Ikan haruan atau nama sainstifik ChannaStriata adalah satu spesis yang masih banyak di pedalaman kawasan kawasan parit atau paya terbiar. Kebanyakkan pemancing disini menggunakan cara atau kaedah tajur dan casting untuk mendapatkan spesis ini.Ikan ini berwarna hijau kehijaun kelabu dan bergantung pada air. Ditempat kami ikan ini berwarna agak gelap kerana 90% kwsn tanah gambug. Selain itu ikan ini juga diperlukan sbg perubatan untuk wanita yg lepas bersalin, dan juga pada sesiapa yang baru sahaja membuat pembedahan. Di Malaysia, sudah sejak dulu berkembang kepercayaan bahwa haruan mengandung ubat penyembuh luka dan amat mujarab untuk permulihan kesihatan luka bagi ibu selepas bersalin, cedera dalam kemalangan,pembedahan atau apabila mendapat luka. Kalau berlaku insiden insiden seperti itu barulah orang mencari haruan, itu sahajakah khasiat haruan ini ? Sebenarnya khasiat ikan haruan adalah lebih banyak daripada itu. Unsur yang terbanyak pada haruan ialah kaya dengan kandungan "asid amino" nya. Asid amino ialah makanan kepada sel sel tubuh(DNA), asid amino kepada tubuh manusia umpama simen dan batu batu dalam pembinaan bangunan,jika sel- sel sihat maka sihatlah seluruh anggota tubuh Kajian juga membuktikan ekstrak ikan haruan mengandungi Asid Amino yang berupaya untuk mengelakkan Ulser dan Kalogen yang dapat membantu mencantikan kulit dan agen anti kedut. Khasiat haruan yang memang mengandung semua asam amino esensial dan asam lemak unik yang mampu mempercepat penyembuhan luka. Untuk memanfaatkan ikan haruan sebagai ubat, ikan haruan diambil ekstraknya dengan mengukusnya, lalu menampung airnya. Air ekstrak itu langsung diminumkan ke pesakit yang baru dioperasi Dengan cara itu, luka akan sembuh dalam tempoh tiga hari lebih cepat dibandingkan dengan serum albumin. Ikan Haruan ialah sejenis ikan air tawar jenis karnivor. Ia merupakan spesies asli hutan hujan tropika boleh hidup dalam air payau dan biasa didapati di negara-negara rantau Asia Tenggara. Ia terbahagi kepada dua jenis iaitu bersaiz besar dinamakan Ikan Toman (Channa melanostoma) dan yang kecil ikan haruan (Channa striatus). Terdapat 30 spesies ikan haruan di dunia dengan lapan jenis terdapat di Sarawak, dua di Sabah dan empat di Semenanjung Malaysia. Ikan Toman, Bujuk dan Haruan adalah dalam satu keluarga tetapi berlainan spesies. Ikan Haruan dewasa menunjukkan perlakuan monogami selain mempunyai daya penguasaan wilayah yang cukup kukuh. Ikan Haruan boleh hidup dalam air yang bertakung, bergerak perlahan, cetek dan berlumpur. Bagaimanapun, kebiasaannya Haruan boleh didapati di kolam, sungai, tasik, terusan pertanian, sawah dan muara sungai. Berat kebiasaannya ikan Haruan hanyalah sekitar satu kilogram. Ikan haruan boleh hidup dalam air yang bertakung, bergerak perlahan, cetek dan berlumpur.Bagaimanapun, kebiasaannya haruan boleh didapati di kolam, sungai, tasik, terusan pertanian, sawah. haruan mempunyai asam amino dan lemak yang dapat menyembuhkan luka dalam perut serta amat baik untuk mengobati penyakit gastrik. Syaratnya, haruan tersebut harus haruan liar dan bukan haruan yang dibudidayakan. keunikan haruan ialah ia menunjukkan perlakuan monogami selain mempunyai daya penguasaan wilayah yang cukup kukuh. Prof Abdul Manan berkata beliau memulakan penyelidikan ke atas ikan haruan pada 1985 dan ketika itu beliau terkejut apabila mendapat tahu ikan itu tidak dimasukkan dalam senarai ikan utama Jabatan Perikanan. "Apa yang saya dapati daripada penyelidikan itu ialah ikan haruan merupakan satu sumber protein yang baik, kira-kira 60-70 peratus. Ia mengandungi lemak yang rendah, hanya kira-kira 20 peratus daripada beratnya berbanding dengan ikan air tawar lain serta daging, kambing, ayam dan makanan laut," katanya. Haruan mengandungi sejumlah besar Vitamin A. Manakala kehadiran logam berat seperti kalsium, magnesium, tembaga, besi, mangan, nikel, plumbum dan zink adalah lebih rendah daripada paras toksik yang dibenarkan untuk badan manusia. kandungan asid arakidonik yang tinggi, yang dianggap luar biasa, dan dengan ketiadaan eikosapentaenoikasid dalam haruan adalah satu hasil penemuan yang amat menarik. "Asid Arakidonik adalah petanda bagi prostaglandin. Ia memulakan proses darah menjadi beku dan bertanggungjawab untuk pertumbuhan semula," katanya. Haruan juga mengandungi asid amino yang penting untuk menyembuhkan luka terutama glisin yang merupakan satu daripada komponen penting kolagen dalam kulit manusia. Glisin merangkumi asid aspartik dan glutamik akan membentuk molikul protein yang penting untuk pertumbuhan semula dan penyembuhan. "Oleh itu, ikan haruan mengandungi semua keperluan asas biokimia untuk penyembuhan luka,.
