Horner verbaasd over publiek: "Nog nooit zo'n reactie gezien in mijn carrière" | GPFans News

Is Red Bull under attack from in-season F1 rule changes?
Is Red Bull under attack from in-season F1 rule changes?

F1 has been through a spell of rules clarifications in recent weeks, from flexi-wings, to tyre pressures and pitstops speeds. And Red Bull has detected a theme behind all of those - as they seem to be aimed at the championship leading-team that has finally come good in 2021. Is that theory credible, and should Red Bull feel like it's being attacked because of its success? Scott Mitchell looks into each case to see if there really could be something behind all of these rule tweaks - and where they might be coming from in the first place. Bottas Admits He Was “Surprised” Wolff Blamed Him For Pit Stop Error
Bottas Admits He Was “Surprised” Wolff Blamed Him For Pit Stop Error

Monaco was a forgettable race for Mercedes especially during the pit-stops. While Lewis Hamilton lost three places because he was called in too soon, Valtteri Bottas’ pit stop turned out to be worse. Bottas’ race would come to an early end because the team would fail to remove one of his tyres due to a machined wheel-nut. In the aftermath, team principal Toto Wolff had suggested that Bottas had also played a role in the pit-stop mishap as he hadn’t stopped in the designated spot and that had forced the mechanic to use his wrench at an angle leading to the machined wheel nut. Bottas has now responded to this while addressing the media during Thursday’s press conference I'm your host Dillon Shelley and first up on Formula World: Link to poll: https://www.youtube.com/post/UgyveyT52cAAGING_q14AaABCQ 0:00 - Does Bottas Agree With Wolff Blaming Him For Botched Pit Stop? 2:09 - Fast Feed Bottas began by talking about his mental strength being tested “In the beginning of the season, definitely the mental strength has been tested. It's not been the easiest ride to start with, in the last few races, having two DNFs. So, I would say there have been setbacks and it's all about how you bounce back from those and how you move forward” “The loser option is to give up and it's not something I'm going to do. So still keeping very strong mentally and knowing that it's a long, long season ahead and for sure many good battles to come and hopefully many wins” Bottas then responded to Wolff’s analysis that he hadn’t stopped in the right spot during the failed pitstop “Yes, I was surprised! I saw the video and for me, it was pretty spot on where I stopped, so yeah, I was quite surprised” He then elaborated on how he had already had concerns with regards to pit-stops and that he had raised those concerns with the team a few weeks ago “As a matter of fact, [pit stops were] one of my concerns already a few weeks [before] that I'd raised to the team, so it didn't come from somewhere out of the blue. We knew that we were not perfect in pit stops, as we've seen, and also other areas like tyre warm-up in qualifying” He signed off by reiterating that his accuracy was pretty good “I think I was, like, 2-3cm off the central line, and if you get that accuracy, normally it's pretty good. It can easily swing by 10-15cm, so I thought it was pretty spot-on” Fast Feed Red Bull’s Max Verstappen has reiterated that “winning Monaco is very special, but [they] want to be in this exact position in Abu Dhabi, which [he knows] will be very hard” He added that “[Baku] is very different [to Monaco as Baku] has a bit more space, it’s very slippery around here” Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton pointed out that “it is hot [in Baku]. There are multiple reasons why [Mercedes] aren’t great at Monaco” Similarly, “there are some tight sections [in Baku] where [they] will physically just lose out. But in the past here, [they’ve] been OK. So, [he hopes] this weekend it is close” Alpine’s Fernando Alonso is “happy with Sundays [but] not happy with Saturdays” since his return to F1 this year He further pointed out how he has “been in the points two times, and the three times [he] wasn’t in the points, [they’ve] finished a few tenths off the points” He is “not too worried in terms of performance. And in terms of happiness, or how [he feels] coming back, it’s better than expected” He added that “the two years out of the sport was needed for [him] after 18 seasons in Formula 1 non-stop. The full dedication, it was too demanding at one point” Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton feels that “it doesn't really matter what [he thinks] about” Red Bull’s flexible rear wings He added that “it is what it is. They're approved based on current testing methods and they're valid this weekend. So [Mercedes] can't do much against it” Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, meanwhile, “can understand people complaining, but it's all within the rules so far” “There's nothing wrong with it. Of course, [other teams] try to slow [them] down” Max suggested He also thinks that they “have to look at the whole picture. The most important and dominant part of the car is the front and [Red Bull’s doesn't] bend there as much as other teams” McLaren driver Lando Norris’ “focus is on this weekend and getting a top-three result again” He also added that he “wasn't even aware of” the statistic that he is the only driver on the grid who has a top 10 finish in every race since the Italian GP last year Norris added that “it sounds good. Hopefully, that doesn't jinx it” He also revealed that “this year's car is different. You have to drive it differently and [he’s] still learning at every race” “The transition from 2020 to 2021 was not easy. And [he] can't drive the car the way [he] would like to. You have to adapt to that” Norris stated Will Norris be on the podium in Baku?

