#VladimirGuerrero #Jrthree #homeruns #TorontoBlue NEW YORK — Vladimir Guerrero Jr. shrugged off a bloody wound on his right ring finger to hit three home runs, including two from ace Gerrit Cole, against the Yankees. The Toronto Blue Jays beat New York 6-4 on Wednesday night. George Springer hit a tied single in the seventh, Toronto held off the Yankees despite homers from Anthony Rizzo, Aaron Judge and Gleb Torres, and in the eighth , Flanker Giancarlo Stanton was stuck in the warning lane. Guerrero played an important role in this. The AL MVP runner-up hit Cole for a home run in the first inning, accidentally hit first base in the second, then drove a two-run save on Cole in the third to save Toronto to a 3-0 lead. He doubled for Cole in the sixth -- prompting the pitcher to put on a show for the 23-year-old by flipping -- and then launched a 443-foot lead homer against Jonathan Loisiga in the eighth Hit to lead 5-3. It was Guerrero's second career triple and hit a career-high on April 27 against Washington. He was already on deck when teammate Bobby Chet entered the finals in ninth place, giving him no chance of hitting a major league record of four home runs in a single game. Guerrero leads the majors with four homers in six games after leading the majors with 48 homers last season. Jordan Romano was ninth in his fourth saves of the season. He has converted 27 chances in a row. Even he got help from Guerrero -- in the final, with a sharp inside glove from Josh Donaldson on his left hand. Blue Jays outfielder Tesco Hernandez left the field in pain and discomfort on the left wing after a sixth-round exit. Guerrero appeared to have to play in the second inning when base runner Aaron Hicks stepped on his bare thrower. Guerrero had to go over his body to catch Bichette's pitch and put his right hand behind the first basebag for balance. Hicks stepped on it and threw an infield single. The fourth-year major leaguer immediately started waving, then walked toward the Toronto dugout, spattering blood on his uniform and lawn. In a show of tenacity sure to please Toronto hockey fans, Guerrero put a piece of coaching tape on his wound, and he jogged back to first base a few minutes later. With a bloodstain on the right thigh of his pants, he hit the top of the 3-pointer again, turning Cole's 98-mile fastball into a 427-foot, two-barrel hom
Two goals from Keinan Davis set Forest on their way to an emphatic victory against relegation-threatened Reading. The Reds couldn't have made a better start, with Joe Worrall's throughball, Djed Spence's cross and Davis' turn and finish putting the home team in the lead after just 17 seconds! However, the rest of the first half was flat at best, with Ethan Horvath having to make a crucial save and Forest players struggling to play on the front foot. Max Lowe's enforced substitution enabled a tactical tweak, with sub Cafu playing in the hole, enabling Jimmy Garner to drop back into central midfield, and The Reds reaped the benefits in the second half. All the goals were tidy, with Yates and Surridge putting the seal on the victory, but it was the second goal that got everyone talking: Davis received the ball with his back to goal 25 yards out, and in one move he turned and shrugged off three men, before approaching the box and curling home a fine finish. Power, pace, confidence and finesse - this goal was Collymore-esque. The game ended on a sombre note however, as Davis' rival for man of the match, Steve Cook, limped off with a painful looking injury, and with all subs used, Forest finished the game with ten men. The Maradona of the Midlands and Rich Ferraro dissect the game, discussing memories of Jack Lester, the contributions of Yates and Surridge, and Steve Cooper's tactical tweaks. Pre, during and post match reaction from Kai at The Den as #Fulham run out 2-1 winners. #Millwall were defeated 2-1 by Fulham in the Sky Bet Championship on Tuesday night at The Den. Aleksander Mitrovic and Fabio Carvalho's goals in the opening minutes of the game ensured that the three points would head to West London and hand The Lions a first defeat of the 2021/22 campaign, despite Benik Afobe's late consolation. Gary Rowett made two changes from the side which drew 1-1 with Blackburn Rovers on Saturday afternoon, as Mahlon Romeo and Ryan Leonard came into the side at the expense of Danny McNamara and George Evans, who both dropped to the bench. George Saville had the first opportunity of the game - which was blocked - but with three minutes on the clock, Fulham took the lead after Fabio Carvalho raced down the left-hand side and cut the ball back to Mitrovic, who had no qualms in slotting home for the opening goal of the game. Five minutes later, it was two, as a through-ball allowed Carvalho to turn from provider into goalscorer and fire past Bartosz Bialkowski. After that early double-blow, The Lions made attempts to get back into the game, but were met with a strong Fulham resistance - Scott Malone at the heart of most of the attacking, but to no avail. At the other end, Neeskens Kebano looked to twist and turn past the Millwall back-line but the winger found his shot blocked by Jake Cooper, and whilst The Lions continued to advance into forward positions at the midway point of the half, their final ball was letting them down. On the half-hour mark, Fulham were able to break with the ball at the feet of Ivan Cavaleiro, but with a chance to potentially put the game to bed at his mercy, the Fulham man flashed his shot wide of Bialkowski's near post. Three minutes before the break, Kebano was able to shrug off the close attentions of Cooper and cross from a tight angle, but fortunately for The Lions, Leonard was situated in the right place to clear the danger. Cavrvalho then looked to double his tally in first-half stoppage-time, but his effort from the edge of the area was deflected wide. Rowett moved to bring Matt Smith into proceedings at half-time, changing personnel as Leonard moved to right-back and Jed Wallace to right-wing, but it could - and perhaps should - have been Fulham to put the ball in the net early in the second 45, but an outstanding double-save from Bialkowski, first from Mitrovic and then from Carvalho, kept the score at 2-0. There was another double block from The Lions, this time with 57 minutes on the clock, as after Ballard dallied in possession, not one, but two goal-bound efforts were heroically stopped by the diving bodies of the Millwall defence. Ballard then had to slide in and prevent Mitrovic from adding a third shortly after, poking the ball behind from inside the six-yard box. Jed Wallace and Smith had wayward shots off target as the hour-mark came and went, with Cooper having to come to the rescue on 76 minutes as goalscorer Carvalho raced his way into the box - the defender with a big block to prevent Bialkowski being tested. The Pole was tested with nine minutes to play as Cavaleiro twisted and turned inside the area before unleashing a vicious attempt towards goal that the stopper had to beat away, before The Lions' best chance of the game came on 82 minutes, but Smith nodded Murray Wallace's header inches over the bar. With three minutes remaining, Afobe was able to get his first Lions goal as he turned Smith's header over Paulo Gazzaniga and into the net, with the striker then shooting straight at the stopper, before Cooper's header went over as a late rally proved to be not quite enough.
