HIGHLIGHTS | Liverpool vs Arsenal (0-0) | Carabao Cup
HIGHLIGHTS | Liverpool vs Arsenal (0-0) | Carabao Cup

We delivered a display of incredible heart and character to secure a goalless draw in the first leg of our Carabao Cup semi-final with Liverpool despite playing with 10 men for more than 67 minutes at Anfield. With Granit Xhaka sent off midway through the first half for a tackle on Diogo Jota, we stood firm, dug in and showed a steely resolve to frustrate the home side. Such a performance delighted Mikel Arteta and his staff, and means it will be winner-takes-all in the second leg at Emirates Stadium next week. With Martin Odegaard, Emile Smith Rowe and Takehiro Tomiyasu all ruled out of this match, numbers were tight and we had to name a young bench. The hosts, who were almost at full strength apart from those away on Africa Cup of Nations duty, made a fast start and Aaron Ramsdale had to be alert to deal with a teasing Andy Robertson cross. We soon lost Cedric to injury to further disrupt Arteta’s plans, and not long afterwards Roberto Firmino looked certain to score when he met another cross from the left only for Ben White to clear off the line. We were up against it, and the task suddenly became even greater when Xhaka was sent off for taking out Diogo Jota as the last man in the 23rd minute. Arteta reacted immediately by taking off Eddie Nketiah and bringing on Rob Holding and switching to a back three in an effort to stifle the home attack, and it had the desired effect for the rest of the first half. Immediately after the restart, Takumi Minamino came close with a cross that nearly flew into the top corner as the hosts laid siege to our goal. But for all their dominance, we stood firm – getting men behind the ball, defending as though our lives depended on it and, led by the superb Bukayo Saka, proving a threat on the break. Anfield was getting increasingly restless as we entered the final 20 minutes, and with Arteta and his staff willing the team on animatedly from the touchline, we were growing in confidence. We then carved out a big chance as Kieran Tierney rampaged forward, and his cross was touched on by Saka in the area before taking a shot that Alisson saved. It was tight and tense, but in the last minute Liverpool were presented with a huge chance when Ramsdale’s punch came to Minamino in the box, but with an open goal he flashed his shot over the bar. Despite some late pressure, we stood firm to hold out for what felt like a huge draw considering the circumstances. What a display of character. #arsenal #saka #ramsdale Enjoy match highlights, training and behind the scenes to get closer to the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Vivianne Miedema, Nicolas Pepe, Alexandre Lacazette, Leah Williamson, Bernd Leno, Emile Smith Rowe, Nikita Parris, Tobin Heath, Mana Iwabuchi, Jordan Nobbs, Bukayo Saka, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Kim Little, Gabriel Martinelli, Aaron Ramsdale, Beth Mead, Ben White, Thomas Partey and more. HIGHLIGHTS | Arsenal vs Sunderland (5-1) | Carabao Cup | Nketiah (3), Pepe, Patino
HIGHLIGHTS | Arsenal vs Sunderland (5-1) | Carabao Cup | Nketiah (3), Pepe, Patino

