Arsenal Vs Watford: London Cannon Wins Again, Now Overtakes MU
Run of the Game: Arsenal had scored in the seventh minute through Bukayo Saka. A VAR review annulled the goal, which declared Saka in an offside position when he grabbed the ball from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, as Nicolas Nkoulou was the last man in the Watford defense despite Ben Foster's exit. Arsenal were able to penetrate the Watford penalty box several times through short passes. The moment ended without a goal as the Watford defenders quickly made a tackle before the ball was shot by Arsenal players. Until the game runs for half an hour, Watford have not been able to let go of the experiment. The team's efforts made by Claudio Ranieri through counter-attacks ran aground several times when entering the final third of Arsenal's defense. Arsenal were awarded a penalty in the 36th minute after Danny Rose hit Alexandre Lacazette. Aumabeyang stepped up as the executor, but his shot was parried by Ben Foster. Ben White tried to penetrate into the penalty box, but was blocked by opposing players and a wild ball was grabbed by Emile Smith Rowe, who slid into the bottom left corner of Foster's goal. Arsenal had scored again. The referee again annulled it because Aubameyang was in an offside position when he poked the ball in front of the goal mouth. Arsenal attack wave continues to increase. Several shots were fired, but none were on target. Watford even had time to almost equalize the score in the 85th minute. Joshua King managed to capitalize on a miscoordinated Arsenal back line and overcame Ramsdale who came out of the box to shoot from a tight angle, but the ball still hit the outside of the net. Watford had to play with 10 men in the 89th minute. Juraj Kucka was given a second yellow card after violating Nuno Tavarez. There are no additional goals on the side of time. Emile Smith Rowe's second-half goal was enough to give us victory in Mikel Arteta's 100th game in charge. We had to work hard for all three points though, after a missed penalty in the first half and disallowed goals either side of the break. After a minute's silence ahead of Remembrance Sunday next week, we made a promising start at the Emirates. Ainsley Maitland-Niles was the only change to the side that beat Leicester last weekend, replacing the injured Thomas Partey in midfield. And his clever pass to Alexandre Lacazette inside the box led to us having the ball in the net after just seven minutes, but it was ruled out by VAR. Lacazette's lob found Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, from him the ball bobbled to Bukayo Saka, but replays clearly showed his was offside as he stroked home. The game became scrappy for a while after that, with neither side taking control. There were more yellow cards than shots in the opening half hour - two apiece - and it was a foul in the area that gave us a golden opportunity to take the lead. Lacazette was taken out in the box by Danny Rose, only for Aubameyang to see his spot kick saved by Ben Foster, who also gobbled up the rebound. Late in the half Foster also denied Gabriel well with his legs, when the big defender got his head to an inswinging Saka corner. The second half started in similar fashion, with both sides picking up more bookings before we eventually made the breakthrough. Ben White took control, surged forward towards the area before the ball fell to Smith Rowe just outside the box. His low shot found the corner, with Watford players appealing for a foul on Moussa Sissoko. The goal was given though, and Smith Rowe had scored for the third Premier League game running. We had another goal disallowed, when Aubameyang sliding in on the line to get the final touch to a Martin Odegaard shot, but the flag was quickly raised. The frustration was that it appeared as though Odegaard's shot may have gone in without Aubameyang's touch. Watford were not laying down and began to put us under more pressure in the closing stages. There was a real scare when Josh King rounded Ramsdale outside the area, found himself with an open goal but shot into the side netting. Alexandre Lacazette grabbed a late, late equaliser to salvage a point against Palace. In a topsy-turvy game, we had looked to be in control after taking an early lead through Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. But two mistakes in the midfield after the break were ruthlessly punished by Palace, leaving us staring at the prospect of a fourth league defeat of the season. But with virtually the very last kick of the game, substitute Lacazette was in the right place to tuck home the loose ball from close range when Ben White's shot was parried. In the end we had to settle for a point, but it looked like being so much more than that after a promising start. Having waited an extra couple of days to return to action after the latest international break, we were raring to go early on, taking the game to our visitors from the off. The early pressure soon paid off, and it was the skipper who got the opener. Takehiro Tomiyasu and Nicolas Pepe exchanged passes on the edge of the area before the latter forced a diving save from Vicente Guaita. Aubameyang was in the right place to volley home left footed at the far post. It was no more than we deserved from a lively start. We kept the intensity up, but Emile Smith Rowe's low shot aside, couldn't extend our advantage, failing to build on the early lead. In fact it was Palace who slowly grew into the game, and the forward trio of Christian Benteke, Jordan Ayew and Odsonne Edouard were beginning to unsettle our defence. And just on the stroke of half-time Aaron Ramsdale had to be alert to tip Conor Gallagher's long-range effort just wide. Bukayo Saka - on the end of a nasty looking kick from James McArthur earlier in the first half - could not return after the interval and was replaced by Sambi Lokonga. Within five minutes of the restart Palace were level. Thomas Partey was caught in possession outside the box, Benteke took the ball on and finished smartly low to Ramsdale's left. Palace were on top now, and Ayew stung Ramsdale's gloves from 20 yards. Mikel Arteta sent on Alexandre Lacazette for the last 20 minutes or so and the Frenchman immediately set up a chance for Smith Rowe, but he fluffed his shot. Lacazette was then set up wonderfully by Aubameyang – Laca's shot was kept out by a full-stretch Guaita save. But it was Palace who struck next, again making the most of sloppy play from Arsenal. This time Lokonga was dispossessed, Palace broke and Edouard lashed in off the underside of the bar. Kieran Tierney rattled the crossbar from close range late on, and it looked as though it would be former Gunner Patrick Vieira and his side who would take the spoils. But then Lacazette made his late, late intervention. Deep into the last minute of injury time we won a corner. #Sambi continued his impressive start to life at #Arsenal and did his chance for further opportunities no harm. He only played 62 minutes after he had come back from International duty with a slight injury concern and he bossed the midfield for #AFC. He also finished with the most passes [52]. His vision and distribution were superb. He's still a raw talent but Mikel Arteta and his coaching staff must be salivating at the potential they can still unlock in him. What a talent. What a player.
