HIGHLIGHTS | Arsenal vs Manchester City (1-1, 4-1 on pens) | Trossard equalises in stoppage time!

Late drama at Wembley saw us clinch our 17th Community Shield by beating Manchester City 4-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes. An excellent first half from Mikel Arteta’s team, featuring three debutants in Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber and Kai Havertz saw them do everything but score, with the latter twice forcing Stefan Ortega into saves with his feet to keep a lacklustre City in the game. But after the break, Pep Guardiola’s team improved and they grabbed the only goal when substitute Cole Palmer curled home a shot on 77 minutes to seemingly hand City the silverware, but in the 11th minute of second-half stoppage-time, Leandro Trossard saw a shot strike Manuel Akanji and trickle into the net to set up a penalty shootout. After Kevin de Bruyne hit the crossbar and Aaron Ramsdale saved from Rodri, Fabion Vieria fired home the winning kick to cap a dramatic comeback and allow Martin Odegaard to hoist the silverware. A hugely encouraging first half saw us enjoy the better chances and look the more dangerous in attack, while nullifying City to a couple of half-chances. The reigning Treble holders had the first efforts of the game when Rodri saw a low shot blocked by Declan Rice and dribble just wide of the base of the post, and the same fate befell Julian Alvarez soon after. But we grew into the game as it developed and on 25 minutes we carved out our first great opportunity when Ben White cut inside on the right and picked out Havertz in the box. The German spun and got a shot away which was saved by the outstretched boot of Ortega, and then Gabriel Martinelli’s rebound was blocked by the chest of John Stones. Havertz was enjoying his first outing in an Arsenal shirt as he regularly provided an outlet at the spearhead of our attack, and his physical presence caused the City defence plenty of issues. He came even closer to getting his first Gunners goal when we again found joy down the right through Bukayo Saka whose cutback from the byline allowed Havertz to pull the trigger, but he was again denied by the reaction of Ortega. Guardiola’s team’s frustrations were summed up when Rodri attempted an audacious effort from the halfway line but failed to catch Aaron Ramsdale out, as the champions went in fortunate not to be behind. Our dominance in possession initially continued after the break, but the opening 20 minutes after the restart saw chances dry up for both teams, although John Stones forced Ramsdale to make a good stop when he met a corner with his head. The lack of attacking prowess saw Guardiola opt to withdraw the quiet Erling Haaland for Cole Palmer, and the youngster was found in space in the box midway through the second half but an excellent block by Jurrien Timber snuffed the chance out. But on 77 minutes we weren’t so lucky the second time around when the same man got a similar opportunity from a similar area. After City had countered through Phil Foden, a fortunate rebound allowed Kevin de Bruyne - so often the thorn in our side - to find the young attacker managed who curled the ball around the outstretched Ramsdale to hand his team the lead. With the lead in their grasp, City began to turn the screw and only two great stops by Ramsdale kept us in contention; firstly staying big when Foden was found in close range and managed to divert his attempt, and from the resulting corner he managed to shovel away Rodri’s near post header. During a lengthy period of second-half stoppage-time, we pushed hard for an equaliser, and in the 101st minute we forced a corner and Trossard tried his luck from the edge of the area, and saw his shot cannon off Akanji and deceive Ortega to hand us a shot at glory via a penalty shootout. #arsenal Enjoy match highlights, training and behind the scenes to get closer to the likes of Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Emile Smith Rowe, Vivianne Miedema, Gabriel Jesus, Alex Zinchenko, Leah Williamson, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Kim Little, Gabriel Martinelli, Aaron Ramsdale, Beth Mead, Ben White and more. HIGHLIGHTS | Arsenal vs AS Monaco (1-1) | Emirates Cup | Nketiah
HIGHLIGHTS | Arsenal vs AS Monaco (1-1) | Emirates Cup | Nketiah