Lando Norris Says They Got "F****d Over" By "S**t Rule"
Lando Norris Says They Got "F****d Over" By "S**t Rule"

The race at Monza produced one of the unlikeliest podiums ever with a punter reportedly winning €33,398 on a bet worth 20 cents by correctly predicting this result. The podium consisting of Alpha Tauri’s Pierre Gasly, McLaren’s Carlos Sainz, and Racing Point’s Lance Stroll has been lauded by many as one of the most exciting in a long time and it came off the back of some really unique circumstances. One of these happened to be the red flag which essentially gave Lance Stroll a free pit stop. One man who is not too happy about all this is McLaren’s Lando Norris who just missed out on a podium and he has now let his displeasure be known Link to poll: https://www.youtube.com/post/UgwtupJilVc11vSsllx4AaABCQ 0:00 - “Stupid Rule” Gifted Stroll Lucky Podium 2:13 - Fast Feed It all began during the post-race radio communications with his team “I think we just got f****d over a bit with the red flag and Stroll getting the new tires. A bit of a s**t rule in my opinion but it is what it is“ In the post-race interviews, Norris would add to that. He started off by explaining how he couldn’t have done any more “I was very happy with what I did. I don't think I could have done any more. I kept the Mercedes behind for the whole second stint and they qualified one second ahead of us” He then went over how the red flag led to benefits for some “I got no chance really to get past Stroll unless he makes a massive mistake which he didn't do. So, I think I did the best job I could today. As a team we did the best we could. We just got screwed over a little bit with the red flag and people benefiting” He further elaborated on how Stroll got a free pit stop “It could have been a better result if we didn't have that red flag because I think we could have been ahead of Gasly and we could have been ahead of Stroll especially because he didn't have to do a pitstop. He just got a free tire change” He then criticized the rule that allowed Stroll to change tires under the red flag conditions without having to pit again “It’s a bit of a stupid rule and we just lost out because of that” Gasly also benefitted from the red flag and would go on to win the race but Norris explained why that wasn’t as unfair as Lance Stroll getting on the podium “Some people like Pierre Gasly, who obviously drove very well at the same time but he boxed before and he came out [ahead] and that's the way it is. I think that's more fair but for someone who doesn't have to do a pit stop, it's kind of too much of a benefit let's say” “I guess I'm a bit annoyed with that because [I had] a chance to be on the podium for us as a team with Carlos” Fast Feed Honda F1 Managing Director Masashi Yamamoto is “still very grateful to” Toro Rosso who would become Alpha Tauri “for believing in Honda's potential” in 2018 As “at that time, Honda was a racehorse without speed and prone to injury” He further added that he has “no doubt that Honda was rescued by Toro Rosso/AphaTauri. It hasn't been an easy road but the relationship between” them “is more than just a team and an engine supplier” and “that it's mutual love” He also revealed that “of the four drivers” in the Red Bull family, they “have been working with Pierre the longest. The relationship started during the Japanese Super Formula in 2017” He also feels that Pierre Gasly “has a very smart and open personality” Former F1 driver turned commentator Martin Brundle pointed out that “only Ferrari had a worse day than Red Bull” at Monza He further elaborated on how “Max Verstappen had a poor start and dropped out in lap 30 with technical gremlins” and Alex Albon ended up “being 15 of 16 runners, whilst having to soak up Gasly, the man he replaced, winning the race” Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has explained that “if you create a power mode for the whole race, the drivers don't have that extra to overtake. That makes it more difficult” He also added that “this applies to the big teams as well as the small teams. That's probably why you saw fewer overtaking actions” Former F1 driver Nick Heidfeld thinks that “Pierre Gasly won sensationally at Monza” He also finds it “especially interesting when you consider that he was no match for Verstappen at Red Bull last year and was transferred back to Alpha Tauri” Simon Roberts, who has worked at McLaren and Force India in the past has been named as the acting team principal “for Williams during this transitional period” Pirelli boss Mario Isola thinks that “as with any new venue, Mugello represents a bit of an unknown for most of the drivers and an entirely clean sheet of paper when it comes to strategy” Renault’s Daniel Ricciardo feels that “being faster than Mercedes was surprising” during the Italian GP He further explained how Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas “wasn't very fast for Mercedes terms” as he “expected him to come back, but that didn't happen” Should changing tyres under a red flag be banned?
