliding in on the line to get the final touch to a Martin Odegaard shot, but the flag was quickly raised. The frustration was that it appeared as though Odegaard's shot may have gone in without Aubameyang's touch. Watford were not laying down and began to put us under more pressure in the closing stages. There was a real scare when Josh King rounded Ramsdale outside the area, found himself with an open goal but shot into the side netting. Juraj Kucka was sent off late on for the visitors, for a second bookable offence, and then Sambi Lokonga could have sealed it with a piledriver in injury time, but Foster batted it away. 1-0 to the Arsenal it was though, enough to lift us to fifth place before in the international hiatus. #arsenal #smithrowe Enjoy match highlights, training and behind the scenes to get closer to the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Vivianne Miedema, Nicolas Pepe, Alexandre Lacazette, Leah Williamson, Bernd Leno, Emile Smith Rowe, Nikita Parris, Tobin Heath, Mana Iwabuchi, Jordan Nobbs, Bukayo Saka, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Kim Little, Gabriel Martinelli, Aaron Ramsdale, Beth Mead, Ben White, Thomas Partey and more. Our under-23s climbed to the top of the Premier League 2 table on Friday night with an impressive 4-2 victory over Leeds United at Elland Road. Kevin Betsy’ side have now won seven of their opening 10 league fixtures, scoring more goals than any other team and displaying weekly improvement in defence. But despite that, it was the hosts who opened the scoring early on and in an unfortunate manner too. After Mazeed Ogungbo was fouled inside his own penalty area, we regained possession and looked for a free-kick, but the referee waved play on and former Gunner Sam Greenwood made no mistake on the counter-attack. It took us less than five minutes to respond, though, as Salah-Eddine picked up a loose pass from the goalkeeper and skipped past his marker, before curling a stunning effort into the top right corner. Leeds regained their advantage before the break with Max Jimmy Dean providing the finishing touch to another sweeping counter-attack, but once again, we showed incredible character and spirit to bounce back less than 60 seconds after the restart. Pressing forward in numbers, Folarin Balogun dispossessed a Leeds midfielder and charged into the penalty area, before cutting the ball back for Brooke Norton-Cuffy to fire towards goal. Our No 7’s drilled effort was deflected and spilled behind by the keeper, but Mika Biereth was on hand to ensure to ensure the ball crossed the line. It was no less than we deserved for our positive, attacking play and shortly after we had a golden chance to take the lead, as Kido Taylor-Hart won a penalty following some outstanding build-up play from Jack Henry-Francis. Captain Balogun stepped up and fired a powerful effort into the bottom left corner for his eighth goal of the PL2 season. In what was a topsy-turvy game, our youngsters knew that they couldn’t rest on their laurels, and late on we furthered our advantage with an outstanding team move on the break. Driving forward from deep inside our own half, Tim Akinola carried the ball for more than 30 yards and slipped through Balogun, who lost his marker with a sharp turn before picking out Joel Lopez to provide the finishing touch. We booked our place in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup after second half goals from Calum Chambers and Eddie Nketiah saw off the challenge of Leeds. Coming into the game off the back of a hugely-encouraging win against Aston Villa and ahead of a tricky clash at Leicester this weekend, it was no surprise to see Mikel Arteta shuffle his pack. There were nine changes to the team, with just Ben White and Emile Smith Rowe retaining their places – but most of the attention was focused on the bench, where Salah Oulad M'Hand was included for the first time. We made much of the early running in a tightly-contested first half, with Eddie Nketiah dragging a shot wide and Sead Kolasinac’s effort from a tight angle saved. But Leeds posed a real threat on the break, and had a clear sight of goal when Diego Llorente played a pinpoint ball over the back of our defence for Dan James to race in to, but Bernd Leno saved his shot. Our German goalkeeper then made an outstanding save to deny Jack Harrison, after the Leeds man took aim with a fierce shot at the back post, before Smith Rowe flashed one over at the other end. That was it for the first half, but after the interval we took the lead when Chambers – on for the injured Ben White seconds earlier – headed the ball over the line, and after a long pause, the goalline technology awarded it. We doubled our advantage when Nketiah – up against his former loan club – took advantage of an underhit headed backpass by racing on to it, lifting the ball past Illan Meslier and rolling it in for our second of the night. It was the striker’s seventh goal in eight Carabao Cup matches – for both us and Leeds. There was still time for Alex Lacazette to rob Kalvin Phillips and race through, but he blasted his shot over – but it mattered not, our place in the quarter-finals was secure. #arsenal #gabriel #ramsdale Enjoy match highlights, training and behind the scenes to get closer to the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Vivianne Miedema, Nicolas Pepe, Alexandre Lacazette, Leah Williamson, Bernd Leno, Emile Smith Rowe, Nikita Parris, Tobin Heath, Mana Iwabuchi, Jordan Nobbs, Bukayo Saka, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Kim Little, Gabriel Martinelli, Aaron Ramsdale, Beth Mead, Ben White, Thomas Partey and more.