We rounded off pre-season by beating Monaco 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw, with Gabriel netting the all-important spot-kick to seal the silverware. Arsene Wenger was the guest of honour on the night as two of his former clubs went head to head, and French international Youssouf Fofana opened the scoring just after the half-hour mark, however captain for the day Eddie Nketiah managed to restore parity just before the break when he converted a Gabriel Martinelli corner. Another 45 minutes failed to separate the sides, meaning a shootout was required to decide the destiny of the trophy and we managed to convert all five of our efforts, with Aaron Ramsdale saving from Takumi Minamino to ensure we lifted the trophy for the seventh time. A packed house were treated to first Emirates Stadium starts in our colours for Jurrien Timber and Declan Rice, but proceedings took a while to warm up with Aaron Ramsdale’s low save from an Aleksandr Golovin shot the only thing for the 60,000 in attendance to get excited by in the opening quarter. Martinelli was looking sharp however, and the Brazilian was involved in all our best moments of the opening 45 minutes, including an intricate passing move that involved Rice, Fabio Vieira and Nketiah, but the striker was in an offside position when he headed narrowly over. Nketiah went close again after Martinelli tricked his way past right-back Vanderson and got to the byline but the opportunity went begging, and on 31 minutes we slipped behind when Vanderson found himself at the other end, and his cross-shot was diverted into the top corner by the head of Fofana, leaving Ramsdale helpless. The setback seemed to sharpen us up, and we found ourselves in the attacking third much more regularly in the final stages of the half, creating a flurry of chances that would see us get back on level terms before the break. On 42 minutes Takehiro Tomiyasu found Rice on the edge of the box who nudged it past two defenders to seemingly look destined to score, but an excellent sliding challenge by Guillermo Maripin blocked his shot. Then from the resulting corner, Tomiyasu’s powerful header was excellently pushed over his crossbar by Philipp Koln, but the opposition shot-stopper was powerless to prevent us scoring seconds later. Another Martinelli flag kick was sent towards the back post, and Nketiah ghosted between two defenders to create the simple task of tucking the ball into the net to mark his moment with the armband in style. Arteta opted not to change his line-up at the interval, but his troops started sluggishly and were fortunate not to fall behind again when Caio Henrique sped down the left and centred for Wissam Ben Yedder who slid in and struck the post, with the rebound ricocheting off the back of Ramsdale but trickled the right side of the post. Just after the hour mark the pack was shuffled and amongst seven changes Kai Havertz was brought on for his first taste of the Emirates as an Arsenal player, and two other replacements went close soon after. Leandro Trossard scampered through a hole in the defence searching for his fourth goal of the summer but drove the ball straight at Kohn, with Martin Odegaard curling over from the edge of the area as he attempted his trademark strike. But the Emirates Cup remained in the balance and only a flying Ramsdale save prevented Monaco going back ahead when Myron Boadu blasted goalwards, while at the other end a decent Vieira downwards volley had to be tipped over by Kohn, meaning penalties would be needed to decide the victor. HIGHLIGHTS | Arsenal v FC Barcelona (5-3) | Saka, Havertz, Trossard x2, Vieira

We twice came from behind to ensure a winning end to our summer US tour. Inside the magnificent, sold out SoFi Stadium in LA, Barcelona took the lead early on through Robert Lewandowski, before Bukayo Saka drew us level. Saka then missed a penalty in an eventful first-half, before the Spaniards retook the lead through a deflected Raphinha free-kick. Kai Havertz was in the right place at the far post to turn home Martin Odegaard’s header to level things up again before the break and we deservedly went ahead when Leandro Trossard arrowed home his shot from just inside the area. Trossard scored his second, finishing from Kieran Tierney's cross, before Ferran Torres briefly brought Barcelona back into it. But Fabio Vieira ensured the scoreline had the gloss we deserved with a stunner late on. HIGHLIGHTS | MLS All-Stars v Arsenal (0-5) | Gabriel Jesus, Trossard, Jorginho, Martinelli, Havertz

