With the scores still 0-0 in the 60th minute, Nuneaton Borough called upon an unlikely player to take a penalty in their Southern Premier Central clash with Stratford Town – step forward goalkeeper Tony Breeden. Subscribe to Guardian Football ► http://is.gd/GuardianFootball The unusual choice did not pay off, with Breeden hitting the penalty high and wide into the stands, smashing a light in the process. The miss did not prove too costly for Nuneaton, who won 2-0 thanks to a goal from defender Joel Kettle and a late penalty from Callum Powell, with Breeden standing at a safe distance at the other end of the pitch this time. Cody Parkey is the most accurate kicker of our times. You may see a kicker who can't make a field goal, but what I see is a guy who can nail the crossbar at any given moment. This is a gift that should be cherished for ages. Enshrine those shoes in Canton, for shanking the posts with consistency hasn't been seen in our lifetimes. And yes, the legend of Big Dick Nick rolls on.

An under-par Celtic display, coupled with spirited resistance from Aberdeen, contributed to a tight League Cup final. Aberdeen emerge from this game with credit but Celtic demonstrated that valuable commodity of earning victory when not at peak level. A single-goal victory means Rodgers retains his record of winning every Scottish competition placed in front of him. The first half was most notable for a sickening incident. Gary Mackay-Steven leapt to connect with a Shay Logan cross, but the Aberdeen winger was instead involved in a clash of heads with Dedryck Boyata. The reaction of other players illustrated what trouble Mackay-Steven was in; after six minutes of treatment he left the field on a stretcher. Boyata was able to play on, albeit with head heavily bandaged. Celtic v Aberdeen: Scottish League Cup final – live! Read more Aberdeen’s plan to sit deep and frustrate Celtic had largely worked during that opening period. Tom Rogic clipped an Aberdeen post with a 20-yard effort and James Forrest screwed wide but Celtic were pretty punchless. Not that Aberdeen offered much more in a taut first half, save a Dominic Ball effort which flew high over the crossbar. Perhaps there was no surprise, then, that Celtic’s breakthrough arrived by virtue of going back to basics during lengthy stoppage time. Boyata lofted the ball from halfway towards Ryan Christie, whose run from midfield was not matched by Graeme Shinnie. Christie’s first shot was smartly saved by Joe Lewis but the Celtic player retained his footing sufficiently to scoop the rebound into Aberdeen’s net. The second half was considerably more open. There was also controversy; that Celtic were awarded a penalty for an alleged Ball handling offence was wrong both because there was no such infringement and said incident occurred outside the penalty area. Lewis partly spared the blushes of Andrew Dallas, the referee, by batting Scott Sinclair’s spot-kick away. Jozo Simunovic, in his first action after replacing the injured Boyata, shanked an attempted clearance against his own bar. Filip Benkovic and Sinclair came close to doubling Celtic’s lead. Aberdeen lacked nothing whatsoever in character but, not for the first time this season, hardly looked potent. Set-pieces appeared Aberdeen’s best hope of salvation; from one, Scott McKenna flicked a header narrowly wide. Bacuna scores 50-yard own goal against Stoke... on Huddersfield debut Published: 03:32 EDT, 29 August 2018 | Updated: 07:39 EDT, 29 August 2018 Juninho Bacuna submitted a contender for the all-time most spectacular own goal on Tuesday night as he compounded Huddersfield Town's Carabao Cup defeat by Stoke City with an accidental 50-yard lob. The Terriers were losing 1-0 with just seconds left on the clock when Bacuna tried to launch a final attack with a volleyed lump upfield. However, he completely miscued the effort and sent it sailing towards the wrong goal. Huddersfield's goalkeeper Jonas Lossl was already well off of his line as they threw caution to the wind and the ball disastrously sailed over his head and bounced into the empty net. A quite staggering own goal started when Stoke cleared their lines against Huddersfield Juninho Bacuna attempted to volley the ball back up the field in the dying minutes of the game But the Dutch defender shanked his attempts to clear to ball and it flew towards his own net Jonas Lossl, up the pitch in an attempt to ... --------------------- DONT FORGET SUBSCRIBE FOR ME : https://goo.gl/r8kgfa
The Arizona Bowl is not typically the type of game where fans storm the field.Certainly not for a team that finished 7-6.But this has been a long, arduous wait for New Mexico State fans. All those losing seasons, all that disappointment, all that time between bowl games.Larry Rose III scored on a 21-yard run in overtime and New Mexico State won in its first bowl game in 57 years, beating Utah State 26-20 in the Arizona Bowl on Friday night.”I’m just thrilled for these kids and this community,” New Mexico State coach Doug Martin.”Just look at these fans who showed up here. This is an unbelievable day for us.Utah State (6-7) had the ball first in overtime and Dominik Eberle hit the right upright on a 29-yard field goal attempt, sending a groan through the Utah State crowd.Eberle made 16 for 18 field goals during the regular season, but missed three in the Arizona Bowl.New Mexico State won it when Jones burst through a hole on the left side, sending the Aggies and their fans rushing onto the Arizona Stadium field.Jones finished with 142 yards on 16 carries.”He’s my field goal kicker.I love that kid and he’s been really consistent all year,” Utah State coach Matt Wells said.”Was I surprised? Yes.Was I disappointed in him? Not one bit.” The third Arizona Bowl started with some early fireworks on special teams.Utah State’s Savon Scarver returned a kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter, then New Mexico State’s Jason Huntley took the ensuing kickoff 100 yards for a score. The excitement leveled off considerably until LaJuan Hunt scored on a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter, set up by a shanked punt from New Mexico State’s Payton Theisler.New Mexico State’s Tyler Rogers, held in check most of the game, answered by moving the Aggies on a 69-yard scoring drive, capped by his 11-yard touchdown pass to Jaleel Scott that tied it at 20.A video review overturned the initial call that Scott was out of bounds.Rogers, who was second nationally with 347 yards passing per game during the regular season, threw for 191 yards and touchdown with two interceptions. This was a rematch 57 years in the making.New Mexico State had not been to a bowl game since the 1960 Sun Bowl. The opponent: Utah State.Utah State went to eight bowls after that, including six of the last seven.New Mexico State went into a bowl-less tailspin, finishing with a losing record 44 times since that last bowl game.It had 14 straight losing seasons, including a 0-12 mark in 2005, before winning its final two games this season to finally get back to bowling. The long-awaited rematch turned into the Special Teams Bowl in the first half.New Mexico State’s Dylan Brown made two field goals, Eberle made two and missed two, and each team had a kickoff return for a touchdown. After a third quarter of defensive stops and punting, both teams found the end zone to send the game overtime – and, later, New Mexico State’s fans onto the field.”I thought it was a fairly clean game and pretty aggressive on b
