Un joven Pacquiao de apenas 25 años recién le había ganado a la leyenda mexicana Marco Antonio Barrera por la vía del nocaut, por lo que Pacquiao apenas comenzaba a estar en la boca de los aficionados. Para vengar a su compatriota, el campeón mexicano Juan Manuel Marquez, también conocido por su apodo el dinamita, aceptó enfrentarse en contra del peligroso prospecto filipino. Box, boxing, boxeo. Tan solo en el primer asalto del combate, Manny Pacquiao envió al campeón mexicnao 3 veces al suelo. Irse al suelo 3 veces significa perder 4 puntos en las tarjetas, es decir que desde el primer round Juan Manuel Marquez ya estaba encaminado a perder a pesar de tener otros 11 rounds más que pelear. Marquez tenía que hacer la pelea perfecta a partir del segundo asalto para poder recuperar todos esos puntos perdidos. Y después de 11 rounds más, los jueces dictaron el resultado de la pelea como un empate. Marquez resurgio y sorprendio al joven prospecto para arrebatarle una victoria que aprecia ser segura. Muchos pensaron que Pacquiao debió haber ganado la pelea, otros estuvieron de acuerdo con el empate, pero el punto es que un empate significaba que tenía que haber una revancha. Pero después de esa primera pelea Pacquiao siguió enfrentado a puros monstruos.Se enfrento a Erik EL Terrible Morales en 2 ocasiones, perdió la primer pelea pero en la segunda noqueo al mexicnao, volvió a vencer a Barrera, noqueo al invicto Jorge Solis, etc ,etc. Entonces la segunda pelea entre Marquez y Pacquiao no sucedió sino hasta el 2008. Esta vez un Manny Pacquiao de 29 que parecía estar en el apogeo de su carrera se enfrentaría a un Marquez de 34 años que seguía estando entre los mejores del mundo. Después de ver como un Pacquiao joven tumbo 3 veces a Marquez, todo el mundo esperaba que esta ocasión el filipino dominara de principio a fin, debido a que Pacquiao tendría mucha más experiencia y fuerza que en el primer combate, pero la realidad fue distinta. La pelea fue pareja en todo momento, sin embargo Pacquiao logró enviar a Marquez al suelo otra vez en el tercer round del combate, punto que fue determinante en las tarjetas de los jueces ya que el resultado de esta segunda pelea fue una decisión dividida a favor de Manny Pacquiao. Los aficionados exigian una trilogía y por fin en noviembre del 2011 sucedió. Pacquaio de 32 años, Marquez de 38. Si Pacquiao era el favorito en la segunda pelea ahora lo era aún más en este tercer combate, debido a la edad de Marquez. A sus 38 años nadie pensaba que podía seguir dándole tanta pelea al ya establecido y probado monstruo filipino que para ese entonces ya era considerado un futuro salón de la fama. Muchos pensarían que la tercera fue la vencida y Márquez simplemente no pudo con Pacquiao. Tuvo 3 oportunidades y no lo logro. Pero Las 3 peleas habían sido tan cerradas y muchísimos aficionados habían pensado que Marquez había ganado la tercera pelea, por lo que presionaron a Pacquiao a aceptar un cuarto combate Ya habíamos mencionado que las trilogías en el boxeo son algo especial, pero son aún menos comunes las rivalidades que terminan en 4 peleas. Estamos hablando de rivalidades legendarias como Sugar Ray Robinson contra Jake LaMotta. Y la verdad es que estos ajustes se vieron reflejados rápidamente en el combate. En el tercer round del combate Juan Manuel Marquez tumbó a Manny Pacquiao. La primera vez en 4 peleas que el mexicano había enviado a la leyenda al suelo. Este knockdown emocionó al público mexicano, sin embargo, en el quinto asalto Manny Pacquiao le regresó el favor a Márquez y lo envió al suelo por primera vez en esta cuarta pelea pero por quinta vez a lo largo de los 4 combates. La pelea era cerrada pero los analistas aprecian estar dándole la ventaja a Pacquiao por uno o dos rounds. Y sexto asalto aprecia estar yendo para Pacquiao también, es decir que Marquez estaba teniendo problemas. Pero en el último segundo de este sexto round, Juan Manuel marquez conectó un golpe de contraataque que había estado practicando especialmente para utilizarlo en contra de Pacquiao. Ese golpe llegó en el momento perfecto, a la velocidad perfecta, con el poder indicado y en el lugar correcto para poder noquear a la leyenda filipina Manny Pacquiao.
