The Giants Need to Make a Move
The Giants Need to Make a Move

The San Francisco Giants are in trouble — and the questions are starting to pile up around Buster Posey's front office tenure. In this segment, the guys break down the growing concern around Posey's bold but backfiring moves: the Rafael Devers trade, the Willy Adames signing, the Matt Chapman extension, and now the surprise Patrick Bailey trade to Cleveland. Is this a team that knows what it's doing — or one spinning out of control less than a year into a new regime? Ken Rosenthal called it "subtraction by addition," and it's hard to argue with that right now. The Giants rank among the worst offenses in baseball — fewest home runs, fewest walks, and a historically low walk rate. Devers is finally waking up in May, Willy Adames is creeping back above .200, but the roster construction still doesn't make sense. And then there's Bryce Eldridge — a top prospect called up to the big club and barely getting any at-bats. If you bring him up, you have to play him. The hosts lay it all out — and argue the Giants have two realistic options right now: move Jung Ho Lee back to center and make Casey Schmidt the right fielder, or trade Matt Chapman to clear the logjam. Otherwise, the front office is just spinning its wheels while wasting a prospect's development time. Topics discussed include: Buster Posey's front office moves — bold or reckless? The Devers, Adames, and Chapman contracts — stuck or salvageable? Patrick Bailey traded to Cleveland — what does it mean for Giants catching? Bryce Eldridge called up but barely playing — a development disaster? Jung Ho Lee, Casey Schmidt, and the Giants' roster crunch Ken Rosenthal's "subtraction by addition" take on San Francisco Do you think Buster Posey is the right guy to run this team — or is this thing already going off the rails? On the May 11th, 2026 edition of 580 Sports Talk with Dan and Spencer: -The Royals finished up a winning homestand with a weekend series victory over the Tigers. So why does it feel like a bit of a letdown? Sunday's loss ends the week with the feeling that the Royals left some meat on the bone -The Royals are now 41 games into their season, that point in the season where former GM Dayton Moore always said you started to know what kind of team you have. So what kind of team do the Royals have? Somewhat surprisingly, it's one being carried by their offense -A ranking of NFL rosters has the Chiefs in a familiar place inside the top 5 - but is that too lofty given last year's 6-11 finish and the uncertainty over Patrick Mahomes' injury? -NFL Insider Matt Verderame of Sports Illustrated joins the show Follow 580 Sports Talk on Twitter: twitter.com/580sportstalk and Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/580sportstal... Kody Clemens had three hits and Kendry Rojas earned his first major league win with a strong outing in relief as the Minnesota Twins held off the Cleveland Guardians 5-4 on Sunday. Brooks Lee hit a tiebreaking single in a four-run fifth inning for the Twins, who took two of three in the series from their AL Central rivals. Guardians manager Stephen Vogt was sent home hours before the first pitch due to lingering respiratory issues. Tony Arnerich filled in as acting manager. Making his second career appearance, Rojas (1-0) struck out five and walked three over 3 1/3 innings. He allowed one run and five hits. The 23-year-old left-hander from Cuba entered to begin the second inning after opener Andrew Morris worked a 1-2-3 first. Yoendrys Gómez pitched a perfect ninth for his third big league save and second this season. Brayan Rocchio went 4 for 4 and scored twice for Cleveland, setting a career high for hits. Gavin Williams (5-3) gave up five runs and 10 hits in six innings. He struck out six and walked one. | https://www.espn.com/mlb/recap/_/gameId/401815287 Subscribe and ring the bell for the latest talk about the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Guardians, Cleveland Cavaliers and Ohio State Buckeyes: https://bit.ly/ucss_subscribe Follow on Twitter: https://twitter.com/ultclesports Watch live on YouTube 11 a.m.-1 p.m. weekdays on YouTube and WKYC+ on your Roku and Fire TV apps!
