Non per forza deve essere legata a un successo, anzi. Spesso questi giorni, piu’ che vittorie, raccontano di episodi e di momenti che hanno stravolto la storia di un club o di un giocatore. Il Manchester City come lo conosciamo oggi, ricco, opulento e vincente nasce il pomeriggio del 20 giugno 2009. Un’estate come le altre: niente Mondiali ne’ Europei. Eppure, tutta l’attenzione della stampa inglese e non solo e’ focalizzata sull’Etihad Stadium per la prima vera campagna acquisti dei Citizens made in Abu Dhabi. Nel settembre dell’anno prima, la societa’ era passata di mano dal thailandese Shinawatra(scinawata), coinvolto in un grosso scandalo politico, al fondo della famiglia Al Nahyan (al ne ian) ovvero i regnanti degli Emirati Arabi. Una delle dinastie piu’ ricche al mondo. Il nuovo presidente Mansour (mansur) ha poco tempo per mettere in atto la sua infinita potenza di fuoco e si “limita” a un solo colpo. Strappa per 42 milioni di euro, cifra record nella storia del club, il brasiliano Robinho ai rivali del Chelsea a pochi minuti dal “gong” che segna la fine delle trattative del calciomercato 2008. Gli addetti ai lavori non possono crederci. Ed e’ solo l’inizio. Gli emiri nel 2009 vogliono consegnare a Mark Hughes, ex centravanti dei cugini dello United, un top team. E allora, ecco che si arriva al momento fatidico. Nel giro di due mesi varcano i cancelli dell’Etihad: Barry, Santa Cruz, Adebayor e Kolo Toure’. Ma la lista della spesa non finisce qui. I nuovi padroni stanno costruendo una rosa di alto livello, ma manca un vero e proprio trascinatore in attacco. Un vincente naturale, che non e’ Robinho ne’ Adebayor. Ci vorrebbe una star conosciuta e rispettata. E tra i tanti nomi, l’attenzione di tutti si focalizza su uno in particolare. E’ il profilo perfetto per Mansour: giovane, gia’ affermato, carisma da leader e grande fiuto del gol. E’ quell’attaccante che, fino a pochi giorni prima, segnava valanghe di reti ad Old Trafford ed ora sta per compiere uno dei tradimenti piu’ indimenticabili nella storia del football di Sua Maesta’.