Excellent goals from Gabriel Jesus, Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz – as well as a Jorginho penalty – gave us a richly-deserved win in the MLS All-Star match in Washington. We repeated our success of 2016, when we triumphed 2-1 in this showpiece fixture in San Jose, but this was a much more comfortable win. In fact it’s the biggest winning margin against the MLS All-Stars since 2000, and was the perfect way to get our series of three fixtures in the USA underway. Following the pre-match show of fireworks, pyrotechnics, the national anthem and a flyover, it took less than five minutes for Jesus to prove that Arsenal were the main attraction tonight. We dominated possession in the opening exchanges, before Bukayo Saka was released by a raking Jorginho pass. He found Jesus just outside the box, and the Brazilian clipped a delightful first-time chip over the keeper and just under the cross bar. Cheered on by the vast majority of the sell out 20,000 crowd inside Audi Field, we continued to dictate proceedings, and scored another stunner midway through the half. Saka – who would win the MVP award – again caused trouble by cutting inside from the right wing before sliding his pass across to Trossard. The Belgian shifted it onto his right foot then cracked home from 20 yards, giving Roman Burki no chance. The All-Stars, managed by Wayne Rooney, made a host of changes as early as the 30th minute, with former Premier League striker, and star of host club DC United, Christian Benteke among those taken off. On the stroke of half-time the impressive Trossard struck a free kick just wide, but we were good value for our two-goal lead at the break. Havertz, Martin Odegaard and Karl Hein were all introduced at half-time, and within seconds of the restart we increased our lead after being given a penalty for handball. Jorginho tucked away from 12 yards in typical fashion, leaving the keeper flat footed, and rolling it home into the corner. With 25 minutes remaining, Mikel Arteta sent on Declan Rice for his first appearance in an Arsenal shirt. Jurrien Timber also came on for his non-competitive debut, playing at right back with Ben White moving to the centre. Both were heartily cheered whenever in possession. We continued to look the most likely to score, despite the wholesale changes. Odegaard’s superb pass set up our fourth goal, as he found the advancing Martinelli on the left, who took the ball into the area before dispatching his shot low into the corner. Havertz got in on the act late on, with a thunderous drive, after bringing the ball down superbly at the far post. Arsenal: Ramsdale (Hein 46), White (Trusty 80), Saliba (Timber 65), Gabriel (Tomiyasu 65), Kiwior (Tierney 65), Jorginho (Rice 65), Trossard (Martinelli 56), Vieira (Marquinhos 65), Saka (Havertz 46), Nketiah (Odegaard 46), Jesus (Balogun 65). "I’ve always been a fan of Arsenal!" | Jurrien Timber's first Arsenal interview | Part 1
"I’ve always been a fan of Arsenal!" | Jurrien Timber's first Arsenal interview | Part 1

As a youngster at Ajax, Jurrien Timber was asked what his ambitions were for the next five years. He replied that he wanted to be in the Ajax first team and then leave for England or Spain. When pressed on what club he would like to join, he simply stated: ‘I’ve always been a fan of Arsenal.’ Today he realised that dream, becoming our second signing of the summer after starring for Ajax and the Dutch national team last season. Explaining his love of the club, Jurrien said: “It was because of my brothers. They were always Arsenal fans, and I just loved seeing Arsenal play. They had big players, the way they played, the style. I just love the club. “I had this from a young age, but my brothers kind of put that in me. I liked watching Robin van Persie of course, and Thierry Henry. They were my favourite players.” The 22-year-old defender, who made more than 120 appearances for the Ajax first team over the past three years, arrives with a burgeoning reputation, and is delighted to be making his first move out of Dutch football. “There are a couple of players [who have come here from Ajax], but there have been not a lot. So I think it's special to be here as an Ajax player and it’s special that they notice you and they see me as the player I am. “I’m really excited, especially now I'm here. Everyone is so nice and you can see it's a big club. I'm excited to play for this beautiful club, and I can't wait to start, and to see the fans obviously in the stadium.” Comfortable playing either centrally or the right side of defence, Jurrien said he doesn’t have a preference where he operates, and thinks his style will be perfectly suited to Arsenal and the Premier League. “I think that I'm lucky to say that I can play as a central defender, as a right full-back, sometimes even on the midfield,” he explained. “So I think that's a good thing and I need to keep that. “I just like the way Arsenal play, is a bit similar to Ajax’s style and I like to play from the back. I can see a lot of similarities, especially in the way Arsenal and Ajax want to play." #arsenal Enjoy match highlights, training and behind the scenes to get closer to the likes of Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Emile Smith Rowe, Vivianne Miedema, Gabriel Jesus, Alex Zinchenko, Leah Williamson, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Kim Little, Gabriel Martinelli, Aaron Ramsdale, Beth Mead, Ben White and more.
