Lakers-Clippers Preview: Paul George: Out. Anthony Davis (Probably) In. Plus, Bronny/LeBron's Future
The Lakers face a critical game tonight against the Clippers, and it comes at a time when the vibes again have turned ominous and the team needs to change the conversation almost as much as it needs wins for practical reasons. The schedule over the next few weeks (and through the end of the year, really) is brutal. Teams are starting to elevate their play, and based on what we've seen so far since the ASB, the Lakers aren't prepared to keep up. But as we've learned throughout the year, sometimes a team is just 48 minutes away from changing the mood considerably. The Lakers will get a crack at a Clippers team playing without Paul George, and that quietly is suffering through a down patch of their own. The Lakers should have Anthony Davis (though he skipped practice Tuesday with an upper respiratory issue, he's probable for tonight) and Cam Reddish, who adds size to the wing against a team where that sort of thing is very, very useful. Can Davis avoid the early foul trouble that's plagued him of late? Can the Lakers keep Ivica Zubac off the glass? These are key questions. As is the one about the lack of production of late from the supporting cast. The Lakers need more. Much more, from some (think Spencer Dinwiddie). Overall, a disappointing group needs to find its stride quickly. This, likely is the team the Lakers will have going forward, aside from the hopeful return of Christian Wood over the next week or two. Finally, Bronny James was dropped from ESPN's Mock Draft for this summer. No surprise, given the context, but still noteworthy and something that prompted a response from his pop. What to make of it? And what does any of this have to do with LeBron's future in LA, which according to reports James might want to extend longer than folks expected? Just look at that sheepish grin. Man heās the best. When Bam Adebayo inbounded the ball off his back and later in that possession hit the three, Joker went to the referee to complain about it. Dude wanted a technical called or what?! He was in a great mood, and this might have been the reason. Look at Doncic bargaining his way to his first points of the night. And Nikola loved it. Luka got an open dunk right here, and I guess he got hyped up so on the very next possession, he tried to get fancy with a self alley oop dunk, but ended as an epic fail. I mean, in a game where there is absolutely no defense, the points kind of lose their value, so the misses are almost more fun. Especially when theyāre this outrageous. Was this a wild 2 for 1 or did Luka misread the clock? Jokic thought it was so bad that he called for Luka to be subbed out. These 2 are absolutely hysterical. Look at them acting like little kids tricking Steph Curry into getting under the basket so that Nikola would dunk on him. And you know how usually if the winner is decided, we get a few crazy dunks at the very end? Well, it was Nikolaās turn last night andā¦ The Doncic and Jokic bromance is hilarious. Their type of humor and how well they feed off of each other is unlike anything weāve seen in recent years. I donāt wanna make any of these 2 fan bases mad but maaan if they played together that would be priceless. So yeah, the Sunday event was almost unwatchable, but All Star Saturday was fire, and there were even some major controversies that you may have missed. So you gotta check out this video right here.
