Montreal Canadiens lose 5-3 to the Hurricanes, why are fans worrying about Lane Hutson?
Inside today's Locked on Canadiens The Montreal Canadiens lost a hard-fought game to the Carolina Hurricanes, overcoming a multi-goal deficit in the first period and pushing the Canes to their limit before losing 5-3. Scott breaks down the good, the bad and the ugly in his game recap. While this trip has always been one riddled with apprehension and poor showings, Scott thinks the Habs can flip the script this season and maybe conquer some of their past demons. He takes a look at what we can expect in these games, and why it's important for Montreal to continue their path towards erasing their previous history with rival teams. Finally, it's been a relatively quiet showing at World Juniors for Habs prospects and fans are understandably restless. Coming out of the Christmas break for the National Hockey League, Joey begins today's episode of Locked On Stars discussing the unbelievable win the Dallas Stars had against the Nashville Predators on Saturday. The Stars made history by becoming the first team to score the tying goal and go ahead goal in the final 15 seconds of regulation. Craig Smith and Jani Hakanpaa were the two goal scores along with Evgenii Dadanov to erase a two goal deficit in the 3rd period. The two biggest takeaways for Joey over the last week is tightening up defensively and being able to win from behind. The Stars lead the NHL with 12 come from behind wins this season. We then segway into a conversation about the power play that is 0 for the last 14 opportunities. Dallas has been able to win without it by holding opponents off the scoresheet on the man advantage, but it could make life much easier if they get it rolling again. Joey offers some solutions and why he thinks the power play has slipped over the past week. The show wraps up by praising Scott Wedgewood who has put up a 9-1-2 record in 12 games this season and has been an anchor since Jake Oettinger went down with an injury. He allows the Stars to be in every game and has such a great compete level since switching his mindset to being a number one goalie instead of a backup. His presence has been superb this season and a big reason why the Stars are in first place in the Central Division and top 5 in the NHL. Miro Heiskanen's BIG Night Leads Dallas Stars Over the Red Wings!
Miro Heiskanen has a three point night including two goals and an assist as the Dallas Stars take down the Detroit Red Wings 6-3. Joe Pavelski, Jason Robertson and Matt Duchene all had goals in the game and it was great that the Stars best players had good games. Jake Oettinger also had a solid night make 27 saves and picking up his 11th win of the season. Overall, it was a much better effort from the entire club than we had seen in the previous two weeks. Sam Steel continue his good stretch of play with two more assists in the game, helping the fourth line contribute offensively. The story of the night though, is the offensive display from Stars defense men who combined for seven points. Esa Lindell with a goal and an assist, Jani Hakanpaa had a assist and Joel Hanley got his first point of the season which is hopefully signs to come for a group that ranks one of the worst in point percentages in the NHL. More importantly, this win leads to a much needed two day break for the Stars after a very busy stretch of hockey against very good teams. Dallas will be back at again on Friday vs the Ottawa Senators. The New York Islanders Beat the Maple Leafs Because Bo Knows OT
The New York Islanders got a big OT goal from Bo Horvat to defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-3. The Isles blew a 3-1 lead after a very strong first 20 minutes. Ilya Sorokin kept them in the lead until the closing seconds but Bo bailed them out.
