Peter Withe scores Nottingham Forest’s fifth goal against Sheffield United at The City Ground, Nottingham, during this memorable Football League encounter played on 9th October 1976. This footage captures a wonderful moment from the early Brian Clough and Peter Taylor era at Nottingham Forest, as Forest produced an attacking display full of confidence, movement and clinical finishing in front of a packed City Ground crowd. As Forest pressed forward deep into the second half, quick passing around the edge of the penalty area pulled the Sheffield United defence out of shape before Peter Withe calmly finished to make it 5-1 to the Reds. The City Ground crowd erupted as Forest completed one of their most entertaining performances of the season. Peter Withe, who would later go on to achieve major success in English football, was already showing the strength, composure and finishing ability that made him such an important attacking player. His intelligent positioning and composed finish capped off an excellent team performance from Nottingham Forest. Sheffield United battled throughout the match, but Forest’s pace, passing and attacking movement proved too much on the day. January 19 1997 Rip Hamilton Paul Pierce Raef LaFrentz Jacque Vaughn The number one team in the nation, the Kansas Jayhawks, roll into the state of Connecticut at the worst possible time for UCONN. The school was in what was expected to be a rebuilding year, and had just suspended its two leading scorers, Kirk King and Ricky Moore. King would never play for UCONN again. With that being said, the words “roll over” didn’t exist in the lexicon of a team coached by Jim Calhoun. Instead of packing it in and accepting their fate, the UCONN Huskies threw everything they had at the experienced, loaded number one team in the nation. Led by 18 year old freshman Richard Hamilton and Rashmael Jones, UCONN kept it close, despite Paul Pierce, Jacque Vaughn, and Raef LaFrentz’s best efforts. Fans attending at the Hartford Civic Center got their money’s worth.