Eddie Nketiah scored his first senior hat-trick and Charlie Patino scored on his debut as we sealed our place in the Carabao Cup semi-finals with a comprehensive victory against Sunderland. We came into the match in fine form in the competition, having scored 11 times without concession – and Mikel Arteta picked a mix of youth and experience in his line up. While much of the pre-match talk centred around the inclusion of 18-year-old Charlie Patino in the matchday squad for the first time, the starting XI had a job to do and they set about it instantly. Within five minutes Nketiah had headed a fine Cedric cross over the bar, and it set a theme as we focused many of our attacks down that flank. Our Portuguese right back soon found Flo Balogun at the back post with another accurate delivery, but the striker headed wide – and then saw a low shot saved moments later. Cedric continued to get forward at will into dangerous areas – and he played a key role in our opener, sending in a fine corner that Rob Holding directed towards goal, and while the header was saved, Nketiah was there to force it over the line. We doubled our advantage not long afterwards, Cedric combining with Nicolas Pepe on the overlaps before cutting the ball back to the Ivorian forward in the area, and his shot flew into the roof of the net. It was a fine way for Pepe to mark his 100th game in our colours. It was plain sailing at this point, but Sunderland got themselves back into the game with a well-worked move that saw Nathan Broadhead race in behind our defence and beat Bernd Leno. Our goalkeeper had to be alert a few minutes later to push a goalbound effort from Carl Winchester around the post, and while Emile Smith Rowe went close at the other end there was no further troubling of the scoresheet before the interval. But just four minutes into the second half we extended our advantage again as Nuno Tavares got into space down the left and delivered a fine cross to the near post, for Nketiah to finish confidently for his second of the night. The visitors continued to come forward and came close with a curling effort from Elliot Embleton that struck the outside of the post. Nketah completed his hat-trick in fine style, backheeling home after superb work from Martin Odegaard and Nicolas Pepe. Patino came on to warm applause as the 886th player to represent the club with 10 minutes remaining, and claimed a fairytale debut goal in injury time as he poked home Pepe’s cross. It was a fantastic moment, but the night belonged to Nketiah who walked off with the match ball having sealed our place in the semi-finals. #arsenal #nketiah #patino Enjoy match highlights, training and behind the scenes to get closer to the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Vivianne Miedema, Nicolas Pepe, Alexandre Lacazette, Leah Williamson, Bernd Leno, Emile Smith Rowe, Nikita Parris, Tobin Heath, Mana Iwabuchi, Jordan Nobbs, Bukayo Saka, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Kim Little, Gabriel Martinelli, Aaron Ramsdale, Beth Mead, Ben White, Thomas Partey and more. HIGHLIGHTS | Leicester vs Arsenal (0-2) | Premier League | Ramsdale masterclass at the King Power
HIGHLIGHTS | Leicester vs Arsenal (0-2) | Premier League | Ramsdale masterclass at the King Power

We booked our place in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup after second half goals from Calum Chambers and Eddie Nketiah saw off the challenge of Leeds. Coming into the game off the back of a hugely-encouraging win against Aston Villa and ahead of a tricky clash at Leicester this weekend, it was no surprise to see Mikel Arteta shuffle his pack. There were nine changes to the team, with just Ben White and Emile Smith Rowe retaining their places – but most of the attention was focused on the bench, where Salah Oulad M'Hand was included for the first time. We made much of the early running in a tightly-contested first half, with Eddie Nketiah dragging a shot wide and Sead Kolasinac’s effort from a tight angle saved. But Leeds posed a real threat on the break, and had a clear sight of goal when Diego Llorente played a pinpoint ball over the back of our defence for Dan James to race in to, but Bernd Leno saved his shot. Our German goalkeeper then made an outstanding save to deny Jack Harrison, after the Leeds man took aim with a fierce shot at the back post, before Smith Rowe flashed one over at the other end. That was it for the first half, but after the interval we took the lead when Chambers – on for the injured Ben White seconds earlier – headed the ball over the line, and after a long pause, the goalline technology awarded it. We doubled our advantage when Nketiah – up against his former loan club – took advantage of an underhit headed backpass by racing on to it, lifting the ball past Illan Meslier and rolling it in for our second of the night. It was the striker’s seventh goal in eight Carabao Cup matches – for both us and Leeds. There was still time for Alex Lacazette to rob Kalvin Phillips and race through, but he blasted his shot over – but it mattered not, our place in the quarter-finals was secure. #arsenal #gabriel #ramsdale Enjoy match highlights, training and behind the scenes to get closer to the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Vivianne Miedema, Nicolas Pepe, Alexandre Lacazette, Leah Williamson, Bernd Leno, Emile Smith Rowe, Nikita Parris, Tobin Heath, Mana Iwabuchi, Jordan Nobbs, Bukayo Saka, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Kim Little, Gabriel Martinelli, Aaron Ramsdale, Beth Mead, Ben White, Thomas Partey and more.
